DERO seems like an interesting new concept, but I too understand "cryptonote protocol for privacy"

Hey CaptD,

I was wondering what sort of capabilities having smart contracts with a monero code can enable?  Not a hostile question, just honestly curious as to what is possible to accomplish with that combination which would be different to what can be done with smart contracts on a non-privacy coin.

Thanks

Welcome danspasiva,
There are no capabilities of smart contracts which can be enabled in monero/cryptonote code.
So we are re-writing the cryptonote core required for privacy and ring signatures. DERO will be complete new blockchain.

To answer your Q- "what is possible to accomplish with that combination which would be different to what can be done with smart contracts on a non-privacy coin"
Take an example: You design a smart contract and integrate to access/authorize a building/open a door or any other service like asset-management/tickets based on smart contract.
Many would not like like to share/view details of all other users/customers who used/participated/access  that contract/service.
I hope you too would like transparency in contract details but would not like to share/disclose your details to rest of the world.

More details would be added later.

Thank you.

New Community Pool: Fixed Difficulty, SSL Ports

- Website: https://dero.nitropools.com
- Pool fee: 1%
- Optional SSL mining ports
- Vardiff or fixed difficulty - your choice. For fixed difficulty simply append your requested difficulty level to your wallet address with a period e.g. walletaddress.difficulty  Do not set this too low for your hardware and spam the pool, you will be blocked. A good rule of thumb is speed in H/s x 20 at an absolute minimum.

Pool is running nice and fast on a dedicated 12 physical core dual Xeon server with SSD drives. Come join the party!

Finally !! someone had made it!! Fixed Diff .. Cool man....!! Will join your pool soon..

Sounds like we still have natural Monero alike Ring CT privacy coin with an add-on smart contract feature on a completely new blockchain? This would be a game changer if the Dev can archive that. I always (only) believe in Crypto Night coin. A pre-mined coins are good enough since the Devs will commit a long term development to the coins. Have a few but will try to get more. Good luck!

Thank you for your informative answer dev, that actually painted a nice clear picture in my mind, and I understand the difference!  Makes perfect sense and actually would be very useful in many scenarios i can think of now

what does DERO stand for?

DERO brings different meaning to everyone.
Personally,  DERO is like when you are overseas and  there is waiting time to go home.
Apart from your duty you just dream when you will reach back home to your family and doing what!
For many it's a guiding force.

I dont post much, tend to just lurk. But I had to log in to mention something..

In Australia "Dero" is a negative term, if talking about a person a "Dero" is basically a low-life, a bum or a bogan.
If talking about an item it usually means extremely run down, almost the equivalent of derelict.

To use them in sentences: "Mike is such a god damn Dero, all he does is drink beer and watch TV. I've never once seen him wearing shoes"
"My grandparents house used to look great, now it just looks dero"

Sorry for the negative/blunt comment I just thought I should mention it (chances are someone already has and I missed it)
To counter the negativity I feel I should say that I love the concept of this coin, all the inherent privacy of a cryptonight coin but with the potential functionality of ETH. Genuinely wish you all the best for this one, I hope to mine it at some point soon (waiting on cards to arrive)

-edit-
Now I want to see an Australian Coin called BoganBucks
-double edit-

In another coin
Sub pool of cryptonote was stealing hash.
I see it frequently recently.
I think that it is difficult to collect miners unless they show achievements.
There may be other plans than that.
They seemed like some groups.

Please be careful.

If they manage to bring smart contracts to cryptonote based coin, this will be somesthing really new and fresh, not just a monero fork like other coins.

So still cheap, will go pretty high cos of a low supply Wink

DERO does not ICO only to work on POW mining, all the miners have worked hard to dig out, not cheap and easy to sell, haha. Countless history tells us to take the chips for a long time to become a winner in life!
