I think Russia might be able to perform much better in this year world cup as they are the host nation for this world cup tournament, the home crowd advantage will surely be able to cheer up and boost the morale of the whole Russia team when they are falling behind their opponent during the match.

Collectively they haven’t been very good in international games at all and that’s where I see the problem of early elimination in my opinion and I also see the knockout round as the time they are going to be eliminated.

Quarter finals sounds like too much for a team that isn't even in the top 20 of the FIFA world ranking. Just last year Russia won 3 out 11 official matches, that's just terrible. This year they've lost both friendly games (against France and Brazil). So, if I were Stanislav Cherchesov, I'd be extremely worried, I think just advancing to the knockout stage would be a big achievement for Russia.

Moreover, in my previous post, I forgot about very big problems in the defensive line. Ignashevich and brothers Vasiliy and Alexey Berezutskiy finished playing for the National team, current best defenders Georgiy Dzhikia and Victor Vasin got injured, so there is still no clearance in the issue who will play as CBs and what line-up Cherchesov will use. The most probable option is Kutepov-Granat-Kudryashov, but tell me, does anybody believe these players have good chances to restrict Salah at first and then Cavani and Suarez?

What I think is, Germany or Brazil have more potential of winning this world cup because they have many tough players in their teams. If we just count skills, then it is doubtless that Brazil comes at the top, then comes Germany. Though Russia has the skill to beat many other teams but it won’t be a piece of cake for it to grab the trophy from above mentioned teams. Let’s see what happens.

Yeah, I agree with you mate. Playing in European league has its down turns I guess. Because of huge salaries, most of the time ego's clashes even though they are playing in one flag. They have to think that they are representing their country in this World Cup and its should be a honor. Step aside their animosity their bickering and their pride and don't carry it over here because this is very different. Not much money involved but glory that you can bring to your home country.

If what you said was true than Spain players would be the most effected there is no fierce rivalry than theirs, plus the demand for separation has already split the players but when they're playing under a national flag they unite as one. I don't see any issue why the Brazil players will fail to unite and play under one flag and as one unit. They're a classy unit and if they can get their act together they'll unstoppable.

What I think is, Germany or Brazil have more potential of winning this world cup because they have many tough players in their teams. Russia is a good team.. but they don't have what it takes to win the world cup. So let's concentrate on Germany and Brazil. Let's compare these two teams. For the attack, it is going to be Thomas Müller / André Schürrle vs Neymar / Douglas Costa. Defense will be Jérôme Boateng / Shkodran Mustafi vs Dani Alves / Thiago Silva. At least on paper, Brazil looks stronger.

I see more potential in Portugal than Croatia.

The problem with Portugal is that they are overly dependent on one individual. Croatia is a more balanced team. Also the recent matches indicate that the Croatian players are in much better form when compared to the top Portuguese players.

I think you little bit overestimate Ronaldo's role. No doubt, he is the leader and the best player, but if you ask me who is the most important person in their team, I will name Fernando Santos. He managed to reveal every players' best qualities 2 years ago in France and built not bright, but very strong in defense team with a great spirit to fight for each other (which resembled me of Greece from 2004 and current Simeone's Atletico). Moreover, Ronaldo is already 33, he doesn't seem to be as good in the issue of winning games alone as it used to be even 2 years ago, so I suppose their National Team's success much more depends on the result of Santos work connected to tactical issues and team chemistry.

As for the comparing of Portugal and Croatia, I think there is something like 50/50. I agree that Croatia has better and more sophisticated players, but it didn't help them on Euro and I consider Santos to be much more skillful coach than Zlatko Dalic.

I totally second the opinion that Fernando Santos is the key part of the Portugal team. He is the only Portugal manager that was able to change the all-out attack approach of their team while not stopping their attacking possibilities completely (like Carlos Queiroz did in 2010. tournament)
However, I also have to support the opinion that Portugal depends on Ronaldo too much, and not without the reason. Besides him being an absolutely incredible and unstoppable player, let's just take a look back to Portugal - Croatia game on Euro. Croatia was actually the only team in that tournament that totally outplayed Portugal. However, they haven't been able to make better chances in 90 minutes of the game simply because a lot of players had to stay back because of that one guy. Without him, it would be something like 2, or 3-0. It was only when Croatian manager was late with changes and failed to replace overly exhausted Strinic that Portugal made that one chance in the game they were waiting for and scored. I totally bravo that patience. Amazing, especially for Portugal.

I've already written about it. I consider Egypt to have more chances on advancing from group A and let me try to explain again why.

1) An aggregated skill of players seems to be nearly the same for both teams, but I consider Egyptians to be better due to having such personalities as Salah, Hegazy, Elmohamady, Elneny, Sobhi, and some others, who have enough experience of playing in best European leagues.

2) I've mentioned in this post the limit on foreign players in Russia and explained, why it has terrible affection on the motivation of our players.

3) Stanislav Cherchesov is a weak and stubborn coach. Tomorrow he is going to announce the list of 35 players, who will prepare for the World Cup, and I am afraid there won't be Igor Denisov (the captain of current Russian Champion) and Artyom Dzyuba (one of the best forwards in the Spring part the season) in it. Every football fan in Russia knows Cherchesov doesn't like both of them and can ignore them just because of personal antipathy. I suppose smart and experienced Hector Cuper is much more skillful and sophisticated coach and he will manage to find and exploit weaknesses in Cherchesov's tactic.

I admire your objectivity. I also think that Egypt should have better chances. But I also think they don't have any. Unfortunately, if the chances are close, which they are, I am sure FIFA will take care of the hosts, as usually they do (just remember South Korea as the most obvious example).

I was curious about why Russia doesn't have a better team at the moment. Russia always had amazing players, and your league is currently very strong which should be a good basis for producing strong quality players. However, your explanation from point 2. (thank you for that) might be just what I was looking for. Still, the league is pretty good, your clubs are performing well in Europe and I think Russian national squad should be better.

The omission of Denisov and Dzyuba would be a mistake, I agree.
