I don't think the blockchain has solved the security problem. There will still be copper leakage. Many hackers use the copper leak to get huge amounts of money. That's what we should be paying attention to. Blockchain technology needs to be updated

I haven't seen anybody post about what would be my biggest worry if I were trying out alternative block chains. I realize this may be perceived as "Gavin is FUD'ding anything that isn't bitcoin!"  (FUD == Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt)  But I think some of you might be forgetting some basic computer security fundamentals in the excitement to be early adopters.

When I first heard about bitcoin, my questions were:

1) Can it possibly work (do the ideas for how it works make sense)?
2) Is it a scam?
3) If it is not a scam, could it open my computer up to viruses/trojans if I run it?

I answered those questions by:

1) Reading and understanding Satoshi's whitepaper.  Then thinking about it for a day or two and reading it again.
2) Finding out everything I could about the project.  I read every forum thread here (there were probably under a hundred threads back then) and read Satoshi's initial postings on the crypto mailing list.
3) Downloaded and skimmed the source code to see if it looked vulnerable to buffer overflow or other remotely exploitable attacks.

If I were going to experiment with an alternative block-chain, I'd go through the same process again. But I'm an old conservative fuddy-duddy.

If you want to take a risk on a brand-new alternative block-chain, I'd strongly suggest that you:

1) Run the software in a virtual machine or on a machine that doesn't contain anything valuable.
2) Don't invest more money or time than you can afford to lose.
3) Use a different passphrase at every exchange site.

i totally agree. This occurs especially in the euphoria of trying to participate in an airdrop or bounty . Most of these blocks turned out to be fine though. i'd do these checks next time. Thanks.

Which best altcoin to trade

There is no universal solution. Analyze the market and the coins and make the decision.

Good advice.

Using an alternate cryptocurrency client would be a great way to get many people to install a hidden virus that targets Bitcoin users.

If you have a significant amount of Bitcoins, I wouldn't run other clients on the same computer until the alternates have developed trust over a longer period of time... I'm probably on the paranoid side of things though.

These new cryptocurrencies are interesting, and it will be fascinating to see how it will all play out.

Even if you have taken all the security precautions on the computer you work with, you can still lose your crypto money in some way.
For this reason, it is a good idea to use a second computer and not to use it for any other business except for the second computer crypto buying and selling. I work this way too. Moreover always check link before clicking on the link

You just need 1 portable bitcoin client that can safely reside on an encrypted and backed up volume, and one regular one for day to day tiny stuff. It's not like you routinely send 5000+ BTC, no?

Incidentally, cobbling together a somewhat workable portable bitcoin is pretty straightforward.

Yeah,a good advise, security must be over all things.Crackers can do anything by sending malicious softwares to the PC.So,to avoid their attacks,we must use an antivirus software and use strong passwords in all wallets

An alternative chain of blocks should be safe, because they are connected and are the source of income for many people. This block-chain has already helped so many people, and has saved their money. Knowing that this block chain has ensured people's financial needs.

Yes, decentralization is one of the alleged security guarantees for the block system. If the copies of the block-chain are stored on a large and widely distributed network of nodes and there is not a single weak point for external attacks, it is very difficult for hackers to put together enough computing power to penetrate the network.

When i entered crypto, i actually use same username and passwords on some of the first sites that i signed up. Then one time it come to my senses that, what if i get hacked. All my accounts would be affected, an it wasnt good. Then i tried to change everything, starting on my email. And now i can say i can make a book out of my passwords and username. lol. Its better to be safe than sorry. But im making sure that i backed up all of that incase things would mess up.

Hello friends. if you want to make money on crypto currency, do not forget about the security of your wallet. Use only one personal computer.

Some people only have one computer and that must suck. Fortunately I have multiple so I can use some of my alt-miners to do this safely.
what may be a solution for those users?

thanks for the safety tips, in the crypto world it's always good to be a bit conservative so do not expose yourself to a rich risk that is a very volatile and dynamic market
