So it seems like only the Baikal N is going to make some cash cause it's being delivered right these days and still no fork for now.

The "lucky" buyers of the X3 will enjoy it for a few days and then, the question is: how will they use their X3?

no firmware update fosho. We all asked Bitmain many times and they have been clear. No way to have a firmware update to fix the fork. If there could have been a firmware update do you think they would have lowered the price so much?

Wtf were they thinking?

Don't they know Monero community hates ASICs? By making an ASIC for those who hate ASICs.. What do they expect in return? Monero will do a PoW change hopefully.

Bitcoin community was too slow to understand what a fucking poison Bitmain/ASICs were but Monero community exactly knows what they are.

Actually satoshi knew damn good and well.  He asked for a gentlemen’s agreement at first when artfortz I believe it was created first gpu miner.  It’s been a while I could be foggy on details.  The asic manufacturers are taking this business model.  Creating bullshit asic resistant coins only to come with an asic they have been mining with from beginning.  I really am beginning to think this is all a game from hw manufacturers to sell us pc hw when we really didn’t need anymore shit.  Yea some great things have come from this industry and more will come.  But the mining side of things has a lot of issue to work out.

Here’s one article from the past. Smiley. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63365.0;all

Here is where it’s finally released.  You see cycle is just repeated.   Wink

I heard that Monero V7 algo will happen in the April instead of 28 this March? I think KnightOfPi also saying about that as well.
So, are we fucked up by this ASIC bastard?
Just building my GPU rigs to focus on CN algo and then this CN ASIC mining comes and fucked up everything!  Cheesy

Correct. Looks to be early April.

Is there any way Bitmain can 'change the firmware' to get around a fork of some of the coins like moreno threating such?

curious if they have any options with ASIC's as an X3 miner...

just watching from the sidelines but curious...

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

Why would bitmain provide a firmware update when they can just create a new machine for that algo and sell those in droves as well.  They have a clear path as a business and thats to sell as many machines as possible, not "help" the miners who bought one of their machines, they've already got your money.

Thats not how ASICs work...the "firmware" is etched into the silicon. Once the ASIC is made for a particular algorithm thats ALL it can do and there is no way to change it.

The only exception to this is if bitmain started building their own FPGAs, which would be way slower than ASICs, but much more energy efficient than GPUs, and almost as flexible as GPUs in changing the algorithm.

Of course like others have stated, there is no reason for them to offer a flexible FPGA style miner, when they can just pump out new ASICs for every new algorithm. They have become so good at it they can bring a new algorithm to silicon in a few months it seems.

They won't do this. Monero will just fork again and they know it. Once people receive their X3s, unless there is a way to profit on them, they won't be buying a newer monero-focused asic after. Bitmain are many things, but they aren't stupid.

So folks with more 'tech cred' on this kinda thing then I have...if you could explain to me (the technically lame on this topic)

does this mean that MOSTLY these x3 machines are gonna be 'dead out of the box' doorstops when they arrive?

or are these forks gonna play out..over say a bit of time MONTHS....so that it has SOME life?

curious (did not get one..not interested)

NO! Let's be honest. Monero will for and maybe also other cryptonight coins but not ALL will fork. And if you check right now the MOST profitable crypotnight coin to mine is not monero nor electroneum nor any of the coins supposed to fork. So there will always be some chances to make some profit out of the X3. not big profit but some yes.
