UPDATE: This contest is now closed, please do not submit any more designs. Thank you.

What you will receive:
- 5 BTC
- 1 free physical coin with your design on it
- design credits on our website cryptovest.com (launching soon)
- the product will be named after you Smiley

What I want:
Think outside the box and don't be afraid to be creative. If you want feedback from me in a private setting so that your design is more likely to be selected, please email your design to sales@cryptovest.com for critique.

What needs to be submitted to qualify?
1. Black and white picture of the front and back of the coin (no shading or color)
2. A two toned hologram design
3. A two toned hologram design with a window for the firsbits of factory loaded coins:
4. A rendering of the coin front and back with the hologoram (no window):

What are the requirements of the design?
- All artwork shown in black will be raised on the coin. Half tones and shading cannot be reproduced on a coin and should be eliminated.
- Vector file formats are preferred, all other images should be 300 DPI or more.
The correct dimensions are:
- The coin should be 39mm in diameter. (1.53543 inches)
- The back side of the coin must have a 1 inch diameter "donut" so that when the coin insert is placed on the coin and the hologram over it, there is no bulge.
- The inner part of the "donut" (where the coin insert will go) should be 12.7mm (0.5 inches)
- The outer part of the "donut" (where the hologram will go over) should be 25.4mm (1 inch)
- The hologram should be circular and 24.13mm (.95 inch) in diameter.
- Integrate our company name "CryptoVest" somewhere in the design.
- The denomination of the coin should be 1 BTC

Let me know if you have any questions. Please excuse the Litecoin images... I would have used Bitcoin images, but the physical Litecoin is is the only product that we actually have designs for and are currently manufacturing.

Thank you,

Ch

I kept this in a similar style to your physical Litecoins. I didn't notice the mistake that created a few thin white lines in the back of the coin until seeing it on a dark background right now, but I can easily fix that. If you're interested in my design, I can make a 3D render for you.

I forgot to add a second tone to the holograms, but that's very easy to do as well.

Thank you everyone for your interest! I'm surprised to see already one quality submission! Very nice Austin, I like it.. simple, yet elegant!  Smiley

I'll be back here with some ideas Smiley Could it be as creative as I want or it has to be creative but keep a traditional coin design?

As creative as you'd like!

Any timeframe/deadline on this?
It will go until I announce a winner. Sorry to be vague, but I don't really want to put a time limit on it. I will likely wait about a week and review the submissions thus far and decide if it should go longer or not.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I didn't have to rush this one... have a couple concepts in my head, just have to actually design them and want to take my time  Grin

It can be anywhere you like. Smiley

Please change the back of the coin though, to adjust for the different hologram placing.

(never claimed to be the best at 3d rendering, but I tried!  Grin   I'd have better success if I could actually get my ai file to import correctly into cinema4d, but my circuits don't come over correctly when saving down to illustrator 8  Undecided)

Thickness of coin?

It doesn't matter. I can make just about any thickness coin.

However, I may not be able to do custom edges when it comes to actually making the coins. Not a lot of manufacturing companies offer this, but I would shop around for one if someone had a good design utilizing the edges.

The site said these would be engraved for security? Is that correct?

I only have a "coming soon" page up on the website now. If you somehow managed to make it in the website, all information is not final, a lot of it is just placeholders and/or the original example text/elements from from the theme I used.

I'm not sure what you mean by "engraved for security."

Oh yes, it doesn't have to do with engraving though.

I am spending the extra money to add more security features to the hologram that other coin's don't have. So, these will be the most counterfeit deterrent holograms for physical cryptocoins currently available. These features will make it easy to confirm for anyone that the holograms on the coins are genuine and not fakes. Notice I say "counterfeit deterrent" and not "counterfeit proof". It is technically impossible to make something that is counterfeit proof, however with added security features you can make it very hard for someone to do.

There will also be cheaper holograms with less security features if you prefer price over security.

Just a bit of advice, you probably should not assume that there are NO security features in my holograms (as well as mike's).  I'll speak for myself and will say there are several on my holograms that I have not made public for obvious reasons.

It is a bit of an overstatement in the bold above to claim that as true without consulting said parties prior to making a statement as such. The part about "most counterfeit deterrent holograms" is pretty bold too.

Just keep this in mind. Thanks.

1. I did not assume that you do not have any security features on your hologram, in fact I assume the opposite. Nor did I say that you do not have any security features on your hologram (or mike's for that matter.)

2. I am going above and beyond and spending a pretty penny on the nicer holograms. I know that saying "my hologram will be the most counterfeit deterrent" is a bold statement. It is for that reason, that I would not say it unless I really believed it to be true. I have a hard time believing you went through the same trouble and expense as I have to add almost every holographic security feature possible to your holograms. Feel free to prove me wrong.

3. This is not the correct thread to ask and discuss details of my company, my products, or even my statements. This is a thread for a competition for a new physical Bitcoin design, and I would prefer it stay that way. If you want to discuss this further, please reply in my main thread (which you double posted this in).

Concerning #3: It wasn't me who initiated the topic of hologram security features in this thread. That was you. I merely commented because you seemed so sure of yourself on your claims and decided to bring "other coins" into your post.

Concerning #2: I have nothing to prove to you. I'm not making the bold claims here. Attempting to prove anything here would only compromise the security features in my holograms defeating the purpose of them.

QUESTION: Not that I doubt you, but how do you know that no other holograms for coins have the security features you are adding into yours? This is perhaps what I was getting at now that you had a chance to clarify your statement. Last I checked you were not in direct contact with the hologram designer for my holograms.

I guess the reason I decided to comment was because you mentioned "other coins" which includes myself.

Looking forward to your answer.

