This would been always part of the risk since we do know ICO investment do really have the tendency on getting failed or scammed along the way.You cant change the fact since there are really people who are greedy which they do all the possible things as long they can able to make money.They do see that ICO are one of the best ways to earn easy money to their investors.Creating a very unique project which can really caught attention but on the other side devs do already have the plans on scamming.

People should be scared of shitcoins. That's the painful truth! There's so many crypto scams out there that it can be compared to walking on a minefield. To put your money in, profit and get out requires you to take a number of steps on the minefield and chances that you'll blow yourself up are high. People are lying to themselves thinking they can outsmart the scammers and that's how it ends: in tears.

ICOs are the most risky investment in the cryptocurrencies world and everybody who chooses to invest in ICO tokens should be doing it with high amount of caution.
When investing in an ICO, you need to make sure that the organizers are well known and have the knowledge to finish the project as planned, because ICO projects tend to fail and most of them won't even complete what they promised.

This is actually a common advise here in the forum, it's sad that people have to repeat this over and over again even though it's a general rule.

So sad that there are some ICOs who are just making money for their own sake.

Let's be honest here, money motivates people which is why I bet it played a big part on how and why those people decided to did an ICO, that's why I don't care if they entirely made it for the sake of money as long as the project is worth it for the investors money and most importantly, as long as they will keep everything they promised.

I do understand that this can affect them but if you have the necessary knowledge and a bit of common sense to process things, you shouldn't be afraid. I mean if you are a weak hand + doesn't know how to use google (gather data) + doesn't have a bit of common sense, then you shouldn't be involving yourself in cryptocurrencies.

They can only run away freely with investors money because they can't be traced, no ban or jail term for them. This is why we are going to continue having them around. We also have such in the forum but really checked to the minimum level because this forum is highly regulated.

It doesn't seem to matter anymore what we are saying. If we look at how many years people have been warned for rogue investment opportunities, it clearly shows that people don't seem to care. I think aside from the newbies constantly jumping into anything they think allows them to make money, the real problem is the changed mentality of the already settled members of this crypto market. I noticed how people are perfectly aware of the risks, and how to seperate scams from legit sites and investment options, but that's not the thing anymore. The main point of importance is that people nowadays knowingly invest in obvious scams, because they think they are early enough to profit before the site or service goes down. How do you combat that? It's impossible....

Oh that is truly hurt if you invest on that project. I try to visit their official website and this is will pop up " This site can’t be reached ". To be exact of money lost is ~$8,823,281 value of tokens sold in ICO. Hoping that all of us will learn in other mistake like this.

Actually, people should be cautious of anything that looks too good to be true. Take a look at almost every crypto/blockchain project that's launched seeking venture capital since 2017 at least: looking past their initial pricing, and taking into account the sheer percentage that they've shed since their ATHs in December or January, I'm guessing that a lot of people are sweating out huge losses... if they haven't already cut losses earlier (unfortunately adding on the selling pressure to fellow holders).

I'm not saying it's a good thing for investors, I feel sorry for those who genuinely thought they were about to "enter the new era" and only hope people invested with money they could afford to lose. But some words of comfort to those who bought the real McCoys - Bitcoin chief among them - is that this will result in a much-needed pruning of the cryptomarket. Kill the shitcoins so the remaining good ones can grow properly.

I would be interested to know if kickstarter, gofundme and similar crowdfunding platforms are prone towards being as scamworthy as ICOs are developing a reputation for being.

It might be said that Star Citizen's kickstarter funding program isn't that different from an ICO. People invested millions in Star Citizen and many of them feel as if they never received what they paid for. That's not far from the typical model of the scam ICO which common wisdom says it is good to avoid. Star Citizen might be compared to an ICO which receives more than $140 million in funding and fails to deliver on its promises.

That's true, We should be careful when we decide to invest in an ICO, we should read carefully the project and the whitepaper to understand more about this project, then we can search about the team, if it's a good and trusted team, then we can follow reviews and invest in them, Recently, there are some ICO scams, so be careful guys when you invest.

This can be the reason why google and facebook starts to ban crypto ads mainly those ICO's but not bitcoin ads and other legit crypto's.

Could be an opportunity for the crypto industry to self-regulate.

Just because crypto is de-centralised and free from government regulation, doesn't mean that the industry can't regulate themselves..

I don't pretend to be an expert of any kind in the crypto-world or the various concepts and algo's of which crypto incorporates (probably the wrong word)

Other Industries have self regulated in the past and more will do in the future.

What's to stop cryptocurrencies from doing the same.
