Its sounds like some people were mining on forks. If you loose coins after you re-sync (restart client) then thats probably because for the last bit you were mining on a forked chain getting blocks on that chain. When you reconnect to the proper blockchain those coins disappear because nobody on the right blockchain has confirmed them. Happened to me a few times, its part of mining. Here is a tip. If you are solo mining watch the block # in the console window. Make sure it matches the current block numbers on the pools. It will be obvious if you are forked.

I shit you not, this pool is run by some of the most competent people I've seen run a pool thus far. They know how to run a pool; there was just too much load.

Currently the balances aren't 100% accurate. Blocks are still being processed.
