Any ideas why keeps shut down every 5 hours?
What shuts down
Some more info dude os product software which you are using?

Yeah sure! Sorry I was in hurry just dropped in the question.

So it's a Hex8A1 running directly from a TP-Link.

In the first few days it was runing fine, but the last 3 deays it keeps shuting down about every 5 hours and I have to switch it down and up to get it runing.

The boards stops working and I got this message from api log:

[Firmware Version] => 20140329
cgminer: 4_1_0_5ed45a0
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

Edit: Just ssh-d in. Cgminer starts but don't recognize the board.

Lsusb?
Try setting default to 8
Directly into tplink?

Use hub in between for sure
dmesg will show you a lot of usb errors. Tplink does not like slow usb devices Cry
Just put a usb hub in between that is all
You can do folowing
1. Throw away tplink power adaprter
2. Buy usb 2.0 powered hub
3. Throw away usb hub power adapter
4. Rib of the power jack of hub and connect it to your psu 5V - take power for the hub from PSU which you are using to power the miner
5. Connect both usb cables of tplink into that hub power and data
6. Plug in there your hex board
7. Forget  about issues;)

Strange but I'll give it a try!

Thanks Loshia!
It is well known atheros chipset USB bug dude Wink When it happens you are lost. Only reboot can solve the situation, because usb is fucked up completely
Trust me...
And make sure you are using single ground from your PSU only. That is the key Wink
There is a slight chance your usb cable to be faulty also....

PS: as temporary solution you can
vi /usr/bin/cgminer-monitor.sh

find at the bottom something like:

    echo "`date`: cgminer hang starting" >> /tmp/monitor.log
    mv /tmp/cm_old.log /tmp/cm.log
    exit 0;

change it to

    echo "`date`: cgminer hang starting" >> /tmp/monitor.log
    mv /tmp/cm_old.log /tmp/cm.log
    reboot
    exit 0;

And make sure cron is running

But this is temp solution only

Not he chips dude the setup and the software Wink

Any way cgminer-api stats | grep En

Would give you how many engines are working
it is normal to have some dead ones. That is the chip quality
so check this and then we will talk again ok Wink
And besides i am not undervolting as you can see Cheesy
Post your cores count voltage and clock and we will do the math it is easy Cheesy

I have some HEX8A1 130 and I was planing to buy more mining power,  and now I see one technobit web page the Avalon Gen 3 based miners,  and I dont know which one is better, if this one or the hex8a1.  The price is lower but the hash power is lower too, maybe the difference is the power needed.  I dont know which one to buy.

I don't think the avalon chips are better.
+ if you have already HEX8A1 and you are happy with it, continue with the A1 Smiley

Hey marto74,

Would you care to comment on the quotes below? Particularly, aopa38's claim that different batches will perform differently? I understand ASIC chips have grades and h/w performance will vary between units; But do you grade your h/w and how is it distributed to your customers? Do some customers get favouritism over better performing h/w? How does one get the cream of the crop h/w?

aopa38's 2nd claim is to run the HEX8A1 at 270GHs. Presumably this is Turbo, Turbo Mode. Is it recommended to run these units at 1050V? I know the numbers are possible, i've tried them, but the results are some what disconcerting that I ran my units at a lower V and F and still manage to get just under 260Ghs. Of cause I'll be happier running them at 270GHs if you say its not a problem.

I'd like to see what h/w error rates you are getting when you run them at 270GHs. Please do tell Smiley

Technobit advertises 260GHs "Hash rate - about 260  Gh/s overclocked in turbo mode" (http://technobit.eu/index.php?id_product=63&controller=product&id_lang=1) and you are saying "270  Gh/s overclocked in turbo mode"? So is this like turbo, turbo mode?

I hate to be a troll but I am really not; Cause really, you are just exaggerating the facts to make financial gain. That's dishonest Angry Prove I'm a troll and show me pics of you running those boards at 270GHs with min. H/W errors. Or you can tell me what freq and a V settings you are using to achieve those Hashing rates.

Maybe it's cooler in Canada now then it it is in Australia. But iirc, it's Spring there atm?

Cheers,
QG
It depends on which batch of boards you get from Martin at Technobit. The difference in the A1 chip between batches in particular is quite big.

As for settings, 270 / 1050 will normally get you 270GH/s although in the past we have had some boards which can do it with less voltage.

We run over 200 Coincraft boards in our converted warehouse with an ambient temperature of 28 C. They have run stable since the start of March. I'll update the thread with CGMINER stats ASAP.

Cheers,
QG

The diference is comming from the diference in chips.
We do not favor any body in terms of boards performance.
What we do is to check on a test software how many engines are working.
If there are more than 20 dead engines on a board it is stoped and returned for repair.
Also if there is a single chip with less than 25 engines we stop it again

Thanks the question!

Hub is here. Yesterday I've restarted it and working since then.

Now i won't touch until it stops, so I can post what dmesg shows, and I'll make the hub then.

You had a good carma, the miner is afraid.. Smiley
It will not stop Wink
Ops i have not said it Lips sealed
That is how tplink works when done things are done right Wink Non stop since last cgminer upgrade
