I'm wondering what happens if someone scams Amazon then it comes back on you because you received the product. So lets say someone uses a stolen credit card to order off Amazon. You receive the product and everything seems OK. They get the BTC and disappear. Then later the black helicopters show up and raid your house (you know what I mean, ). There would be no way to catch the actual scammer. So yeah, you're getting a discount but you're also taking a huge risk and not just risk of losing BTC, but legal risk of being charged with fraud.

Sorry people, didn't realize this place was getting so much attention.
Funds are kept in escrow until the spender releases them, but the spender won't be able to withdraw either.

I have made 3 transactions so far buying btc (smaller amounts) and have had no issues. I have made 2 transactions so far buying btc - about $300 total, also have no issues. I would not do the other side though getting Amazon purchases in case of a stolen card doing the buying. I would like to see some of the Amazon guys use more sensible prices for 3-5 day delivery as I dont have prime. thanks! anyone buying products on amazon via purse.io wish to share their experiences?

I was an early member of purse.io and I was both a buyer and seller. I had no problems being either and all transactions were smooth. When there was a shipping delay the other party was quick to inform me and I did the same on the products I ordered for people. I have not used purse.io in the last month so I can not comment on it more recently.

I've gotten a nice amount of BTC at a decent rate on this site. I've even seen people snag deals where the seller listed a $25 item for .09 BTC. Hopefully I can snag one of these someday .

I tried selling bitcoins on the site.
Only 1 out of 10 transactions actually worked out. People click "purchase" and then click "completed purchase" even though they have not actually bought the items in your wishlist. Purse then holds your bitcoins in escrow for a few days and then finally releases them. Dont know what purse can do to stop such abuse. As of now its really kinda failed IMHO. Good concept but its broken at the moment.
edit: I like on their site how it says "In the unlikely event of disputes occurring between Buyers and Spenders" .... in my experience - 9 out of 10 transactions had people claiming they had made a purchase but did not actually do it. Easy enough to resolve but this is happening all too often..

Staples Gift Card - $75 Estimated Tax $5.62 Subtotal $80.62 DiscountChange% $8.06 Fee 1% $0.81 Final price $73.36
Tax? There's no tax on checkout for me.
Does this mean it will just get issued back when the buyer doesn't pay it?
Thanks.

Did an order an order similar to my above post. Even with a 15% discount. It had me escrow $86 worth of btc for a $75 item.
Hopefully I don't get charged that in the long run.
First order, and hoping it goes well!
EDIT: Is this thread alive? EDIT 2: Just realized they have a "guarantee" that orders will be placed in 24 hours if you mark it at 10% or less. Pretty sweet. Did this about 5 minutes ago. So we'll see how it goes. EDIT 3: Really hoping it doesn't charge me for this shipping and tax, ugh. EDIT 4. If it doesn't charge me for the shipping / tax. I'm in for a couple more of these orders!

WARNING: AVOID AMAZON GIFT CARDS on PURSE.IO If the "BUYER" uses fraudulant means to pay for your gift card, and Amazon processes the claim, they can and will cancel your gift card WELL after you've released escrow. They will remove the credit from your account, and if you have no gift-card balance, they will charge your credit-card on file. At this time (August 2014) Purse.io has no protection against this type of event, and no remedy in place to return your coin.Hello from Amazon.com. The gift certificate you recently attempted to redeem is invalid. Please understand that we cannot reissue it or reimburse you for these funds. Any associated orders have been cancelled. We suggest that you contact the party who sold you the gift certificate to inquire further about their policies for dispute resolution. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you again at Amazon.com. Sincerely, Account Specialist Amazon.com
Date Description Amount August 22, 2014 Balance withheld $-250.00 August 2, 2014 Gift card claim (claim code xxxx-xxxxxx-TD9Z) $250.00
I'm a long-time purse.io user, love them, have had only good interactions on their site, till now. I notified purse.io, hoping they'd at least investigate, find the user, remove any coin from their account, let me know they'd banned them, etc.. But their response? Sounds like a great big bag of "not our problem"... Because amazon both sold and issued gift codes, they have full control over it. We recommend buying non gift card items. Kent Liu from Purse 22 Aug 2014
I will continue to use purse.io (just used them again this morning, in fact) but this is a problem that users need to be aware of, and that purse.io needs to find a way to address. Until they do, they should ban all gift cards, they're too easy to exploit.

I can't even understand the mentality that makes people think stealing is a cool thing to do. I'm wondering what happens if there's an order sent to your house (not a gift card) and it turns out to be fraudulently purchased as well.

I'm no expert but I can almost guarantee you they're not gonna come to your house and take the item back. They won't come after you legally either, unless there's evidence that you are the same person that bought the item fraudulently. Most likely they'd just ban the purchasing account and make some minor efforts to get their money back. Probably depends on the size of the purchase too.

I'm thinking more along the lines of if you were trading in multiple BTC and ran into cases where people were doing this more widespread (or a single person with multiple accounts). Essentially you'd the the one all the stolen funds are being tracked to. One purchase they may seem as being a coincidence. 5 would raise a lot of suspicions.
