So what do you think would happen if another Cryptocurrency (Example Monero / Ethereum etc) were to take Bitcoins spot as first in market cap?

This will be the a great news if someone from the altcoins will takeover bitcoin. Ethereum can do but they still need to fixed all flaws of their blockchain but so far they are on par with bitcoin. The integration of smart contract make them famous and considered an advanced on technology. Also other project like NEO can move forward but it will take time. If 5 yrs from now other project will take over, probably we can see a great future on cryptocurrency.

Nope it will not happen any time soon, and I think ethereum will not be able to take over bitcoin positions, users are more comfortable using bitcoin for their main assets, and ethereum is just an option for their investments other than bitcoin, maybe a few years to come, there will be other competitors

I think this would cause a big changes in the way how bitcoin looks, and also in the way how investors see their bitcoins, so they will not any more think the Bitcoin is supreme, and the best.

It probably will never happen but if it were to occur, the smart bet would be that Ethereum is the coin to take BTC's place in Market Cap.

What would happen?   HODLers of ETH would rejoice!

BTC will rule for now but as soon as ETH moves to Casper and implements a solid PoS network, BTC will have to struggle to keep the current leadership

I don't think another coin can take over bitcoin place especially in the near future because bitcoin has become the king of crypto currency for a long time and also until now the price gap between bitcoin and eth are very far.

I doubt that there is any other cryptocurrency or altcoin that can supersede the bitcoin. At least not for the next 5-10 years. Of course there are many rising competitors like Ripple,  Litecoin and Ethereum.  But Bitcoin is historically the first and best crypto currency. It’s been just a few years since the bitcoin came into existence and there’s still a long way to go.

Its already happened, the capitalisation of Ripple far exceeds Bitcoin.   However most Ripple is stored with a few of the owners and will only pay out in future for their benefit.   However I choose to refer to that value in realising Ripple is likely far over valued vs its actual usage.

Little matters beyond actual usage, the prices are speculation but trade in Bitcoin done for FIAT or other goods is the largest true economy and there isnt crypto close to that.  Distribution of a coin is one indication of a real market

It's a sign that other crypto currencies are starting to rival the bitcoin and may be a bit of a chaotic market. But maybe it will not last long, because it will be very difficult to replace bitcoins with other crypto currencies.

Well if any other coin took bitcoins place it may said as more users who truly support that coin. It will be difficult actually by other coin to replace bitcoins place as until now people are into use of bitcoin. In the future bitcoin for me is still the king and leading the cryptocurrency.

I think it would be fine if there are other altcoins that replace the bitcoin place as the highest cryptocurrency. Future changes will occur and hopefully those changes will make cryptocurrency existence much better in the future.

A lot would have to happen. Because outside people will be buying bitcoin to buy that coin, which in a sense makes Bitcoin always stay ahead.

Ripple doesn't have a higher market cap than Bitcoin.

Bitcoin's market cap $107 billion.
Ripple's market cap (premine included) $48 billion.
Ethereum's market cap $46 billion.

IIRC, it happened once that Ripple actually surpassed Bitcoin's market cap, but that was during a pump that was never going to be sustainable. It has never meant anything, and people completely ignored it.

Ripple's volumes are quite on the lower side. The following coins with far lower market caps have higher volumes:

Litecoin.
Bcash.
Ethereum Classic.

All useless coins.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

I can not think of anything because it has never happened yet, but I think it is quite impossible if another Cryptocurrency could replace the Bitcoin positions that always exist at the top of the market. while Bitcoin is the parent of all types of Altcoin, so how can replace its position.

I agree that we really don't hold of what the future could be. Once the bitcoin max cap will reach, we really don't know what will happen next. Some people are saying that since there are no more to be mined, its price will go even higher and others also believe that the transaction fees will even be higher that time as well - but who knows?

I will be one of the happiest people on earth if ethereum will be the no.1 crypto in the market. But for now no crypto can beat bitcoin. Because all altcoins prices depend on bitcoin. Every time bitcoin fall all altcoins follow.

I know many people here will like to see their favorite coin taking the spot of bitcoin at the top of the market cap but I'm not so sure they understand what that means, let us look at fiat, if the dollar was taken out of its spot as the most dominant coin then there will an economic crisis of such proportions that any crisis that came before it will seem like it is nothing and the same will happen to crypto if bitcoin lost its top spot.

I don't think anything will happen. Bitcoin has always been and will remain the first number. In order for the capitalization of any cryptocurrency to increase, huge money and coordinated actions are needed in the market of those who invest this money. But the most difficult thing is to keep the capital. It's difficult.
Yeah you are right. Now the trend is different and many people are putting their money in Altcoin because of the decreasing price of bitcoin and other reason is high price of bitcoin. Small investors are looking to Altcoin because Altcoin also possess big potential of growth and in the near future small coin investors will also earn big money due to increase in the price.

Market Cap is defined as the market capitalization and in the field of electronic money it is the market capitalization of the money market if another cryptocurrency took place in the market cap is also normal. in the electronics market

Then all that belongs to bitcoin will be on that altcoin together with the authority to all crypto in the market.

of course, users platform will be drastically changed, and more eth owners today will be billionaires in the future, just like what happened to bitcoin owners in the past where bitcoin is not so expensive, today they are the millionaires, if ever that happens all major markets and merchants that are accepting bitcoin will turn to eth and same as campaigns and services that pays bitcoin. not so shocking because we have experience it with bitcoin already. turning to eth will not be so overwhelming.
