Canaan's intention is to get as many miners spread across the globe as possible to build on the decentralization of the network, that is ours as well, we do not want to prioritize any "large buyer"  no matter what they try to offer us in terms of personal bribes.  We would rather see one of these in 100 peoples garages, than 100 in a data center somewhere or being resold on the market.

We will have a few tweaks to the checkout process for the next time around, but mainly issue was just sold out too fast, site said still in stock when they were not due to a few hung up orders that buyers were having payment issues, so technically it was sold out, just didnt relay that it was fast enough as people were still checking out.

We obviously could have raised the price much higher and slowed sales down, but in the end that is not the best for the community as a whole.

As frustrating as it is to lose out on an F5 fight, and as much as everyone things they have a perfect solution (which  they don’t) one thing is for sure: Blokforge stayed true to and delivered on their mission to decentralize even though it would have been much easier and more profitable for them to sell to 1 or 2 high rollers. Thanks for  giving us little guys a chance, Blokforge! Please know that in spite of all the complaints and whining, tthe silent majority is grateful and looking forward to another F5 fight for the 821 in January!

A+ for Blokforge, taking a slightly bad situation and explaining it in a way that people can understand they did the best they could have at the time.

High traffic when sale started should have been EXPECTED - look at the typical Bitmain site overload before they started FORCING folks to use their BCH crapcoin to pay with.

Limit to 1 per person - on as small of a batch as this one turned out to be, I think that made sense - though it can be worked around, doing so isn't easy or simple when the site gets overloaded - it's STILL a crapshoot to get anything at all.

The core issue was HOW TINY this particular batch was.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

BlokForge did this the right way and I don't feel they have anything to apologize for. I'm not saying this because I was one of the lucky ones. I'm saying it because it was the most fair way to do it and all the suggestions being bounced around would have caused things to go the same or worse.

(Warn people that you expect high traffic when the sale starts) - Assuming BF knew that their website would be suddenly slammed with thousands of would-be buyers, what purpose does warning everyone about it serve? The end result is the same and we all knew that everyone was going to be on there trying to order anyways.

(Advise How Many Units are available) - What is gained by knowing how many units they have available? If you knew there were less than 100, what would you have done differently? Scarcity breeds more interest, not less.

(Limit to 1 per person) - I like that they set a limit. I can't say I like it being as low as one miner, though. A more appropriate method of limiting order sizes would be to related it to the total number of miners available. If there are few to go around, then make an appropriate limit. Consider also that BF creates more work for themselves because the smaller limit increases the number of orders to ship, payments to handle/receive, and increases the number of potential shipping issues.

THANK YOU FOR THE LIMIT, BLOKFORGE! Seriously. That really helps those of us that do not have tens of thousands of dollars to throw around or the ability to write a script to automatically order dozens of units as soon as they're available).

(Don't let miners be added to the cart if there are none left) - I believe the issue here was that people were in the process of buying the same miners you were able to add to your cart. There is no way around this except that you can remove any units in someone's cart from the available inventory. That is a bad idea because of the high-traffic issues and people constantly hitting F5, which can increase the number units they end up adding to their cart. That is alleviated somewhat with the order limit, but I've only ever had negative experiences with websites that do this.

(Make a Lottery/Queue System) - I think the lottery and the queue are both not-great ideas. There will be rumors that BlokForge is picking friends or family or that they're not randomizing the selection in the correct way. I've never known any other seller (in any private industry/business) to do something similar. And you're not thinking about just how many people would be in that lottery...

For the most part, all of us were on equal footing tonight. All of us were frantically trying to F5 our way to the "Submit Order" screen. And you were only competing with those that were actually online and trying to get the order. If there was a lottery/queue, then just think about how many people would just be adding themselves to the list. Now you're competing against 5,000 or 10,000... They already limited it to 2 per customer, which created a better chance than any of us has ever had trying to catch an order through Canaan.io directly.

