I've got an idea, lets create a group of people who's job it is to figure out methods of increasing the population of arctic foxes and then lets ask them for an unbiased opinion on whether or not the population of arctic foxes ought to be higher than it is now.

Climate researchers could be put to useful purposes. 

They could be put to studying the effect on the environment of trash in national parks.  This would involve picking up all the trash.

They could be put to work studying the dietary habits of polar bears close up.  I think to really understand the dietary habits, it would be about right to get 6-36" inches away from them immediately before they start feeding.

Now for the fat dumb and lazy climate researchers who want to sit in front of their computers and not go out in the big vast Gaia, there is the vast polluted Internet, which is globally warming up.  It's actually getting positively hot.  And this has brought massive virtual pollution in the form of spam. 
That is a big job, clearing the spam off the internet.  But if you just connect the dots for these guys .... CO2::SPAM .... they'll get it....

Plus, climate researchers should be cheap and easy to hire.  No gas allowance, no airflight to conferences, no health care for children (they shouldn't HAVE children of course), one light bulb for every dozen or so of them in their hot, sweaty unairconditioned cubicles...

I can't even fathom the amount of free time someone must have to come up with such absurdities...  

More to the point, I'm also of the opinion that Reddit (or rather one of the subs, I imagine) shouldn't have banned climate change deniers outright; instead, they should strive to win the argument. But I'm curious as to how many people here are climate change deniers... I think I'll create a poll thread to find out, if there isn't one already.

What happens if you leave a hot water bottle in a cold room? The water in the bottle becomes cold because the heat energy is dissipated and transferred into the cold . The same thing happens with the atmosphere. The supposed argument that global warming makes is heat from humans rises and is trapped in the atmosphere.

The problem is that every 24 hr period the earths surface is cooled by being in the dark and away from the sun for roughly 12 hours and the heat they want you to think heat is amassing is actually dissipating and making global warming impossible.

Neither you or Anonymint has an arguable point.  He would argue that the Religious Warmer's co2/lag argument is "this time it's different", which is not impossible but a recognized logical problem.

No I argued the irrefutable point that they have presented no falsifiable science, because they are just picking models out of their ass assuming some variables matter but not others, finding one of many possible statistical correlations, and declaring that to be cause & effect.

Maybe one day you will learn what science is.

Agreed in principle, but not in relative culpability and sampling confidence interval.

Millions of years of ice core data showing that temperature rises then CO2 lags by up to 600 - 1000 years is a correlation. Whether temperature causes C02 to rise is not proven by that correlation. However, it certainly rules out that C02 rises have caused temperature to rise.

And there is a theory that makes a great amount of sense because it is probably the only possibility, which is that as temperature rises the oceans warm and then the oceans release the C02 in orders-of-magnitude more quantity than humans ever could.

And the temperature rises correlate with sunspot activity, so it is also quite reasonable to make the theory that the sun is what modulates temperature on Earth.

That is not proof. But I don't need to prove anything. There are two things being postulated:

A. Climate change is happening

B. Climate change is caused by humans

People who question B. but accept A. still get brushed as "climate change deniers".

There has been climate change even before humans existed. Yet humans and client change are automatically linked together, the first causes the last. No nuances are possible.

I see the same trick in other areas. People who oppose the European Union are "against Europe". So you're against a whole continent if you oppose the EU.

Not only that but the weak solar flux in the last 15 years or so, and the lack of sunspots, has solar scientists publishing warnings that we may have a 'little ice age coming'.  The point to the one in the 17th century, as the only other time we know of which is similar.

That's huge, even if admittedly a possibility, since the Earth's population is so much higher today.
