This is for those who use wallets with cheap transaction fee, such as ethereum based wallets.
There are some who cannot yet afford to purchase a hardware wallet. On that note, i have a suggestion on how your wallet can be safe from hackers. I have always noticed wallets that get easily hacked are those that are subject to public view.
Try as much as possible to have a separate cold wallet address that you do not copy and paste the private key, and neither do you share the address with anyone. You can use it to store most of your valuable coins.
Even if you want to transfer any coin or token to an address belonging to another person, first transfer it to your public wallet before sending it out.

Indeed, we should be monitoring our wallet in a timely manner. We must not be careless. If we sense something wrong with our wallet we should take proper monitoring as quickly as we sense it or else it might get bad. Second one is that report it to the some admins or officials of that certain wallet in order for them to take some proper actions into it. The other one is that is improve your own security fot the safetyness of your wallet. Lastly is that,do prior precautions before going in to use such wallet.

BIG WINNER!

I believe that one should not leave the wallet address on his or her email.
we have to always check our wallets and make passwords that are a little complicated so it won't be easy to hack people.

People who cant afford a hardware wallet, the best thing they can do is to store there private keys on a piece of paper. Just take a print out on a paper of your paper wallet and dont store it anywhere online.

Not even on  a notepad file on your computer.

Now, other suggestions I can give is that if you are technically sound, move from windows to linux or mac, it reduces your chances of getting infected with a malware by a big margin.

Eventually, when you can go and buy a hardware wallet, its worth every penny.

I like the idea of moving to Linux, it's pretty simple, and you can work on Linux even with just a USB flash drive. This will greatly increase security. It's also a good step to buy a cold wallet.

Honestly, i cannot afford to buy hardware wallet, just like trezor or the others, but what i did to secure my web wallets is that i used several wallets, and i have wallets which are kept in my email and i never it used to any airdrops or bounties, then i transfered all my tokens and coins in that wallet. Well its good to use several wallets than keeping only one, possible are it can be hacked, if not, keys would lost, and you can never recover, best thing is to secure also the email, some some verifications before you can accessed your email, in that way, your important files are secured.

I am a user of myetherwallet so the first thing I will protect it is by installing the metamask utility to detect the fake page.
I store my private key where nobody knows and install the virus software to detect keylog.

I think the best way to protect your funds from hackers is to buy a hardware wallet. You can also store your savings in different wallets.

There's no 100% protection against the hack. All the wallets have vulnerabilities, moreover, they may be hacked via phishing link or something else, so you have to be careful no matter where you hold your savings!

in protecting your wallet from hackers, i think app wallet is preferable to web. with app, when you activate 2fa, both email and the wallet, it becomes difficult for hackers to hack. even if they gain access to your email, your 2FA protects your wallet. but if you are using web, you might mistakenly click a phishing link that exposed your accounts to hackers.

Using web wallet if you enable 2fa will grant you the same security as using desktop wallet aswell, but I heard that 2fa is actually just not enough since theres some cases out there that mention the use of 2fa can still be vulnerable against hackers.
Hardware wallet is I think have more security if you want the real security over your wallet but if you want a perfect security just make an offline wallet.

you are to blame Poor Security Measures
" hacked accounts rose 369 per cent in 2017 compared to the previous year"

The country with the largest number of affected users of the crypto currency was the United States at 34.3%. (Think of your safety)
The countries grouped under the category "Others" were 11.1 percent,
followed by the Russian Federation with 10.5 percent,
  and China - five percent.
The largest number of affected users in Turkey was 2.4 percent.

Even if you want to transfer any coin or token to an address belonging to another person, first transfer it to your public wallet before sending it out.

A very useful suggestion. I have long used some digital wallets to store my tokens.
I also tried saving my key on paper to not forget, A small number of tokens can also be stored on various exchanges.
Last I was very careful when surfing the internet.

My simple steps guide:

1. Purchase a Hardware Wallet (ignore if you cant afford or dont want to spend money on it, though its much more worth then what you think).
2. Don't keep your private keys digitally anywhere, specially not in a notepad while in a computer which you think is safe.
3. Write your private keys on a piece of paper, put it somewhere safe like in a locker/etc.
4. Use Metamask (will save you from phishing sites), even if you are using MEW or other services, keeping metamask addon will save you from phishing sites.
5. Instead of copying your private keys and pasting in the window, start making a habit of typing your private keys instead, it will save you from the malware attacks where your clipboard details are stored.
6. Don't get phished/scammed.

I use several wallets. I save the basic funds on the hardware wallet. Avoid phishing sites and everything that promises more profit, because it can be sure that something that promises better then it is a big lie. I plan to buy a separate laptop for offline transactions.

I shared the tokens that I've to several different wallets, because in this way the tokens I have are very safe and I also suggest that you don't open emails that are not clear because some hackers send phishing links via email
