I was a serious skeptic and I came here to be a smartass last night but someone in this thread explained the m-pesa rumors to me and I bought 100k. I've done a lot of work in developing countries and I absolutely believe that integrating crypto into worker remittances and transfers in the developing world would be THE killer app for digital currency. But it's been 24 hours already and the suspense is killing me. Is this happening or isn't it?

I do have nagging doubts though. M-pesa could pretty much dictate the terms of any deal, so what they would want is the key, and I can't exactly figure that out. Why link up with an existing coin instead of simply paying a developer to create a Vodafone or m-pesa branded coin? It seems like that would meet their needs as well or better than simply adopting zeta as a medium of exchange. Maybe this reduces risk of storing value for them - their model would be simply charging for exchange and transfer fees, but crypto removes their costs for banking and securing the money? I dont know. I'd be interested to hear what people think about that. But basically, I'm prepared to set that aside and hold while we all wait find out.

If nothing was mentioned leading up to this news and all of a sudden the biggest secret was released to the press, you'd all cry that you didn't have time to buy when it was cheap. When you get a little teaser as a hint that you should be accumulating ZET, you cry that the news is never coming.

Actually, I think this link from Googling "mpesa security" begins to answer my question. It looks like the administrative costs, customer service issues, and liability for funds, is indeed a major headache for mobile operators. Perhaps crypto simply let's them continue to rake in usage fees while offloading liability and management costs - let's them reap the fees while retaining focus on their core business.

Still, they have a system that is working, although apparently not always smoothly. I would guess any zetacoin integration would be on some kind limited, pilot basis initially. But I agree the details and practical challenges of actually doing this would no doubt be momentous, and it won't happen overnight.