Thanks

You are arguing about something that you or I cannot prove due to it negating the security of the holograms. That is why I said prove it- because you can't... it is somewhat of a moot point. If you want to take me to court for defamation (which is what you're quasi accusing me with)... good luck proving if that is the case or not. I hope you saved your receipts.. you'll have to reveal them in court and reveal to the public the extreme markups you are charging. And when that day comes, we'll see who has the more secure hologram.   Wink

Thanks

 Smiley

I am spending the extra money to add more security features to the hologram that other coin's don't have. So, these will be the most counterfeit deterrent holograms for physical cryptocoins currently available.

Wink

I think I made my point pretty clear without trying to bring the rest of the world into the situation. You made claims you can't backup. The burden of proof is on you given you made the claims. I only questioned them.

Simple as that. Roll Eyes

I can back up the statements Smoothie. However, proving it is dependent upon you suing me for defamation and by trial. Get your lawyer and I'll prove it to you. Until then, simply stfu. What are you going to do? Call the forum police for me making a statement that I honestly believe is true? Wink

You obviously have special interests. You bumped all 4 threads I have on bitcointalk.org and on litecoin forums as well just to quote this conversation and tell the world. I hope you realize it is silly and hope you are proud of yourself. You are obviously trying to harm me and my business, from now on consider yourself ignored. This is a stupid argument and you're making it out to be a huge deal like a 2 year old.

Go ahead, get the last word in. I won't respond...  Roll Eyes

No wonder why that ignore sign is bright orange. I've always tolerated you Smoothie, but now you're just harassing me and I'm done with you.

Waiting for you to back them up.

Of course you are now ignoring me thus negating your ability to prove your claims. Typical.

1. Make a statement you can't backup.

2. Get called out on it.

3. Try to get the questioning party to prove it (even without the burden of proof).

4. Then it is pointed out that the burden lies with you.

5. Claim courts need to come into the picture as well as hit my ignore button because I am "harassing" you.

You win. Your claims are unfounded and unproven. But yet you made them.

Good luck.  Smiley

Whatever.

I wouldn't of said it if I didn't truly believe it. The fact of the matter is, I think if Smoothie could reveal his security measures, then my statement would be proven correct. However, that is not going to happen so it is a moot point. That is why I told him to take me to court for defamation... because that is the only way either of us will reveal all of the security features of our holograms. I'm not trying to be a dick, but it is what it is.

Also I never stated other products are not secure. All I said was my holograms will likely have more security features than theirs. Even the most basic holograms are inherently counterfeit deterrent, the extra features I'm adding is basically overkill. I believe my statement to be true due to the sheer amount of security features I am implementing. Smoothie was in a rush to beat me to market for his coin. I've had months now of talking to companies, getting quotes, and doing research. I feel confident in my statement that my hologram will be more counterfeit deterrent, and I do not take it back because I truly believe it.

The fact of the matter is, I think Smoothie is threatened by me and my company. Possibly he thinks part of his market share could go down.. which is a possibility I don't know. He is also probably angry that I'm not charging the insane Casascius/Lealana mark up... me (and others developing physical coins) are going to highlight how insane of a mark up they are charging. With Smoothie posting here, it is personal for him obviously. So he had to find one little thing to make a big deal about and smear my name about it. I never even mentioned him or Lealana, for all he knew I was talking about Casascius or <insert coin company name here>.

There is quite a bit of assumptions in this above wall of text.

Of course CH has opted to ignore me rather than deal me head on. I wonder why asking a simple question got him so riled up about courts and suing? He made a claim, I called him on it, and he obviously can't prove his claim. Really simple.

One thing I've learned is not to make absolutely bold statements you can't back up with actual proof. This is a prime example of this.

Oh well. Good luck to him.   Smiley

Lol, that is a good idea. I'm all for it.. the more designs the merrier.

I'm going to have to draw the line at 5 BTC though. It is already a little more than I'd like to spend.. I just wanted to entice people to make designs so there would be plenty of options to choose from. Smiley

YAY!  More physical coins.  Smiley  I love it.

If you can accept some friendly advice from someone that does coin designs, minting and manufacturing and has studied numismatics for 40 years, your submission requirements are going to limit the result unnecessarily.  There are a lot of things that are being missed here.  By using a BW -> CADCAM -> CNC input with no gradation in the die-cutting, The end result will be sharp and angular rather than topographically organic, mechanical rather than soothing and friendly.

This is fine for a collectible medallion that is stored in a box or bureau, but sharp things on coins in pockets, purses and wallets tend to cut them and wear on them. The last thing someone wants is a coin that cuts a hole in their pocket and escapes.

There are also many other features that the submission spec prevents.  There are gradations in frosting with everything from mirror finish to a non-reflective frost, edge lettering, dished fields, and also avoids some of the advanced techniques to prevent the tamper-evident hacking displayed at the last DefCon against the Casascius pieces.

The very best coins these days are sculpted and 3d digitized rather than computer derived, though the computer design is a great way to sort through a bunch of ideas.

I look forward to an amazing result in any case, and wish you the best of luck with it.

Thank you NewLiberty for your feedback. I learned a few things.

I agree the designs probably should be submitted in a better format, however that would also limit the number of people that can submit designs. The nicer coins will be made from hand sculpted dies and die struck, so the format of the artwork won't matter too much.

However, I am making a cheaper version that I'm pretty sure the mold was CNCed, so I might see the effects you described. The coins are so small, I am hoping any defects won't be too noticeable. The nicer coins I'm not worried about, they should be really pretty.  Smiley

Thanks again!

That's fine, perhaps I should change the OP to say the minimum quality of file format of artwork submitted should be PSD. Feel free to submit designs in other file formats. I think vector style images in Adobe Illustrator are pretty nice if you know how to use the program. Any design with vector quality format would be ideal and graciously accepted. Smiley

My designs were done entirely from illustrator, all vector based... I used photoshop to add in the window on the hologram though :p

you have gone ahead an CANNED other peoples products that they are "NOT SECURE" on no basis of fact

In all likelihood, with security measures, the later you are, the more opportunity you have to put in additional security measures.

I suspect that there are techniques in development today, Wink that won't be commercially available by the time this is released, but may be available by the time the 2014's come out.

