I know some of us have some stuff planned for promotion once wallet is out. (Remember that marketing fund?).

It is somewhat important to time it well. So after wallet, some good things are coming beyond the wallet itself. And that's without talking about the fact most cryptonews will pick up on it due to the nature of the innovation.

In my opinion there's too much preasurre on the new wallet, but new wallet needs time (in this case, it should have all the time it needs) and crypto people are very impatient. It would be nice to do something instead of just waiting for new wallet to appear and lift us to the moon

"Don't put all eggs in one basket" they say.

I could do something, as I've mentioned before, like thread redesign (using mockups as a preview instead of real screenshots might be a dirty trick, but could work) and promotional public-oriented faucet. But... I think we need to get a small update for existing wallet first. Yesterday I gave some PRT as a birthday gift to my less tech-savvy friend and I had to pray that his wallet would sync up and I wouldn't have to explain him how to use particle.conf file. It synced! So yay for that. He was also very excited, while having no idea, what is this and what to do with it. I told him that I'm giving him The Future

Cute personal story aside, I propose a couple of small tweaks to current wallet:

1. create particle.conf with default addnode list if the file doesn't exist
2. change the dashboard image to something newer with a hint that new wallet is under development and add simple links to the website/thread/forum/twitter/facebook/whatever
3. maybe a first time popup with a couple of sentences about synchronization? how long will it last? can a wallet receive PRT while it syncing? can user close wallet while it syncs?

(1 and 3 should be in the new wallet too)

So what does this "win"?

1. less new users lost because of syncing issues
2. more new/existing (who updated) users attached to PRT because of curiosity + increased community activity, since "Oh, now new transactions, might as well check the PRT forum"
3. less new users scared by mysterious syncing

Does that make sense?

It's not about the new wallet itself really. It's about promoting something that is available instead of promoting something that is to come. There is already a lot of "good things to come" in the crypto world. We want to promote for something that's there.

I'm not suggesting promoting an non-existing new wallet. My proposed changes are oriented in to not losing new users, hooking them and existing ones to PRT and livening up community a bit. Since, a time from NOW and NEW WALLET is pretty blurry, why not get things moving and motivate moonmoon more while getting off some of the preassure off his back.

So... What about GUIDES? I've already hinted about them in one of my wallet mockups, so lets get in to details. We could have a subforum in bitparticle.com for guides, FAQ and various tutorials related to crypto currencies and Particle in partic(le)ular. Tagged with [Beginner], [Advanced], [PRO]. This is where anyone with knowledge of crypto and english language could join in and do something useful! Would need an unlocked post edit function (maybe for a contributor/mod user group or users with x posts). Could even earn some SEO advantage too. Particle video tutorials!

Another fun activity could be doing a giveaway in facebook or twitter with codename "Meet the Particle". Idea is to attract completely new people to crypto and PRT (obviously). Make a nice image with a promo-y text "Pssst. Have you tried crypto? Want some?" (like drug dealers in the dark corners of streets do) and SUPER SIMPLE instructions in description about how to download a wallet, find receive address and post it in the comments to receive 100 PRT. Twist - gotta share this with your friends, so "you and your friends could try sending PRT to see how easy and fast this currency of the future is"!

For this we need to tweak existing wallet. Maybe already add link to GUIDES subforum in it.

Over the next few days (loose few) I will write up a how-to Particle.  I will post it for review...  It will be generic.  Any specifics for linux/Windows/Mac will have to be added.

The problem is its not really a premium domain, its not a keyword or EMD domain...its just kinda a word fragment...   It has Ion in it, but I can't really think of how one would work this into any kind of branding...

Joke aside, try entering ition.net in godaddy search box. It should show ition.net is a premium name on godaddy. I don't know the exact definition of their premium names, but this is one of them.
Anyway, at current prices PRT/BTC/USD - this is a bargain for any name (short like this one, but to makes some sense). If you calculate it is only $113.

Well, either that or I can at least hope someone has had a similar issue and figured out how to make it work.  

By the way, the same thing happened to me with Dime, but after adding a few nodes and waiting for an hour or so - it confirmed. Well, this time it didn't help.