I'm not trying to pander, but I honestly don't know how anyone could have expected BlokForge to handle that better. Honestly, I'm surprised their website didn't completely crash, since I doubt the servers were set-up for that much traffic. We are in a new world of BTC Mining. Even if you didn't get any tonight, you at least had a chance.

I agree to much of this, and Blokforge probably did the best they could with what they have. Buy limits based on batch size would be great.

I differ on the points about and traffic and inventory announcements. Not everyone is in a frenzy to get a miner. Knowing that there is little chance of getting on to a website, then buying one of the few miners, might sober some people up. They might not try/save their money for next time/try a different store etc (which could lessen the web traffic).

There are a lot of people who are in a bitcoin frenzy. There are also people who approach this realistically, not to get rich quick or be part of the latest trend, and would simply like to get into mining on a small scale (because they believe in bitcoin).

So I'm not saying that Blokforge should give dire warnings about impending stampedes before sales, just there are people who would weigh that information before madly smashing "refresh" on their browser for ten minutes Smiley. I did that  (it didn't keep adding units to my cart), but not out of a frenzy, rather feeling a bit frustrated. Like, is there a chance for the little guy in mining or do you need to have enough money to buy a pallet? I don't need a pallet, I'd be happy with one or two.

As it is I may save for an A8 or see what else is out there. Demand may still be high but maybe the stampede will thin out because people realize they won't get rich quick/mining isn't so easy with set ups and power supplies/etc.

I know that whatever Blokforge and the other distributors announce, I'll be going into the A8 buy soberly. If I get one I get one, it's better to see them go to other individual miners than farms though.

For the upcoming 821 sale, there is only one true way to make it fair.  And that is to let me buy as many as I want (around 4 to 5 at expected prices) FIRST, then the rest of you can have whatever is left over.

Blokforge, I commend you for having the ethics and personal fortitude to not take my bribe offers to get me a few 741s ahead of time.  Having said that, there is a time for ethics and a time to make money.  If someone offered me $500 for first shot at buying, I'd have made that decision faster than a computer!

Depending on how many 821s come in, maybe a limit of 2 should be a limit of 1.  I'd rather get 1 miner than none because everyone who F5'd a split second faster than me bought 8 each.

Emails with Canaan and other sources tell me a "small amount" of 821s will be available in late January.  I wonder whose definition of "small amount" that is.

And I don't think that the influx of new miners will have the same effect on difficulty, now that Bitcoin Cash is more profitable to mine than Bitcoin.  Screw securing the network, I am here to MAKE MONEY!!!  Whichever coin is more profitable is the network I am securing!

In the meantime until the next sale, I'll be working the price of bitcoin in my trading account, turning my money into more money.

And some jackhole from here immediately listed his 2 newly bought 741's on ebay last night, for an initial price of $4200 EACH, instead of using them to mine with like I will.

We will try something a bit diff on the A8 first batch.....

First 10 we will announce the sale date and time on forum, and post link on the forum.  Rest will go as the last batch did.  It will be a very small batch again, less than 100.

Possibly a higher price with rebate for a thought out product review, not much, but something to make worth someones time to do it.  Resellers will not usually have means to do a review for the rebate, miners will.

Possibly a lotto for one unit, the first unit, possibly PM us numbers 1-100, pick number on livestream.

We will decide final path in about a week.

Agreed, thank you. It can't be easy to work with small batches and high demand (and demanding customers) but the effort is greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that you are doing this.

Will we know ahead of time when the rest of the machines will be for sale on your website? If so, by what means will you communicate it to us?

Ha! Is there not a whole lot of marketing work that has to be done these days? I guess not when demand outpaces supply more than 10x. What a problem to have...

It's very refreshing to see this level of customer support from Canaan, and their distributors.
I like the idea of putting a cap on the quantities, giving us smaller buyers a decent chance
at actually buying products. Especially, when most of us actually have intentions of using
the product, and not just "flipping" them to make a buck.

I can't wait to see the great things coming out in the upcoming year, and I'm sure Canaan
will not disappoint. Looking forward to these releases!
