Hi Guy, I want to consult with all of you about N-factor. I have tried with N-factor = 14, N = 32768 in Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz. Result is segmentation fault. I tried to change it to N-factor = 4, N = 32. it is working normally. My question is what is begining of N-factor should we pickup for Vertcoin. I want to prevent GPUs and ASICs, but when I choose N = 32768, it prevents CPUs too. Nfactor N Memory 4 32 4 kB 5 64 8 kB 6 128 16 kB 7 256 32 kB 8 512 64 kB 9 1024 128 kB <--- Current Litecoin using. 10 2048 256 kB 11 4096 512 kB 12 8192 1 MB 13 16384 2 MB 14 32768 4 MB <-- My Core i5 cannot mine already. 15 65536 8 MB 16 131072 16 MB 17 262144 32 MB 18 524288 64 MB 19 1048576 128 MB 20 2097152 256 MB 21 4194304 512 MB 22 8388608 1 GB 23 16777216 2 GB 24 33554432 4 GB 25 67108864 8 GB 26 134217728 16 GB 27 268435456 32 GB 28 536870912 64 GB 29 1073741824 128 GB 30 2147483648 256 GB

Don't aim to prevent GPU mining.. If you can keep out the ASICs you've still done us all a great service, and it'll take time for the GPU miners to catch up since cgminer is unsupported for scrypt.

I'm still thinking about that. Or Should I just start at N = 2048, then let's change N every 8 - 12 months for preventing ASICs but still give opportunities for GPUs to catch up ?

Nope, I'm using scrypt like Litecoin but change N from 1024 to (... don't know yet .. please vote ...) and the N will change base on timestamp like Feb 2015 will go up, Augest 2015 will go up again. Not scrypt-jane.

How much physical memory do you have on the i-5 that segmentation faulted?
Does N-Factor=12 or N-Factor=13 work properly?

I tested with N-Factor=4, 9 and 10. it works normally. Right now still testing with N-Factor = 12. I am testing on VM. My VM has RAM 8 GB. My laptop has 16 GB. L1 Cache Size 128 KB L2 Cache Size 512 KB L3 Cache Size 3 MB

I say start with 11. Don't set a specific date for moving to 12+, just do a forced update for the client at a specific block when it looks like ASICs are going to catch up.

YACoin is at an N-factor of 14 already and they don't have any problems with scrypt-jane. I would guess there is something else wrong, as an i5 should be able to manage 4MB of ram without problems. Don't know what Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor is though. Try one of the YAC miners from here, and see if it works: http://yacointalk.com/index.php?topic=264.0

We have 3 servers located in LA, NY, and Amsterdam. Hope, that's will be enough to handle otherwise we need to seek funding for other servers.
