my question is what will be effect of quantum computing on Ethereum?

That's a ridiculously complicated question that can't be answered yet.

How droll.  Are you able to use the wallet, Geth?

Quantum computing packages are available for all the available OSs.  Perhaps you could write one for Ethereum.  If you know how to set-up and use the wallet, I would like some help.

--scryptr

But wouldnt quantum computers break through cryptography? I dont know Im not IT guy, but tech webs are saying QC computers are closer then we think.

You are not a scientist, either.  Quantum computing packages are available for physicists.  A quantum computer is a (hypothetical) piece of hardware, not a software medium (like ethereum) or an OS.

Sorry, I am learning how to use the wallet.  Something practical, but apparently difficult.       --scryptr

That's a ridiculously complicated question that can't be answered yet.

Ethereum had to choose a different system and everybody had to agree on it.

Quantum Computing is by all means not the death of any Cryptocoin - Several Universities have written papers about it and there are theories for Quantum Encryption that can not get decrypted.
If you duckduckgo a little about it u will find some very interesting research papers.
: )

P.S: Don't buy Ethereum on Poloniex - I got many many Ether stuck on their exchange and they won't resend it. (Since they don't know yet if it's safe to do so)

Edit: To the guy venting his spleen because of the missing GUI. Doing it in Code is much more convenient. You will get your GUI in the third phase of Ethereum. In addition, Think about it, which Coin ever had 3 Clients available..in different programming languages?! - It's very neat!

Most Coins are Shitcoins

Ethereum is true a innovation and has something extra than we are expecting from it, that is smart investment for safest future so i am more relaxed with it and happy to see it is growing day by day. Grin

To deposit your presale wallet, visit http://bittrex.com/balance/ethereum.

Ethereum Frontier is still in an experimental state.

Use a small amount for your first deposit to make sure your setup is working as expected before sending larger amounts.

To deposit from another exchange, please check that they support IBAN addresess. Funds sent from an exchange that does NOT support IBAN addresses will be lost.

To deposit coins directly, use an Ethereum client that supports IBAN transfer such as the current development branch. The public 1.0.1 version of the Ethereum does not support this command. Use the following command:

eth.sendIBANTransaction(
"{your wallet address}",
"{your bittrex IBAN address}",
"web3.toWei( {amount} , "ether")"
)

How does a person generate the "wallet.json" file locally (Win 7 x64 PC) with Geth v1.0.1?

If your words are true:  The FACT IS...IBM AND SAMSUNG CHOSE ETH FOR THEIR ADEPT PROGRAM, Then 5 usd or even more is possible but if not anyway price dont cann´t  vary greatly on that lapse of time. Right now the price is down to what you had predicted, Certainly volume is very big  4.6M USD but price is around of $ 1.75 usd.

INCOMING: $3 USD WITHIN THE NEXT 72 HOURS!

I realise that probably represents a whole week's pocket money for you, but I seriously doubt an extra $3 is going to have much impact on the price.

I started Geth with the supplied Windows batch file.  How long does it take to download the blockchain?  How can I tell when the blockchain is completely in place?

I am assuming that the blockchain is still downloading, the console window has text streaming by.

It's really pretty quick. I get around 100 blocks per second on my relatively slow connection - when it works at all.

The problem I'm having is I find it almost impossible to find any peers to connect to. While running 'geth console', type:
  net.peerCount
and it will tell you how many peers you are connected to. I usually see:
  0
...

If I run:
  geth --verbosity 6 console
it shows extra debugging, including lots of lines like this:
  I0814 23:19:38.061221   10297 peer.go:164] Peer 880b62ae95ef4e37 105.229.120.235:30305: remote requested disconnect: Too many peers
indicating that the peers I'm finding are all too full to allow my connection.

Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks for the warning, pardner.

If only you had been around to warn of scams though. I'd much appreciate that one especial.

I'm up on my accumulations. Old Jessip told me to speculate to accumulate. He was right. He's finely right in the head most days.

He tells me Eth and Saf (that last one's short for Safecoin, which happens to be born of that strange maid's Safe, well one day it is. Dunno, where was I ...)

Ah yes, Eth and Saf. They are the two boys in my stable now. Am I hitchin' a winner you reckon? Do I need a warning on what to do with all my stacks of cash?

But see right there? That's fiat thinkin'. That's when a man just wants a crypto to go up and he has other plans, to hoof it back to fiat. That's no game plan man, that's just balling us with hope so you can get yourself a fancy car and a girl to go.

Now see, this Eth could be around for awhile. Forget your 5 dollar targets. Let's be men. Let's say 500. I'II see you there, friend.

Best quote of the week.

It seems that the price is lowering, ever so slowly. But when it hits 0.003, I'm all in.

If this is true...

If you think about it, do you think that large corporations will give a cent to anyone else? I would not be surprised if they just take the open source tech and **** the coin holders of the original chain. Between the two of them they have tons of money to throw at the best full time developers. It is the risk of open source.

Attention, trade volume on Poloniex is wrong whatever the reason might be. I'm trading on that exchange for years and graphs were always correct but now with ETH there is a major problem with 1-day chart, it is showing much lower daily trade volume than listed on the right, at coins list. Do not asume that graph is wrong (it was never wrong before) but the oppossite (coins list value is wrong) and do not be fooled by big numbers shown elsewhere. Poloniex moderators were informed of problem multiple times but didn't reacted, it obviously suits Poloniex to continue luring the naive into buying based on inflated trade volume.

If buying, keep in mind ETH costed just around 55k Satoshi not so long ago (at ICO). IMO the chance for a major dump is really high, the only question now is who will start dumping first (whales?).
