It is an ideal and sensible question to ask why we have government in our society. Government is purely an institution constituted to serve the masses and therefore should be free from all forms of personal, financial and political gains for those at the helm of affairs. From all sense of it government has many roles to play in the lives of the citizens. It is the responsibility of government to provide her citizens with quality education, better housing and loan scheme through a financial institution. Above all government should be keen in providing an enabling environment for the citizens who voted them into power to establish and do business.
Totally agree. As far as I remember, in ancient Greece, for instance, people were appointed government positions as a form of service - you gain no personal benefit, but your work is to serve society. It was their duty, their responsibility - now politicians work mainly to maintain their own welfare, only pursuing people`s interests when the election is near.
I wonder what`ll happen if this consept is brought back to life, at least as an experiment - we might see some very interesting results.