Whether one avails oneself of ALL those new opportunities for defense of tamper-proofing is another matter.  Some but not all of them are in the sticker itself, some require other objects or processes that are not apparent to the folks buying them.  It is hubris to imagine that any of us alone know every possible thing about security, from the type of glue used to the thickness and fragility of the hologram to the means of securing and affixing it...

Arguing among ourselves is less productive to good security than working together.  It might make sense for those of us involved in coin-making to form a private group for improving the state of the art and cooperate a bit more, provided we can "play well with others".  Smiley

The Liberty Dollar's Warehouse Receipts had the most advanced security of its time.  More than any paper currency of any nation at that time.  It had holograms, microprinting, UV fluorescent ink trim, hot gold and silver foil stamping, and an invisible synthetic DNA security thread, and were also a work of artistic beauty 100% backed by bullion.  They were harder to counterfeit than US Fed Reserve Notes and far and away the best paper money in existance, but, if done today, there is more that could be done.  The state-of-the-art is always changing and it takes more than a little work to keep informed of all of the new developments.

Heres the front side of the coin with binary spelled CryptoVest. The back side will be post soon.

Neat, thank you!  Smiley

Well thank you CoinHoarder I appreciate that. I have more versions, be sure to check back to my original post.

Hi mymenace,

I think the binary that spells one bitcoin and is exactly the right size to fit in a complete circle is a neat idea. That is definitely a good start, a nice and simple clean design & binary with meaning. Smiley

I am interested to see what you come up with to fill in the space, possibly it may look best just the way it is. I think some people's designs may be a little cluttered, and I have mostly liked the simpler designs better. On a side note... I am digging the geometric lines on the back of ibminer's coin and 0nlyBTC's 3rd version back of the coin. I think a geometric pattern in coin form would look pretty cool. But I don't want to hold back creativity so please submit whatever YOU think looks good! Smiley

Thank you for submitting a design,

Ch

Thanks CoinHoarder

yeah i have been sitting here looking at the design and like the simplicity as well, at the moment I will leave it as is and submit another design If i add to it.

need to work on the back part which I think will need to be worthy of crypto vest

cheers

My first two attempts Smiley Hope you like them.
First is a more experimental design, the other one is more like a classic design.
The topics for my two designs are the security and the freedom.

Sorry but I dont understand the requierments very well.

http://s16.postimg.org/vm62c0d8l/backclassic_zps4d2dfa23.png

- The coin should be 39mm in diameter. (1.53543 inches)
- The back side of the coin must have a 1 inch diameter "donut" so that when the coin insert is placed on the coin and the hologram over it, there is no bulge. Please see the example above. The inner part of the "donut" (where the coin insert will go) should be 25.4mm (1 inch)
- The hologram should be circular and 12mm (0.472441 inches) in diameter.

WOW....

Thank you for pointing out the dimensions in the OP were wrong.

It seems most people designed everything in the correct dimensions and realized I made a mistake... only one person followed the dimensions in the OP. I have PMed him... sorry LikeHero, that is truly my bad!! Update the OP as well.

With site opening in 2 days I figure you want to pick and post for site opening correct?

Hi,

There are a few designers that haven't turned in their work yet. I would like to give them a chance, if they post it within the next couple days then sure. I think there's enough designs, but I want to give them a chance. Smiley

Also.. the site is launching for our Physical Litecoins. These coins the designs are for are likely a month+ out.

The coin has those 2 hand exchanging binary code( meaning bitcoin in one version and B in the other) to symbolize the flow of digital currency.

I made the "1" resemble the previous coin's "1" to appear as if they belong from the same source.

Sorry for the different sized images shown, the images on the links have all same size.

so Fisgos.  what are you proposing the coins be made of?  the brown color almost implies a hard rubber-like material?  very cool btw.

I intended it to look more or less like gold, my brother also says it turned out to look more like rubber.

I know it's not a democracy, but I really like this design. Sure, some details are not optimum for me, but it's what you asked for: out of the box. Not thrilled with the Star Date, but whatever. The design IDEA is fresh, and exciting.

Mjbmonetarymetals, could you work up a design study with a different planet, (I like Jupiter!), or a different view of Earth, and maybe a series of different spaceships? Orion Drives, Generation Ships, Sails etc? I'd have been tempted to submit my own design, but I didn't have the time to climb the steep learning slope. Anyway, this is YOUR idea. Run with it, please.

OP: I'd be more likely to buy this type of Physical Bitcoin than any others, no insult intended to the many other excellent designs.

This is my submission showing a rough draft of the obverse side only (needs a bit of work still but I figured I'd post it now). There is no reverse face or 3d render yet -- I want to gauge how much interest there would be in this design before committing the hours it will take to complete it.

It is an impression of the wild tansy, a flower that represents resistance, and chose this flower for the front face because sound money is potentially an incredible tool of resistance against many different things. It is inspired by beautiful manhole covers.
[op failed to respond, have withdrawn my submission]

Edit: I found the dots a bit overwhelming, so here is the cleaner version.

Keep in mind that the lines are not perfectly perpendicular, there is some slight trapezoidal shape to them and they are wider at the base.  This is necessary due to the nature of the cutting tip of the CNC die cutters, and it is actually preferable as it slightly reduces the "sharpness" of the coin.  Sharp coins are not good.  Most pockets are made of fabric which can get sliced up by sharp metal, and the last thing you want is your coins cutting holes in the pockets of their owners and escaping.  Wink

What software you used for rendering? Those coins look really badass, I'd like to check what would my proposals look like if rendered properly.

Thanks very much! I imported my vector artwork from Illustrator into Photoshop as smart objects parts, making sure that the vectors were compound shapes with black only. Then I made my own layer style to make a render of the coins.

If your vector artwork is formatted similarly, I could try and send my layer styles to you, and you could check how it looks with your artwork, but it's basically just a gradient, bevel emboss and drop shadow. The antiqued version also uses an outer glow.

