Bitmain

When will the S-1 upgrade kits be available???

Why an S1 upgrade kit  Huh

The only thing you can use from an S1 is a fan and 2 metal brackets, maybe.

Because they said there would be.

Don't forget the controller board with Wi-Fi built in. As well as the large inner aluminum heatsinks.

S3+ and S1 Upgrade kit are for sales

Only Available at http://www.bitmaintech.com

Bitmain now announce the S3+ which is a revised version of S3 running stably at 453GH/s (frequency=225 MHz), while consumes 355 Watt power at the wall. Most of miners will be able to run up to 500GH/s but not guaranteed.

S3+ for sales shipping starts on September 20th or earlier

S3 is a great success product and almost sold out. The sale of S3+ is 0.58 BTC each including the international shipping, which starts on September 20th, 2014 or earlier. Sales open in the Beijing Time tonight 22:00 (UCT+8:00 Time Zone).
We strongly believe it is best choice of mining bitcoin for both the mining farm and the home miners.

S3+ Specifications:
Hash Rate: 453 GH/s±5% with great OC potential
Power Consumption: 355 Watt at the wall
Power Efficiency: 0.78J/GH on wall
Power Supply: 12V DC
Size:  331 mm x 137 mm x 160 mm
Fans: Two 14038 fans mounted on both front and back ends
Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 35 °C

S1 Upgrade Kit for sales shipping starts on September 20th or earlier

The sale of S1 Upgrade Kit is 0.46 BTC each including international shipping, which starts on September 20th or earlier. Sales open in the Beijing Time tonight 22:00 (UCT+8:00 Time Zone).

S1 Upgrade Kit allows global loyal customers who own S1 to spend the cheapest cost to achieve the best performance: Used S1 will be upgraded to 453 GH/s while consumes only 355 Watt power at the wall.

The time of deployment is a significant factor in the global mining market. The design for heat sink of S1 is customized but compatible with the hashing board of S3. Hence we can finalize the S1 upgrade solution by a surprising speed, to maximize the mining life time for used S1 for each end-customer.

Here customers will get a “yes” for the question that can we recycle the used stuffs from used S1: control board, heat sink, fan, holder… Remove and Replace two units of hash boards and one unit of adapter board only.

Update
S1 Upgrade Kit includes:
1. 2 units of hash boards
2. 2 unit of mini customized heat sinks
3. 4 units of white plastic brackets
4. 8 spring screws
5. 1 bag of thermal paste
6. 1 fan including the fan's cover and screws

Specifications:
Hash Rate: 453 GH/s±5% with great OC potential
Power Consumption: 355 Watt at the wall
Power Efficiency: 0.78 J/GH on wall
Power consumption: This figure depends on the PSU efficiency, ambient temperature and the accuracy of the power meters.

Notes:
1)   S1 Upgrade Kit is designed for customers who own S1. Please be careful to place an order before you are sure you have or will have S1 in hands.
2)   S1 Upgrade Kit is nonrefundable after purchase.

a month away till the next batch? The prices would be good if it shipped in the next 2 weeks, but 4 weeks away the network difficulty will be about 30% more than it is today

todays price of 0.66 / 1.30 = 0.51BTC would be a more fair price

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

I'm disappointed by the upgrade kit. Since you're replacing the boards, you're only getting ~273 additional GH/s for .46 BTC. Yes, it will be more efficient, so there's that.

S3+ has much more potential to over clock as the PCB design is revised.

Nice Bitmain!  Great upgrade opportunity.

However, to be reasonably feasible, the price for the S1 upgrade kit should be more in line with a price of ~0.3495btc.  Any coupon options to previous buyers of S1s?

I agree.  An undervolted S1 getting 140 gh/s is closer in power efficiency to the S3, but the net pickup of an upgrade kit is only 313 gh/s...for .46 BTC 37 days out.  I'll pass.

@allcoinminer, No haven't gone that far. While trying the different controller cables and power I did feel the heatsink and no matter what I tried the right hand blade did not get warm.

Right hand side with the ethernet port facing you.

