Elon Musk’s SpaceX wants to put up billboards in space paid for with Dogecoin

The space travel company SpaceX, owned by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk, has plans to launch advertising pieces into space, with payments in the cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE).

According to an article by Tecnoblog, SpaceX has partnered with Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) with the aim of launching a mission to the Moon in 2022, with payments also in cryptocurrency.

The association’s ambitious plans also include the installation of “billboards” on satellites in Earth orbit, to be paid in DOGE.

According to the CEO of GEC, Samuel Reid, the companies will develop a satellite dedicated to this purpose, the CubeSat, which will be equipped with a “selfie stick” and a screen, which will carry advertisements, logos and other advertising pieces.

It is reported that the satellite will be launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in 2022, the same one that is expected to reach the Moon. The satellite, once in orbit, will broadcast the images of the ads live on YouTube and Twitch.

Once installed, “Anyone” will be able to buy a space on the space billboard, with payment in cryptocurrencies for specific tokens. There will be five token modes, two for screen pixel coordinates, one for brightness, one for color, and one for display time. Reid adds:

    “I’m trying to get something that democratizes access to space and allows for decentralized participation. Fortunately, people don’t spend money on something inappropriate, insulting or offensive.”

Despite this, the executive did not give any estimate of the cost of advertising in the space, leaving the price of the tokens up in the air. There is also no date for the launch of the space mission. In addition to publicity, a SpaceX mission could take works of art into space, also without many details of the initiative.

It makes investors feel coins are more real assets and won't disappear in the air.