It's time to pick a winner for the coin, or multiple winners (specify who is getting 5 btc total) if you are not proceeding.

Bump, because this.

Finished obverse and reverse, with antiqued and non-antiqued versions.

I like how you compare the blockchain and germline (depicted as DNA). As a Biologist I always see a lot of parallels between the two.

You see the double helix comming from the leaf. The Bitcoin is in the middle of the coin. The little things around it which look like stamps are the blocks. The blocks are connected by a chain, therefor I figured its a blockchain. The chain might actally be the merkel tree or whatever ties the blocks together. So the coin is in the middle, secured by the blockchain. The DNA runs around it sybolizing life which emraces bitcoin and the blockchain. At least that is how I interpreted it. Maybe acorn had something totally different in his mind.

Thank you for the interest in my design. I really enjoyed reading your interpretation and it isn't far off from my original intent. It's really up to anyone's interpretation -- but the center helix and the leaf were an abstraction of a wild tansy flower (known in the Language of Flowers as a symbol of resistance and declaration against). The center flower portion also includes a blockchain. I just wanted to combine something living/organic and traditional with something more mechanical and abstract. Living things adapt to keep on living. Bitcoin isn't so different.

I think I'm speaking on behalf of all the participants here, but OP could you please give us an update? Whether or not you have decided to cancel, or need more time to choose, or need more time to get prize money, it would be nice to be kept in the loop as to why you haven't said anything.

If any "runners up" want theirs produced....or enhanced further... we can help with that.  Smiley
Some of these are really pretty good.

The best designs are sculpted and 3d scanned these days.  Coins are 3d not 2d and sharp vertical edges do not give a good feel when held in a hand.  This sharpness can even remove skin.
This scanning can also be done with actual objects.  (like those leaves gracing the left curve of the obverse of acorn's)

Generally sculpting then doing a cast in plaster is best, and then doing a mold, and then carving out the mold, and reversing it... you can go back and forth in this manner until you have it perfected.  There is a qualitative difference that is very difficult to reproduce with only a computer.
Computer only designs tend to be sharp, and it is difficult to get the sort of soft grace and majesty that some of the most famous coin designs are known for.   I am delighted by the amount of quality art that this contest is producing.

The earliest coin designers are among the first artists whose names survive to today.
Most sculptors of that period did not sign their work and other art was more transient and didn't survive.  But some of the earliest coinmakers did mark theirs thousands of years ago.

A winner will be chosen and they will be paid. I will try to get with that designer this weekend so I can start to compare all the designs.

Carlos L,

I did not set a time limit on this contest, so you can call me a scammer all you want, but your accusations are baseless. How about you go bother someone else?

I'm having personal medical issues and just went to the doctor yesterday. I am supposed to receive the blood test results today and find out more about what's going on. How about you have a little respect for that and leave me alone. Quit calling me scammer all over the place, all it makes me want to do is take longer to make my decision to piss you off.

Again, I have not broken any rules of the contest as there was no time limit.

Whatever...

I'm sorry for not being omniscient.

That's right, I can call you a scammer whenever I want. And I'm not alone. Accusing you I mean.
Don't worry, you're not pissing me off, you're pissing of everyone who made a design and don't see any replies from you in weeks though.

I don't have any sock puppet account in this contest, however, I do have my brother.

FWIW
I do wish the contest would have been finalized sooner, but I don't believe CH to be a scammer... I am part of his Avalon group buy and he has been prompt & thorough with every payment from it. If he is a scammer, there is a small, small chance that he could disappear before fully paying out everyone and then keep the remaining mining income for himself, but I would think he would have disappeared by now  Roll Eyes

... IF he were a scammer, I don't see him being this obvious about it. A true scammer in his position probably wouldn't throw away his reputation over a 5BTC design contest.

Sorry to hear about the medical issues CH. I assumed you were delaying to try and get more publicity for CryptoVest... Don't they say 'any publicity is good publicity'?
being called a scammer and getting a scam accusation thread opened up on you might be good publicity once you pay out the 5BTC.  Grin

I'd let Carlos flame me, and then pay out a little more than 5BTC to the winner and offer an apology for the delays... even though there was no time limit.

I am leaving Negative Trust for CoinHoarder as I feel that most don't look at the scammer threads.  He has stated he did not set a timeline but 3 months and price going thru the roof means to me it will be years.  I submited a coin but I had fun designing it though but somebody should have been credited, by now imo.

I will remove Negative trust once I see a transaction in this thread and a submitting person (who posted prior to this post) confirming it,

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=67959

On 10-25-13 he was going to get a hold
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=289668.msg3411767#msg3411767

On 11-7-13 he stated he was having some health problems and was tied up (understandable)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=289668.msg3510190#msg3510190

Since then he has been quite active on the forums here and LTC including introducing his LTC coin that he listed Nov 6th
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=286027.msg3494006#msg3494006
I will not name names, but I estimate some physical cryptocoin retailers are selling their products at a %700-%1000 mark up.

From that post he has realized that the coin business is not all about the design of the coins but trust in Private Keys and selling.  And so giving away free coins that arent loaded are hard to sell and even give away.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=286027.msg3602431#msg3602431

Since Nov. 15th he has been quite active in this forum and others.

Agreed. I do not see why there is a delay on choosing a design. It's been over two months since the contest started.

5 BTC prize now worth over $4,000.

I'll give credit where credit is due once the prize of the contest has been legitimately awarded.

Good luck to all the entrants!

Hi everyone,

I am really sorry by the way I can't pay the bounty yet, but Bitcoin was worth something like $120 when I made the OP... now it's worth $815. I am working really hard to get some income coming in so I can get the bounty paid. Please be patient with me, it will be paid at some point. I have never scammed anyone in this community and do not plan to start now.

That being said, I decided to narrow it down to the top 5 designs so the others can use their design elsewhere if they would like.

