Glad you came to the realization that most ICOs are a scam show and only fleece the current people in the market of their funds. I would hold all ICOs now and incoming to a higher standard and it warms my heart to know others are now doing the same. Kudos!

Have you managed to make any profits at all from your ICO investments? If you only invested in December, it's too soon to tell whether a coin will perform or not. You have to help things along by building a community, ensuring that the coins are listed on many exchanges etc, and it's hard work.
What exchanges do you recommend for just-after-ICO startup if not Etherdelta or Hitbtc?

That's right, there are too many ICOs. And I don't need to point out again about how we suffer to pick a trustworthy one. Facebook already banned ICO. I don't want to just abandoned the idea of ICO but I must even if I don't want to.

My point of view is not to give up all these ICO but to pick from them. If we can't find the right one then we should try more than one. I think then one of them would be fruitful. I think ICO is one of the next big technological advancement. We simply can't keep us away from it, we shouldn't.

What exchanges do you recommend for just-after-ICO startup if not Etherdelta or Hitbtc? EtherDelta is usually by far the best place to get tokens at an absolute bargain price, since pre-ico/pre-sale participants usually dump there first. IDEX is similar but often a tad more expensive already. Hitbtc, Rightbtc and the likes are perhaps not the best place to buy cheap, since getting those tokens out of there is often not that easy, but also not without a hefty transfer fee. Once on the bigger exchanges like Kucoin, Binance, OKEx, Bitfinex etc you will still be able to buy cheap, but often only after the first peak has passed (usually a launch at these exchanges will lead to a sharp increase, followed by a dump....though this is not always the case, you may be left out if you wait too long). As for EtherDelta, it seems to be offline at the moment (which is weird for a decentralized exchange )...

agree! for the last 2 months I can not withdraw the invested money from the ICO. The situation scares me, but I understand that as soon as the market starts to grow, all projects will come alive, and everything will be fine. It takes a little longer.

About ICOs,
I will take caution on the ICO myself. I think the opportunity to invest on new project is when they reach the exchange. I plan to buy ETH and hold it until the ratio of the ICO that i want is cheaper. When the ICO reached the exchange it removes a lot of risk of: scam like the other ICO you do not even see in the crytomarketcap; or the contract address being hacked like CDT; or project not being released like Tezos. It also removes the speculation and hype of the the project when it is tested in the market.
The fact that almost all of the ICO does not have a working project or it is still in alpha, most investors who bought on the ICO will sell it early, weather for instant profit or FUD.

In most of the cases, once a "token" hits exchange for the first time after ICO, the price is always at below ICO price (or even below Pre-ICO price). In here, most investors doesn't have any choice but to wait for that "right" time to dump to take profits etc. And then the "give up" thing will happen, some investors will prefer to make a dump early to minimize the loss. And then for people who got their tokens at outside ICO's (in the means of bounties or any other promotional activities with rewards), surely they will hit that dump button the moment they got their tokens resulting for a bit shake on the market. Honestly, the main purpose of most people why they are investing on ICO's is about the price and not the technology behind it no matter how good and spectacular it s.

I quite agree with the OP and did take the exit measure after my gory experience with the glasscoin ICO last year. Not only was it very stressful trying to buy in at the designated time window which normally didn't last up to 5mins each day, the coins got to the market below the ICO price. I asked myself what the stress was for then? I bought at 0.80 ICO price but glasscoin is yet to attain that price since hitting the exchange.

ICO investment is the strongest investment trend this year, which is my guess. Because when the cryptocurrency market fluctuates too much, the trade becomes very difficult so the ICO investment is an option. It is great that you can buy the token at the lowest price. As far as I know, every day more than 10 new ICO projects are created so choosing which project to invest is not a thing easily. Be sure to study carefully before investing.

I have seen more people in the last months say that if you do enough research, you'll be having more luck, but that's not the case. Even if the project in question is legit and has a decent plan behind it, there is nothing that guarantees you that their tokens will reflect that. I have always considered ICO's to be a pure gamble, and that hasn't changed so far, and will never change. From there you are better off just waiting for a lower entry point of the various top crypto currencies in this market, and then open a leveraged position, which is somewhat of a gamble too, but likely going to provide you with a much quicker potential return.

Absolutely yes, so many Ico's yet there are still Ico are good investment. In this industry for you to earned money you have to be more careful in choosing a good ones. Although there are scam, but many of us still investing into it. Best is to research and make some analyzation on good ones for us not to get scam.

In the end this will not work I think. How can hundreds of upcoming ICO's all collect 20-40 million usd and will that money ever enter the crypto marketcap? What ICO will stand out and how will you find out in time to be a part of it without aiming for each and every one hoping one will go to moonville.
I never mentioned actual scam ICO's btw, only ICO's that had their token metrics in order and still only went x2-x6 at best, later dropping to x2 or less.
I decided to quit ICO's and focus on good quality coins with low mc and increasing volume, not too much total supply and low circ supply. Last few weeks I was lucky to jump on the train for MAN (Matrix AI), Trac (OriginTrail) and CPC (CPChain).
ICO's I participated in like Wepower, Swissborg, Dether and several others all are pretty much under ICO (crowdsale). I am in no hurry though, I am sure those will pick up as soon as the whole mc rises again.

And this is exactly why I'm also not in to it. For me icos are more like gambling game with extremely elongated period of rounds. Many months separate initial offerings from actual listing, to much stuff can happen during this time. On the other hand, when you entering at the end of the ico stage than usually you are already in the loss. Careful study of one particular project can also be tricky, so many people are getting paid for cheering a project that there is no way to determinate if its even real. That's why fresh ANN threads are useful, people tend to ask hard questions there, making a bit easier to spot fraudsters. In general there is to much risk for my taste. I'm only taking advantage of airdrops but so far not to much profit from them, which only shows how ico related with those drops where a combination of hype and false promises. Not even mentioning about blunt scams...

Joining ICO's are really risky there are lots of cons and pros when it comes to investing, You just have to pick the right project and do some research about the team.

Well you can still work in ICO without investing your money. You can join all bounty campaigns here. There is also trading exist here. You can do trading instead of investing in the ICO. Actually there are many ways to earn and have a good income. Just don't loose hopes in the crypto currency business.

There are a lot of good icos out there that have real projects with good teams behind it and i think those are really worth looking into and investing on. The risk of course applies on all icos, its a higher risk than most investments out there but looking forward to years from now, these icos will play a big part in the future. Research and study as always, would be the most important prerequisite before investing

I understand your point and I also share in your sentiment, it hurts to see coins bought at ICO to be trading below the crowdsale price. But that shouldn't stop you from investing in ICO's, only participate in projects you trust, then you won't worry much.

I agree with you. Many ico's are just selling crap or not responding adequately to the investors. But I think that's the price of having the opportunity to generate a large profit in a small time. You just need to be more carefull in your picks.
