Ethereum is a platform, ether is in fact a currency. Why are you claiming it's not? Ethereum is a decent platform, there are definitely others out there with better tech (neo, ada, eos etc.). What the others do not have is the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance. A network of devs, promoters, businesses that work together towards mass adoption. It's why eth is no 2 right now. It might change with eos, though. That is if they decide to put a part of the gross amounts they received in the ICO towards creating a similar alliance for developing the ecosystem.
