Well, sure, if you're hand-soldering every board for a small run instead of having a bunch put together at a fab, then you might as well test-before-solder

A fab would have the resources to build like 100 chip binning machine
but not even bitfury(guess from their calculations its not worthed...but they are screwing the endusers an retailers this way) itself tests the chips so its unlikely.

On a sidenote bitfury chips are cool but a pain to work with, all it takes is a chip to go nuts and it brings the whole chain down.

A1 seems kool but they are not so easy to work with.

pushed a nanofury v0.7 with a Rev.2 chip to 3.5Ghash/sec

V_core is 0.918V~0.92V; some active cooling but notice the error rate!!! only 1.5%


that works out to: 0.92V * 3.0A = 2.76 W

2.76W/3.5Ghash = 0.7886W/Ghash; and this is only a mild overclock. i can go up to ~1.05V, just need more cooling

Yeah - those chips can tolerate some heat, but they really love it when the temperature is in the 60-70C range

with 2 of them on a good hub (Amazon Basics with 4A power brick providing solid 5.0V) and 2 on a crappy hub (very similar design, 2.5A crappy power brick providing 4.4V under load). Power usage - 1.2-1.4A.

And as for convenience - I think this is among the easiest (if not The Easiest) device to enter the hashing world - it is literally just plug-and-play ... it doesn't get any more easier than that ... Or if someone has any ideas - please share!

The NanoFury 6 is almost plug-and-play - you still need to download the software and set it up right.  Purely as a thought:

The way big miners solve this is typically by including a Raspberry Pi that acts as both the host to the miner as well as presenting an interface to the miner to a terminal user, often over a network connection.  That's well outside feasibility for smaller miners.

What smaller miners could do is present themselves as an external drive when first plugged in, with the required files and a setup tool included (optionally with a suggested autoplay that still gets presented to most users), and switch to the actual mining device when setup has concluded; alternatively, present itself as both devices at the same time.

If done, it would truly become 'plug and play'.  The reason why it's just a thought: the storage required - it tends to exceed the available space on most microcontrollers, and external storage is relatively expensive in both price and board real estate.  So for a fairly small bit of convenience (people who use these do tend to be fairly tech-savvy), it adds quite a bit of a burden on the design and price.  Distributors would be better off providing top notch service by having a web page dedicated to setting it up and/or including the necessary files and documentation on media included with any shipment.

That's for the 6-chip device, or at 15GH that's roughly 2.5GH per chip.

Update regarding the DIY kits - I had several people asking for the schematic and design files as well. Those are available to the manufacturers at this time (and please get in touch with me if you'd like to become one)

However, as the previous DIY kits were also used as a proof-of-concept/capabilities for future manufacturers I'll add those to the 5+panels deal. And since I have just over 5 panels - there will be one such person.
So - if you order 5 or more panels I'll throw in also the schematic and all design files.

Aside from that they will be going to github in a few months (which was by request of the few manufacturers who have sponsored the development so far).