The top 5 designs (in the order they were submitted):

Yes, I PMed him telling him I hope he realized that leaving negative trust is going to effect how long it takes to pay the bounty. It will turn away some customers for sure. But it is what it is, I don't really care if he removes the negative trust or not, I have enough good trust ratings as is. Also I criticized his analysis of my thinking process when he posted "From that post he has realized that the coin business is not all about the design of the coins but trust in Private Keys and selling.  And so giving away free coins that arent loaded are hard to sell and even give away."

My point was that if people don't trust me, then they wouldn't let me handle the 1500+ BTC for my group buys. If that's not trust, then I'm not sure what is... I've done many transactions over the forums without escrow and held up my end of the bargain every time. Only once has someone required me to use escrow and it was actually a transaction I initiated yesterday, as you have added your negative feedback to my account and Carlos opened a scam accusation.

I am still a very honest trustworthy guy, I just do not have 5 BTC to pay this bounty right now. If you think that makes me a scammer, then whatever. I have stated I will pay it as soon as I can. I know you think you're helping but you're not. The thinly veiled jab at me in your post... "if I am asked about your business capabilities I will suggest they look elsewhere" ...... The truth is I have done over 2000 BTC worth of transactions for group buys and selling/buying things on the forums, ALL of it without escrow, with ZERO problems. If my personal problems (which are just that, PERSONAL, not applicable to my business) make you uncomfortable to do business with me then I understand, but don't try to push those views on others. I know you think you're helping, but honestly I can work this out with the people still in the contest on my own. I am still planning on honoring the 5 BTC bounty.

My business was not started to make money, it was started to further the adoption of cryptocoins by offering affordable services and businesses. Not because I have a huge stash of coins I want to increase in value, but because I support the original ideals of cryptocoins due to their libertarian-like nature. I do not care if I never break even because I overpaid for the design by $4000. Again, I will get the bounty paid as soon as possible. Just please chill out on the scam accusations, it hurts my ability to pay the bounty.

CoinHoarder - it saddens me to read the comments here. I didn't see the post about your personal problems before it was taken down, and frankly I don't need to see it.

Based on our past interactions and your consistently scrupulous behaviour I would be happy to lend you 1 BTC, interest free, for as long as you need it, because you're one of the three or four people on these forums who I know will definitely pay me back when you're able. I have also posted in the scam accusation thread to vouch for your character.

Hi all,

First of all let me apologize it has taken me so long to payout this bounty. I have learned a good lesson in all of this, and I appreciate your patience with me.

For those of you that don't know, about the same time I started this contest I took out a loan of 30 BTC from a forum member when Bitcoin was something like $115 each (from memory.) I cashed this out to FIAT immediately upon receiving the loan for some business expenses. About a month later the Bitcoin price skyrocketed to $1000+ where it stayed until just recently. This effectively made my loan of $3450 cost $30,000+ to pay back. I made many loan payments when the price was above or around $1000 costing me A LOT of FIAT in the process. It is for this reason I have obviously had a hard time paying back the loan and paying out this bounty. I am gracious that the lender (and you guys) has been very patient with me and I am paying back what I can afford as fast as possible. As of now I have paid back 27+ BTC of the 30 BTC loan, and I have promised to pay 32.2 BTC total back as compensation for the loan. As long as we don't have another huge rise in price of a Bitcoin, I believe I can pay off the loan this month. After the loan is repaid my next focus is paying off this bounty.

Again, I sincerely apologize it is taking so long. I made many loan payments when the price of Bitcoin was ~$1000 and all of my money is going to repay it. I have no savings... FIAT or cryptocoins, and every single extra $ I get is going to repay the loan and this bounty. I am pretty much working three jobs to pay off this debt, including running my coin business, ASIC hosting service, and my day job. I have not bought anything that I didn't absolutely need. I am hardly making my bills after making payments for the loan and am living month to month. All of this money that is going to repay the loan and the bounty I should of been reinvesting in my business so I can keep it going and order more coins. The future of CryptoVest coins is in jeopardy because of my stupid decision to take a loan denominated in BTC and make this bounty contest. It takes a large amount of capital to make new coins and holograms and I do not know when or if I will be able to save up enough to do so. I am severely regretting this series of poor decisions to get a loan and start a bounty denominated in BTC. However, at the end of the day I am a man of my word and I promise to have everyone paid back as soon as I am able.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding,

Will

Yeesh poor guy.  Also a good guy, makes awesome coins.  I feel like you should only have to pay the value of the bounty when you first made the offer.  So you pay whatever 5 BTC was when the contest first started.  I mean if 1 BTC went up to $1,000,000, would we really expect him to pay out 5 mill?!

Busy trying to make money to pay off my loan and pay off this bounty. I am sorry, but I can't make $4000 appear out of no where. I am still living pay check to pay check, I am still working at my main job, I started a new business to help make some money but I'm not receiving many sales so I'm not making hardly any money with that. It is what it is, please just be patient.

I have not and will not forget about this and I will pay it as soon as I can.

It's been over a month since the last update. Wanted to see where this stands.

Something tells me this may turn into a perpetually long bounty to pay off, especially if BTC goes to $1000 again.

It has been 7-8 months now since this contest started.

Thank you,

Ch

Quoted for future reference.

Any timeframe/deadline on this?
It will go until I announce a winner. Sorry to be vague, but I don't really want to put a time limit on it. I will likely wait about a week and review the submissions thus far and decide if it should go longer or not.

So the contest will go until you announce a winner.

UPDATE: This contest is now closed, please do not submit any more designs. Thank you.

But you say that the contest is now closed.

So who was the winner?

If not, I suppose the contest is still running?

Thanks for clarifying.

Here is a series of posts from Coinhoarder with nothing in-between but silence:

I apologize everyone. I have been very busy and hadn't had anytime to reply here or choose a winner. In fact, I believe there is still a design someone has done that I haven't even seen yet. A winner will be chosen and they will be paid. I will try to get with that designer this weekend so I can start to compare all the designs.

