It's amazing how this is still so relevant nowadays. It was originally posted in 2011 and yet I'd say that now it's more relevant than ever before. We have so many new projects going on and most of them are far from reliable. Doing this type of 1.0.1 research before putting any funds in or advertising a project is just fundamental.
Anyway, I feel like although the crypto space is getting wiser and investors become more prudent, there is still a gap that needs to be fulfilled for a real crypto-adoption to occur, no matter which blockchain would be used.

The only things I might add is that "use a different password" isn't limited to exchanges, but applies to forums, emails, and even pools Wink , and that some antivirus heuristics seem to hate anything that has mining code in it and isn't explicitly white listed. Using an alternate crypto currency client would be a great way to get many people to install a hidden virus that targets Bitcoin users.
