refereeing decisions that can be changed after seeing the video shows on the edge of the field, in my opinion, isn't good enough.

This video assistance isn't a bad idea and it's essential to make the game fair, to avoid vampire bites and penalties when children falling down.
However, i dislike the fact that the referee has to move to verify himself every fault, this is killing the game, normally the dedicated referee should see the video and take the decision everytime it is required (or not).

Kinda hassle for the referee in reviewing that and pausing the match every time they will review it and however will the goal if ever will count if ever they will review and call something. I think this wont work on football match

FIFA needs to modify this presidential system into a parliamentarian one (or a roman one maybe ?)
A little bit serious, the assistant referee should have more power since he can see unbiased images and can verify it many time... The actual system is a pure failure and killing the game...

Anyway, Russia is lasting too much, this is getting strange. I will play very close attention to the Uruguay match. Uruguay should smash Russia, they are superior. Unless they underperform big time like Spain, it should be a 3-0 for Uruguay, maybe 2-0 if Russia is once again being insanely annoying with the defense.

There was no penalty there. Both the players were involved in some pulling and all.. but that was not enough for a penalty. Now compare this to the Serbia vs Switzerland match. Serbs were denied a penalty, even after Mitrovic was wrestled to the ground (in WWF style) by two Swiss players.

yeah, I think the fourth official should do the the on-field review and make the final call, I mean, he's the reserve referee in case the main ref gets injured or something...but all in all, I do think the VAR needs some tweaking, it's far from being the perfect solution.

Russia is being favored like S.Korea in 2002 was being favored. In fact if I remember correctly the referee from Ecuador was suspended from soccer activity after blatantly favoring S.Korea against Italy in 2002. I am sure though that the referee who will favor Russia won't be suspended,(I just love the double standard of FIFA). Anyway back to world cup, I think we would see in the semi finals, France, England, Croatia and Brazil.

Croatia can get to finals too, they have easier way to finials then Belgians and Brazilians, winner from that game will have to play against winner from France and Uruguay and both are tough opponents. Croatia against Russia and winner from that game plays against winner from Sweden and England. Can Russia surprise once again in this championship and make a win against Croatia? I believe everything is possible in football, and final game can be Uruguay vs England or Brazil vs Croatia, easier way to finials is for England, Brazil France Belgia and Uruguay are much better teams then Russia Croatia England and Sweden.
Maybe we will see more draw games and penalties in the end, that's football you never know what will happen until last minutes.

Croatia realistically have a great opportunity to advance at least to semi-final, they have a lot of quality players who are capable of winning against Russia. But fact that Russia is host and that has a historic opportunity to play semi-final of World Cup will make this game very interesting, I bet they will play as if their lives depend on it.

I would like to see Croatia-England and France-Brazil in semi-final, however since this World Cup is full of surprises it is possible that there will be some unexpected results in next stage.

^  Belgium could surprise everybody tho.  They have a really good squad that's mostly underrated.  And their match vs Japan showed how mentally strong they are imo.  I just don't think Brazil can push them around...

I really hope Belgium wins against Brazil, but I will have to miss this match. My girlfriend booked a table at a restaurant while we're playing :-/

Brasil looks better to me more complete like a team however Belgium midfielders are able to dominate game.Very interesting game but i bet for Brasil because Belgium defense are making to much mistakes Belgium lost two goals last game it was possible to came back against japan but will be hard to repeat that against Brasil

Croatia is my dark horse from beginning so i think they will qualify

Russia are playing Croatia, and Uruguay are playing Spain. The only time they will play each other is if they both make it to the final, and that is (probably/possibly) unlikely. I can see Croatia beating Russia, possibly in extra time or on penalties after a low scoring game, the Uruguay France game is a tough one to predict, but will go for France to sneak a win.

Edinson Cavani who already scored 3 goals in this tournament will miss match against France due to injury. It's likely that he will be replaced by Stuani in starting XI. But I hope that they can beat France. Uruaguay is one of my favourite teams since World Cup 2010.

Uruguay need to stop France from counter attacks. Both Vounter attacks and set pieces were strong in this Tournament and funny thing is possesion do not matter no more as you can see five of most dominant teams in the World Cup have now gone out of the tournament, including three major teams.

I never saw any of your posts condemning the Serbia vs Switzerland match, in which the referees acted in a very shameful manner. The Swiss Muslim players even displayed racist symbols in the field and they were let off. This is what sounds like double standards to me. And now suddenly you are going ballistic when there is no real issue?

Stopping the game for VAR ruins the pace of the match.
In my opinion, VAR should be limited on watching for potential cards and penalties and should implement it on any time without stopping the game, whatever be the initial judgment of the referee.

Oh I completely agree on Belgium's defence during the game with Japan, but they looked much better against England.
Carrasco had a really bad match and wasn't too happy with Kompany's performance either.

Now they're going to put Fellaini up from the start, which is good IMO. De Bruyne will also get a more prominent role, haven't seen too much from him during this World Cup.

Belgium can definitely win, but the odds are in favour of Brazil. Still placed a bet on Belgium though.

Sweden v England looks like it will be a low scoring game, Russia v Croatia could be worth a punt. Personally I'd be looking at the other side of the draw, both those matches should be goal fests, especially the Brazil v Belgium game. These are my guesses.

France 2 Uruguay 3
Brazil 2 Belgium 2 (Belgium to go through on penalties)
Russia 1 Croatia 2
Sweden 1 England 1 (England to win in extra time)

I have France to beat Uruguay in regulation time @ 2.05 and Belgium to win or draw vs Brazil @ 1.8. To me France are the biggest contenders to win the world cup in Russia and I would place them before Brazil. I think they will have no problems to outclass and defeat Uruguay without the need of any extra time and penalties. Brazil and Belgium will be a very interesting match to watch. 2 of the best teams of the tournament with some of the best attacking formations. I am rooting for Belgium but I have the feeling the match will end in a draw and there will be extra time in this one. I also like both teams to score and FT Draw. Good luck everyone and have fun

Cavani is one of the most important players of Uruguay, there is no doubt that his team will be significantly weakened in today game. France have some very good players, but one is showed true art of football in game against Argentina - Mbappe. I would like to see how he will play today, can he repeat his last game?

In my opinion this should be a fairly equal match, but I still give France a small advantage just because there is no Cavani.