Thanks,

Ch

Whatever...

Ch

PS: Which one of your sock puppets submitted a design Carlos L??

Hi everyone,

I am really sorry by the way I can't pay the bounty yet, but Bitcoin was worth something like $120 when I made the OP... now it's worth $815. I am working really hard to get some income coming in so I can get the bounty paid. Please be patient with me, it will be paid at some point. I have never scammed anyone in this community and do not plan to start now.

That being said, I decided to narrow it down to the top 5 designs so the others can use their design elsewhere if they would like.

The top 5 designs (in the order they were submitted):
ibminer
likehero
mjbmonetarymetals
acorn
zinodaur

Will

Sooo... how you been CH?

Busy trying to make money to pay off my loan and pay off this bounty. I am sorry, but I can't make $4000 appear out of no where. I am still living pay check to pay check, I am still working at my main job, I started a new business to help make some money but I'm not receiving many sales so I'm not making hardly any money with that. It is what it is, please just be patient.

I have not and will not forget about this and I will pay it as soon as I can.

Here is the response you get when you ask if he plans to pay out before going on his hiatus from the forums:

The first people that contacted me and paid, your stuff is on its way as of today. Sorry about the delay.. life is crazy right now. I will write some assembly instructions and post them here. Make sure to read them.. I had a customer brick his units by plugging in 5v power into the Gridseeds.

- If you have emailed me and not heard back from me, you will hear from me today.

- If you emailed me and don't want your stuff shipped back and want it hosted. I will have your things back up and running within the end of the week. I apologize for delay.. I'm still moving.

- If you opened a Paypal dispute, I cannot send your stuff to you I apologize. I literally have $0 in my pocket and my bank account is negative, I cannot cover your shipping. When you open a dispute, Paypal freezes the money. Email me to work something out.

I am giving you guys all accessories at no costs, and 1 special edition physical litecoin (worth ~$15 each unloaded on Ebay) per Gridseed you ordered (until supplies last I am not sure I have enough to do 1-1 for everyone.) I have these left over from people that didn't pay for them after the auctions. This is the only way I can somewhat make up for this as I have no coins or cash. I hope you appreciate it... as I have definitely lost a lot of time and money in this as well. I wasn't making much of anything selling these Gridseeds as it was- hosted units I literally made nothing after paying for accessories and was planning on making money from hosting fees. That obviously never happened.

I am going to take a long hiatus from the cryptocoin community after this is cleared up. I will not continue any businesses I have started, I need to eliminate stress as much as possible from my life. I admit I am young (27) and still have a lot to learn. I have made some mistakes and I am sorry about that. I wish things would have gone better, but it most of it was out of my control. I literally do not know how I am going to eat tonight. I am now living with my sister, first night here she's like "I'm seeing this guy and he's gonna stay the night tonight." I'm thinking to myself... fuck my life. I told someone in email, but since I delayed even more I will explain it to you publicly. I have been having problems with depression the past 6 months or so. It has been hard for me to live a normal life, it is why I lost my job. I have suffered with depression off and on my whole life, but lately I have been the worst I've ever been. I would totally kill myself right now if I didn't have a family that would be devastated. I can't do that to them... I need to learn to be strong and teach myself how to be happy again. I have been going through some really tough times, all I am asking for is a little understanding.

Please just have patience and this whole thing will be fixed shortly. I am still moving.. no A/C at my old place or the warehouse in 90+ degree weather... by myself. This is why I have been slow to respond and send everything back. I will try to make an effort to be better about responding etc so we can get this cleared up once and for all.

Thanks.

Since you are going to take a hiatus I figured I would ask if plan to tie up all loose ends including this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=289668.0

It has been 9 months and counting. Just asking.

It seems Smoothie's life mission is to ruin my reputation. I think I am doing an OK job of that on my own Smoothie, I don't need your help. Tongue

GFY

1. You mad bro?

2. It was just a question. No need to get in a hissy fit.

3. Concerning your acronym, no thanks. I do not swing that way. But Goat might take you up on that offer since he offered the same thing to me just the other week.  Grin Grin Grin

4. So can you answer the question like a legitimate forum user or will you just keep dodging the issue?

5. Nice try to make me out to be the one who is in the wrong here. Clearly all I've done is call things as I've seen it. All you have done in response is to whine and cry wolf that I am stalking you and attacking you. You and goat sure appear to have similar traits. You aren't related are you? Tongue

Grow up Smoothie, aren't you like 30+ years old? This is ridiculous... As I've said 10 times now (maybe more)- I will pay off the loan and bounty as soon as I am able. I didn't feel the need to repeat myself, especially to you. I am broke and in debt to a couple people in this community. If I had money to pay them then I would, but I cannot. You bothering me about it all the time doesn't change anything- just because you make a post on here (and in at least 5 other threads over 2 forums in the past month or so) doesn't magically grant me the ability to shit money out of my ass. Maybe you don't understand... I am sure you are pretty well off from you crypto investments and selling overpriced coins, unfortunately I cannot say the same for myself. I couldn't go out to eat if I wanted.. all my money is in groceries in fridge or in my possessions, most of which I am selling to get back on my feet.

I am a freaking broken depressed individual right about now and things have not been going well. So what do you do? You go around and rub it in my face all over. That is just a very mean spirited thing to do and I am sure you have no heart. You are not even directly involved and have NEVER supported or purchased anything from me- EVER. You make it seem like you're some white knight rescuing the helpless from a terrible tyrant, when in actuality your actions and what you say about me stem from some kind of hatred you have for me. Why should you give a shit about all of this? Were you affected by any of it? NO... I know you're going to come back with some bullshit like "because I really care about people getting scammed" or something, but you and I both know this is personal for you. Otherwise you would be posting in one of the other million scammer threads and trying to help those people out. Yet, you only come here and harass me. I think part of your hatred from me stems from me pointing out that you are making a killing on your coins, and now it has been exemplified now that I came out that I no longer support Litecoin. Just please admit these are the true reasons why you harrass me, it is quite obvious although you try your best to hide your true reasons.

