A few things to consider:
1) DigiByte is only going to be PoW. Jared has made infographics stating just how much better it is, and he's not the kind of man to do an about-face. Just go to the DigiByte website, under Blockchain, you'll see "Where does DigiByte fit into the blockchain industry?". So it's not about to become some hybrid with PoS.

2) adding a cap to GPU mining etc would only encourage botnets. Look at VertCoin and why they did their latest algo change.

3) It's not ASICs driving price down, as mentioned the trading volume vs new DigiByte mined, that just doesn't make any sense. People are emotional, as you can see by a large number of the recent posts here. People want news, they wanna be cuddled and wrapped in cotton wool and told "Yeah, good job about your investment, you keep hanging onto those coins!". People forget that the tech is still insanely solid, the dev committed, the vision is there, and the price will eventually follow suit. A wise person with a long term vision would see now is definitely the time to double down on your holdings.

4) Everything takes time, and developers who can assist are more welcome to jump on Telegram and say hi and lend a hand.

5) Algos are already being investigated. Anybody who's been around for more than 5 minutes knows that security and distribution are at the heart of DigiByte. GPU mining will definitely be on the cards, hopefully for a few algos, and CPU mining is being looked at also. PoW though, no staking. Any suggestions or constructive feedback is most welcome, though again Telegram seems to be the place this is being discussed more. We've seen discussions oddly enough in the Marketing channel, as well as the mining channel a few times. Please join us there and say hi.

6) Groestl mining isn't profitable for GPUs, but Skein still isn't too bad. The Baikal miners are definitely better off mining Groestl based coins, as they're roughly 5* the hash power of a GTX1080Ti on Skein, but like 15* the power on Groestl. A bunch of people I know who were mining DigiByte on Groestl are just switching to Skein and that's been fine. Others are mining something else and simply exchanging for DigiByte through Bittrex, Shapeshift, you have a myriad of options (Haha, just not Myriad-Groestl, I made a funny...).

Keep in mind the sky isn't falling, Algo swapping was on the cards for a while now BUT it's a big change and we need to make sure that we choose a good set of Algos so we don't have to fork again a few months down the track. Just look at the DigiByte website, under Roadmap, it's been there a while now and the team are well aware of it.

So hang in there. Mining may be a bit interesting for a couple of months, but, with over 100,000 downloads of the DigiByte Core Wallet since the latest version in April (I think it was April?), Shows there's a LOT of people out there interested in, and using DigiByte. The project isn't about to be abandoned, it's chugging along at a steady pace.

And as always come say hi in Telegram, and if you've got algo suggestions we'd love to hear your reasoning behind suggesting them, along with reasons why they'd be ASIC resistant, and be good for helping spread the security of the DigiByte network.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

What is going on with the sudden myr-groestl network difficulty, it was always between 5000-9000 , now its 22000 to 64000 ...what's up with that? Are there some new myr-groestl Asic's? Or some new batch of Asic's for diffrent algos affecting the overall network? I think the network from every diffrent algo was affected by some procentage of the other networks or something like that? Am i right?

ASIC machines are taking over DGB mining. I hope that announced algo changes will change that and that GPU mining will again be a thing for this coin. We just have to wait until spring...

These algo issues are just annoying. Try not to be the "monday morning quarterback", I'm guessing you didn't predict this either.

The team @DGB has proven over and over their commitment and competency. This should be a relatively simple fix for them.

My 2 options to solve these algo worries.

1) Add masternodes. Think of the functionality added here for all DigiByte services. Point of sale sytems running as a MN giving the vendor another reason to use and support DGB.
2) Merge mine with BTC on sha256. This gets rid of the whiny miners. attn miners: no disrespect, i started as a miner in 2014.

Combined, the above equals being free of "asic anxiety" and a huge value add both in real world functionality as well as marketcap.

Sounds like you started mining at a similar time to me, was it ‘late’ when your hardware eventually arrived?  Tongue

I’m so glad I eventually ended up pointing my miners at DigiByte and continued well after they weren’t even good for that!
I’ve been against the merging of SHA256 in the past but maybe I’m coming round to the idea now.

In its favour, it will most probably improve 51% attack security but this practically ensures centralized mining, perhaps which may be just inevitable though.

SHA256 is the algorithm I started mining DigiByte with, in the true spirit of supporting the project back then.
I held all of them, actually no that’s not true because millions were lost through carelessness, until market forces practically forced me to sell recently in what looked ‘obviously’ like an overbought market.

Before that, fortunately I’d also used the disappointing amount of Bitcoin that had been mined with the same machines to buy DigiByte!
In any case, I’m very happy with the choices that I made.

Getting round to my point which is, I was genuinely supporting DigiByte with my miners and not flooding the coins onto the market and I’m uncertain about perhaps removing this opportunity for others or pulling the carpet out from under the feet of people doing this for the same reason but it could just be that these people don’t really even exist anymore.

I believe the majority of merge mined coins will find their way almost immediately onto the market but as the total volumes involved can’t possibly be driving DGB ‘market perceived value’, this possibly is of little real concern today.
With the emergence of ASICs across the board on DigiByte today, I’m going to guess that we are more vulnerable to a 51% attack than we have been in the past because of this.

The next question is, should we now just leave everything as is and perhaps even allow merged mining on all algos? If we are going to assume that all coins mined today will find their way to market sooner rather than later!

This strategy, I’d imagine will help with volatility because I’d imagine again that now shutting off the supply of DGB hitting the market becomes practically uncontrollable by anyone and is reliant on DigiBytes continuous 1% reduction until mined out in 17 years or so.

Yeah you know what; for now I’ll settle with that’s how it should be unless we can come up with something that could fairly distribute an equal share to all participants, with solid tech engaged insuring that these were real individuals only receiving one ‘fair’ share. Then we should move one of our algorithms to this!  Smiley
