Latest article by www.wired.co.uk stated that a newspaper by researchers  at the University of Texas at Austin's department of finance indicates that someone at Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange may have artificially inflated the price of coins including bitcoin, ether, and Zcash. The responsible for this appears to have been Tether, a cryptocurrency with the same CEO as Bitfinex.
What are your thoughts about this? Do you think they really manipulated the price? Is it possible?

How can you work in this market and be so naive? The fact that Bitfinex is manipulating the market has been known for a long time. And I think that it is not difficult for them to do this because the market is illiquid. It's enough to spend relatively little money to direct the price where they need it.

Right this time,we all are very much serious about investing in cryptocurrency.
This market is 150% risker than stock market.
Cryptocurrency market is still now a manipulated and influenced market by whales.

Unregulated markets like that of crypto currencies are ideal for manipulation. However I believe to manipulate the price of any coin you need to have a significant amount of that coin, so exchanges can be ideal culprits in any price manipulation.

Why be surprised? Manipulations from tether and Bitfinex were and are always. When we buy cryptocurrency, we should understand it.

Markets all over the world have some form of manipulation going on. However, the cryptocurrency market because of it's unregulated nature tends to have more manipulation especially by the so called whales who tend to crash prices so as to get some coins at cheaper prices and this is peculiar to BTC mostly

You can hardly have a perfect market condition most of the times. Manipulations go on in virtually every market where there are buyers and sellers. It is however more pronounced in the crypto market because it is unregulated. Should the much touted regulations ever come into play, the manipulations should be very minimal.

Of course yes! Any market that is manipulated when there are big players on it, and the crypto currency market is only a proof of that, one should only hope for their own cleansing that they would earn money on it

I think this is the case at the present market. The price are being manipulated by the large sectors which hold large percentage amount of a certain coin especially bitcoin. The number of bitcoin only limited and only a number of individuals can buy large amount it. If this individuals will cooperate then the market will most probably suffer.

A currency with a lower total market capitalization is easier to manipulate for potential whales.
Holders with large amounts of coins began to sell at a lower price than the market price, which in turn led people to start panic selling. When the price of the coin drops to a new low, the whale will buy back. Then repeat this process to accumulate more wealth, more coins, and more control.

At an individual level, likely impossible without a lot of capital.

At a company level, pretty darn easy. There is a lot of speculation that Coinbase just did it intentionally this past week. As soon as Coinbase launched support for Bitcoin Cash, the price of Bitcoin plummeted and the price of Bitcoin cash spiked dramatically as people moved money around. Some people have suggested that there was some insider trading going on at Coinbase when this happened, and that a lot of their employees profited dramatically from it.

At the end of the day that’s all just conjecture right now as far as I know, but it’s still a lesson to be careful when investing into crypto.

This cannot yet be concluded, except it is confirmed from a reliable source. Although, the market might seem to have been manipulated, but time will tell. My understanding of the crypto market is that most times price manipulations is as a result of human factor, most especially the whales, but this might also to to either bullish market or bare market.

Yes, the market can be manipulated. Simply buying or selling bitcoin in large amounts strongly affects the overall behavior of the market

Each and every market can be manipulated. There is no doubt in it. If anyone says that the market can't be manipulated then he is totally lying. Every marketplace can be manipulated. If the giant investor is willing to divert the market in any way they surely can. But no one never tries to spoil their the source of income. So any marketplace even cryptocurrency marketplace can be manupulated. No can guarantee anything about this uncertain marketplace. Some times you see the coins price is going down and some time suddenly it becomes so higher then your imaginations. So need to understand the market very carefully and need to study more about this Marketplace.
See if anyone wants to gain in any place 1st thing they need to educate them self about their specific topic or marketplace. Otherwise, all their efforts will be gone and the giant of the market controller will destroy their all investment. As I say it. Earlier every single market place can be manipulated. Crypto marketplace is now being controlled by giants and this is no doubt at all. So be careful before investment and try to know more and more about this market place.

it is almost impossible to manipulate the cryptocurrency market. As unlike the stock market, here the majority earns no resale, and retention. Therefore, it is almost impossible to provoke a reset even to a huge whale.

The electronic market will always be driven by price and participants. When bitcoin investors stop working, the bitcoin price will go down unstable market. Conversely, many people invest in electronic money, and so will their prices. Market control is in line with actual demand.

The cryptocurrency market is manipulative because major players have an influence on the media and use this for their own purposes. We can not do anything with it and we can only adjust to the changes that are taking place.