I have now ignored you, I should of done it about 2 years ago. Good day.

In Cryptocoins I Trust

Hi, its been a while but I thought I would update those involved in this.

I have two debts in the cryptocoin community.

#1 - A 30 Bitcoin loan in which I worked out a deal with rudrigorc2 to only owe 32 Bitcoins for. I have since paid about 31.5 Bitcoins back out of the 32 Bitcoins owed. You can see the payment address here to follow along with my progress and see that I am paying back my debt... slowly but surely:

Payment address: https://blockchain.info/address/1MenQ9tJiGHaNwTiFJJu2g9F2qpseWzPMu
Original loan thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=285592.0

Since the first debt was a loan, and it was done before I started the bounty competition, I thought it was the right thing to do to pay off the loan before paying off this bounty competition. Bitcoin has gone up a lot in value, and I paid off a lot of the loan when Bitcoins were worth $800+, a lot of the loan was paid back when Bitcoin was $1000+. It makes me sick to think I could of waited for the Bitcoin price to crash and I would of had enough money to cover all of my debts and still have some Bitcoin savings. However, it could of just as easily skyrocketed even more leaving me with the impossible task of paying off a lot of debt, so I suppose I am happy with my decision there.

#2 the design a physical Bitcoin bounty debt.

As you can tell I am making headway with my debt, and as soon as I am able I will pay off this debt as well. I am not making a lot of money nowadays, but I am a man of my word and I will get it paid off as soon as I can.

Thanks for your patience.

+2 months later and still nothing...

Approximately 11-12 months from the time this bounty was expected to paid (if I'm not mistaken).

Someone made a scammer thread about this given how long this is taking.

Time will tell how long you take to pay this off.

Time is money remember that.

And yes CH anything on a public forum is public business so please spare me the "it doesn't involve you" BS you like to spout when being called out on your claims/promises/obligations.

For coinhoarder to actually fulfill his obligations he will need to:

1. Decide on a winning design in one form or another.

2. Pay the winner the 5 BTC bounty.

3. Get the coin minted so he can at least give the winner the free coin they won by winning this contest.

4. Have the winning hologram design manufactured as well.

5. Post design credits on cryptovest.com which currently reads the following when you go to his site:

"Service Unavailable

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."

It will take much more than just paying the 5 BTC bounty for Coinhoarder to be out of debt on this contest.

I wouldn't expect him to deliver on his obligations above that I listed in any meaningful time frame.

Thank you,

Almost 2 months later...still nothing.

Now standing at about 14 months since contest should have been paid out and completed.

Looks like it got taken down.

Closing up shop?

As I said everything in the OP is clearly listed on what CH needs to do before he is out of debt here.

At this point this is scammer territory as it has been well over a year now since the contest ended.

First of all, my apologies that it has taken me way too long to settle this debt. I was put in a very tough spot financially about a couple years ago, and have been struggling ever since then to get my feet back under me financially. I have been working very hard this year to get back on my feet, that along with the help of my family to provide me a place to live, has finally allowed me to finally be in a position to be able to pay this bounty.

I stopped responding here a long time ago because at the time there was nothing I could do to fix the situation, and nothing good would have come of it other than a good show of poo slinging for the spectators (which was all this thread was good for the last few pages.) I decided to let the naysayers continue talking without refuting their ignorant claims of me being a scammer, as most of them were people I've butted heads with in the past and they were just using this as a prime opportunity to pounce and drag my name through the mud. None of them know me personally, knew of my future intentions regarding making this debt whole whenever I was able to, or the full story of my personal financial situation as I have not shared everything here publicly on the forums. Some things are too personal to put out there on the internet and are quite frankly no one's business.

I had the option to take the easy way out. A friend of mine that submitted a design in the competition offered around December of 2013 to send me 5 Bitcoins, me declare him the winner, and then me send the 5 Bitcoins back to him. Despite the trolling and scammer accusations I was receiving, I decided that I would not take him up on this offer. I decided that I would keep my integrity and would judge the contest fairly, awarding the bounty to the design I like best whenever I was able to actually pay the bounty. I knew in my heart I was not a scammer. I knew that I was a honest person with good intentions that simply fell into a tough situation, and knowing that was all that mattered to me at the time. "Shit happens" as they say.

Along with that extreme act of kindness, I offer my sincere gratitude to those of you that had my back and offered kind words and support during this predicament via PMs and other communication methods. It was you guys that helped me through this hard time, when I could of easily walked away and truly been the scammer that all of the "haters" were accusing me of being. That would have been so easy to do honestly as nothing but a negative reputation on a Bitcoin forum, that hardly anyone knows or cares about in the real world, would have been the only thing that came of it. However, I am a man with integrity and that was never really an option that I considered at any point throughout all of this.

Two years later I am finally able to pay this debt. I will announce the winner when I have the coins available (EDIT: I was wrong about how long it will take the payment to clear) in about a week. To avoid the conspiracy theorists and more trolling, I will provide proof it is actually me buying the Bitcoins for the bounty. Along with the screenshot I will be sending the transaction with a comment referencing this contest and my name to whichever Bitcoin address the winner posts here ITT. I will not be able to fulfill all of the terms in the OP, or at least not immediately. I am honestly not sure I will ever mint another physical crypto currency in my lifetime as I'm not sure anyone truly trusts me to do so after this silly debacle. Among other things, such as losing my original domain name and some domain sniper wanting to charge me $2k+ to buy my old domain back. I will be adding 1 Bitcoin to the bounty and my word that if I am ever to mint a physical Bitcoin that I will do my best to fulfill all of the other terms of the original competition that remain unedited in the OP to this day.

