Yup it becomes a jumping point for fake initial offering but there is a different solution for that. There should be some sort of fake analyzer and i know that it will come very soon. The Ethereum is a protocol that allows anyone to create their own tokens under the ethereum platform and they are called erc20 tokens. You are right it is not a created to become a currency but is the most adopted protocol out there and the company is working on developing ethereum flaws.