Problem
Took delivery of 2 x S3 miners from batch 2. Out of the box one works fine the other only shows chain 1 as working.

[im]https://i.imgur.com/b593NCz.png[/img]

Things I've tried

  • Tried 5 different CX750 power supplies
  • Updated to latest firmware (Bitmain support said do this)
  • Removed and refitted cables from controller to blades
  • Swapped the 2 cables from controller to blades round
  • Used combinations of all 4 6 pin power sockets, 2 front, 2 rear and other combinations

Nothing I have tried has worked. Bitmain suggested the firmware update and I've had no other replies from them Sad

Not sure how removing the heatsinks and replacing the paste is going to help?

Any help appreciated Smiley

In your case reapplying thermal paste will not help.
It seems like your one of the blade is not even powered.
Have you checked for any pcb/pcb component missing/damages in that blade?
First do below steps:
Steps:
Disconnect the the faulty blade from the control board.
Unplug the cable which connects to the controller from working Blade. Unplug it from the controller side.
Connect it to the place where the faulty blades cable connected.
Now check whether the good blade still works.

If not working, your controller is damaged. Confirm it by swapping the controller from another working S3.
    {
      If not working, Try swapping the control cable and again not working, your did something wrong in this step or I have no cue. Contact bitmaintech.
      If working, send you control board to RMA
    }
If working, you now disconnect the cable from blade and connect to the faulty blade.
    {
      If working, Remove the control cable from the good blade side and connect the cable to the faulty blade.
           {
             If working, swap the control cable.
                    {
                      If working, your controller is damaged and send it for RMA.
                      If not working, current control cable is damaged.
                    }
             If not working, Your current blade(faulty blade) is damaged and send it for RMA
           }
      If not working, swap control cable
             {
               If working,  the earlier control cable is damaged. Confirm if by using a working cable from another S3.
                       {
                         If working on confirmation,  Get a new control cable.
                         If not working, your blade and cable is damaged. RMA blade and Control cable
                        }
               If not working, your faulty blade is damaged and RMA it. may confirm it by connecting good blade alone here.
              }
    }

*During all the above steps we are only connecting one blade, good or bad.
**Swap cable means, take out the connected control cable and leave it on your desk and connect with the other cable already on table.

OK, So I swapped the controller cables around.

Looking from the back of the S3 (where the ethernet port is).

1st try: Put left hand controller cable in right hand blade, other controller cable unplugged = bleeped and fans going full blast and wouldn't boot up
2nd try: Put right hand controller cable in left hand blade, other controller cable unplugged = fans going full blast and wouldn't boot up
3rd try: Put right hand controller cable in left hand blade, put left hand controller in right hand blade = booted up but showed only chain #1 @ 206-210GH/s
4th try: Left cables as the S3 was delivered =  booted up but showed only chain #1 @ 206-210GH/s

I'm no expert but it seems that the controller might be faulty?

It seems the right hand controller on the board doesn't make the blade its connected to work.

I'm not happy taking the controller out of the other working S3 to test it, just in case I end up with 2 faulty S3 miners.

The mail/support options seem to have dissapeared from the Bitmain website login?

Should I just email them asking for a replacement controller?

Just placed my order for the S1 upgrade kit, by the time the upgrade arrives the S1's will be well past their best so this will give them a new lease of life.

Can't wait to get them upgraded.

S1 upgrade kit...nice but why should i purchase two kits if i have only one S1? Bitmain, maybe you should rething this with two kits.
And other question: on the picture of upgraded S1 ( is it on the picture ? ) there are two fans. Is it mandatory to have two fans on upgrade version of S1 - actually it will be S3 Wink

I did raise an RMA and did get asked to do exactly that Sad

Remove all the parts from my working S3 to test what is broken. They want me to swap controller and then each blade from the working S3 miner I have to the faulty one.

So "what if" doing this fu*ks my working S3?

They didn't ask me to photograph each step, suppose I had better take pics in case they ask and I have to do it all again.

I have 8 Antminer S3 coupons.
