I heard there was a recent hack with the DNS of some users being redirected from MyEtherWallet's website to one that looked identical but was on an insecure host.  https://cointelegraph.com/news/myetherwallet-warns-that-a-couple-of-its-dns-servers-have-been-hacked

Looks like $150k was stolen.

If you have your private keys with you then no one can hacked myether wallet. Most important thing is keep your private key in a safe place and never tell your private keys or password to anyone. If it is in a safe place no one can hack your wallet but always try to log via UTC/JSON instead of private keys. Further do not go and click phishing sites as well and it is advisable to use hardware wallet. It could help to prevent hacking and hope this will helpful for you.

Hi, i have backupped my pvkeys on an usb stick. I wrote it also down on a piece of paper. My computer broke. I put a metal pin through the harddrives. I will not buy a new pc soon. So i wont check in on myetherwallet for some time. I cant click on phishing links. My question is : are my funds safe? Can myetherwallet get hacked? Can my funds dissapear even when i have no computer, hid my keys? Im to stupid to work with a ledger or trezor. Can something happen to it like with the parity/kill?

Yes, because it is a website wallet and hackers can get your data through DNS you are using. Your funds is safe when you are using metamask because it is encrypted on a extension of chrome on a desktop. Your funds cannot easily disappeared because you have the private keys and don't access your wallet using your private keys on myetherwallet.

I think that hacking without the fault of the owner of the wallet is impossible. At least no one says that he was hacked, but on the contrary, they say that he was hacked, after he moved to a fake site MEW. It's big difference.

I guess the security system of myetherwallet is not really secured. If you noticed when you make a wallet on their site there is a pop up message that contains reminders of not being safe.Because I have a co-worker here who's tokens in myetherwallet get hacked. He don't have any idea how did it hapened. And that token now is worth of 2k USD all.

It depends on how strong your awareness of prevention is. If you casually browse websites that you don't know, you accidentally put your myetherwallet private key on some phishing websites, then whatever wallet is insecure, because you lack The basic anti-hacking consciousness, if you are usually very cautious, then I think myetherwallet is absolutely safe.

Yes, security related wallet mostly will rely on our own treat. Our own behaviour will established on how secure is our wallet. As I see, most people who got hacked mostly because their own fault.

Of course, every system can be hacked. But when it comes to such big projects there's definitely smaller chance. Make sure not to tell anyone your private key and 2nd key and of course do not lose it.

Yes of course because no matter how secured a system can be, but if you are careless, then you will still become a victim of hackers. You have to be vigilant at all times and never trust to someone whom you just acquainted in the internet or whom a person you don't personally know.

probably MEW itself its ok and safe enough, but the main problem is that most of people access it from the web

which is not super safe as we seen in the last recent attack a couple of weeks

I wouldn’t trust to use MEW now and moved over Trustwallet which is way more safe

Well, everything can be hacked anywhere and any time. As long as you don't lose your private keys, you should not worry to get hacked. Most wallets are very safe, and always safe your private keys on a different device other than the one you use your wallet.  Wink Cheesy

MEW can not guarantee someone not to get phishing and back up user data if actively exposed, this wallet is not centralized so the security ratio is not greater than the attack rate encountered. Hardwallet is an erc-20 alternative which is quite good and coinbase is also seen starting to provide a place for erc-20.

Yes, there is a possibility to get hacked ETH wallet. Since there is a private key to secure your wallet you have to keep it private and do not disclose to anyone and use only a trusted sites and make sure to close or log out in public computers or gadgets.

I think MEW hacked for the owner's own carelessness, to avoid it's all a good idea to backup your wallet and separate it between wallet and private key using notepad (this I get from one of the bitcointalk members, forgot its name). may be useful

It cannot be hack since there is no access for your PC or USB stick thru Internet. Just make sure that your USB stick is a good one that can stand thru time because there are some USB drive that gets corrupted after it stores in a long period of time.

Even your private keys was not stolen or been hacked mew site was hackable, think that its only a system and no system is safe last month mew wallet got hack and all access directly goes to a phishing mew site. Don't be confident with that better to buy a hardwallet for much added security for your tokens.

Well it recently just got hacked... Grin

But it's more likely that your own computer might get hacked (phishing, keylogger, etc.) and through that, they might access your wallet. So, I'd recommend investing in a hardware wallet if you want to stay safe from the hacks.

I think Myetherwallet is the very secure wallet. And it is very difficult due to the private key. As you seen that in private keys totally 64 character including numbers.so i think it's impossible to hack the myetherwallet. But if you share your private keys with any other person then he/she can access you account and they can also withdraw your money.so i suggest you to never share your private key with any person.