I am looking forward to putting this behind me and becoming a contributing member to the crypto community, as my passion for decentralized technology has never wavered and am excited for what the future holds. Without further ado, here is the proof the bounty is on its way, and I look forward to announcing the winner soon.  Grin

I am happy to see you are going to be able to finally end this thread CH. It will be exciting to see you active in the community again, I really do believe you have a lot to offer to the Bitcoin community, and hopefully can regain some of the lost trust. I had a lot of faith in you back at the time of this contest or I would have never devoted my time to even attempting a design, let alone getting involved with the Seven Dwarfs  Shocked

After about the 1 year mark of not seeing an end to this contest, I lost a lot of faith in you and started questioning my own judgement. I am happy to see that my judgement back then was accurate, and that you are a man who cares about the Bitcoin community and actually has some type of integrity, which can at times be scarce around these forums.

Looking forward to hearing the outcome and really looking forward to seeing what your plans are in the future.

Alright, the BTC is loaded ready to go in Coinbase. I'd like to thank everyone that submitted many great designs. It was a very hard decision to have to pick my favorite out of many quality designs. I really could have went with a three or four way tie as I likes several designs very much, but unfortunately I have to pick one winner. Without further ado, I have chosen Acorn's design to be the winner. I liked all of the detail and the design of his coin. Acorn, I have PMed you and will send the 6 Bitcoins as soon as I am able after you post a Bitcoin address in this thread!

Even though I am paying 6 Bitcoins to the winner I still feel bad about this situation. It was not fair to keep you guys hanging for a couple years wondering if you won the contest or not. So, I have decided to also give all people who submitted designs in this contest 0.4 Bitcoins for participating in the contest. If you feel like I missed you then please PM me. The list of Bitcointalk user names that submitted designs I have as follows:

1. Austin - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=64329
2. ibminer - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=84866

9. acorn - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=69855
10. Zinodaur - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=91116

Your 0.4 BTC is on its way, feel free to post a Bitcoin address ITT and 0.4 BTC will be sent as soon as it's available. Coinbase says I'll have it in 4 days:

Thank you all for the encouraging words and messages since my return a week ago, it will feel nice to put this ordeal behind me and get back to being a contributing member of the crypto currency society.  Grin

Honestly I am not sure if or when the coin will be minted. If I am able it will likely not be for another year or so, as I have other debt to take care of in real life. I am not sure of details about how it will be minted at this point.. sorry.

As I said shortly after submitting my design my drive failed and I lost the .svg file so keep the 0.4 btc you never know it might be worth many times more in a few years and help you recover lost funds from this whole project.  Grin

If you feel like I missed you then please PM me.

PM sent.

Adding SISAR to the .4 BTC list after proving via PM that he submitted a design, and taking Mjbmoneyarymetals off as per his request ITT.

Coins will be here in a few days.

Cheers

6 BTC received! Thank you very much. Cheers!
Do let me know if you are able to have the coins produced in the future.

Great, will do. I plan on doing it someday. Although this contest went poorly, there has not been one report of my physical Litecoins being compromised (that has been brought to my attention.) So, in between that and me (hopefully) rectifying this situation to everyone's satisfaction will hopefully allow for everyone trust me enough to make the huge investment it takes to order a lot of coins to bring prices down to a reasonable cost. I won't even have the money to do so for some time, so I'm just going to wait and see. I have no plans on minting them at this time.

Super cool of you, man.

Really good design as well. Congrats, acorn. Smiley

Thanks, nice to see you here Zinodaur! You bring back some good CryptoVest memories and remind me of a better time... lol (Zinodaur made the design for the CryptoVest physical Litecoin.)  Grin

Adding SISAR to the .4 BTC list after proving via PM that he submitted a design

Thanks! To clear potential issues with account names, designs were not submited with this account but account "Bitcoin Megastore" which I used at that time for my CafePress shop (Bitcoin T-Shirts and such). After few weeks of no response from CoinHoarder I deleted all designs and after a while everything else I posted then abandoned account and shop. I could not delete posts where others quoted me so here are two from this thread:

Congratulations acorn and good job on the design!

CH, this is a generous offer, part of me wants to tell you to keep it and part of me wants to accept it. I think I am leaning towards listening to the "accept it" side of me this time  Grin    I'm not a professional designer and probably out of my league here (and definitely need to work on 3d rendering), but I devoted enough of my life to this thread and contest that I feel like .4BTC could make up for some of it  Grin .... even if I never get to see my design on a coin  Undecided     Regardless, you didn't have to offer any consolation but it certainly is a noble gesture and commendable. Thank you.

CoinHoarder - congratulations on pulling through all of this with flying colours.

To all those who have received payments from CoinHoarder, may I humbly suggest that you consider leaving positive trust feedback. He didn't have to make all of the 0.4BTC payments, nor did he have to pay an extra 1BTC to the winner. I would say that this constitutes trustworthy behaviour.

Smoothie, Blazr, ibminer, DiamondCardz and Vod - are the actions above the actions of a member of the community that you would still consider to be untrustworthy?

Surely you cannot still think that CH is / might be a scammer? If indeed you don't consider him a scammer, can I politely ask that you consider removing the negative feedback you have left him?

I want to point out that ever since this whole contest hit a road block I have personally been 100% confident that CH was completely trustworthy, and I even offered to lend him 1 BTC interest free (see page 7 of this thread), which he thanked me for but never took me up on.

I have never met CH in real life, but based on my past experience dealing with him, in my eyes this is certainly not a guy who deserves:
"Trust: -29: -5 / +3    Warning: Trade with extreme caution! "

Hello all,

I am still catching some flak for being late on paying out this bounty. Even though I paid out more BTC than I said I would, and paid the losers of the competition even though I didn't have to. At today's market price, I paid out over $5696 US dollars for a graphic design (this contest)...

I apologize for taking so long to pay the bounty, but I feel like I have made good on my obligations, and do not think any actual participants of this contest still feel wronged.

I urge any PARTICIPANTS of this competition to come forward if you still feel like you have been wronged, and I will do my best to make good by you whenever and however I am able.

Thanks and take care,

William
