Do we have an update for the bootstrap installation instructions? They don't work for my wallet.

The current instructions still apply.  The bootstrap works but can take a few days depending on your system.  Sometimes the wallet may appear to be frozen but it's likely not, just loading.

Let's say you had a bunch of mint loaded onto a wallet and you hadnt yet opened up the private keys and then all of a sudden the computer broke and you dont just want to take your computer to the shop (and thus give them access to your wallet)?

So, there is no password on the wallet, not good. There really isn't much you can do from a security stand point except stand behind the tech and make sure your wallet isn't opened. Is the hard drive OK? If the problem is hardware like power supply or motherboard or screen, pull the drive first. Of course you could explain the issue and ask that you be present when the work is done. Can't think of much else...

can i copy the mintcoin wallet file from the internal drive of the broken computer to another computer and open it from a second computer to remove the coins before i take the computer to the shop to get a motherboard replaced...? i don't want to do anything that could risk corrupting the wallet files... not sure what to do here... if he has to order a proprietary motherboard he would expect me to leave it in the shop a few days... i'd rather not even mention that there are "sensitive files" or "coin balances" on the computer to the repair tech... i like to keep that stuff as need-to-know as possible ... plus even with me watching, how would i really know hes not cloning the drive or installing something on it without me knowing... now i know im being paranoid ... but i want to be careful here... lets say hypothetically these coin balances are enough that if someone knew where to find them they could possibly be a tempting target...

All you have to do is copy the "wallet.dat" file and save it in a safe place. This contains balance and any private keys or passwords. After copying off the broken PC make sure it's safe and delete the original from the bad computers hard drive. Make sure you empty the deleted items folder contents as well. I would also delete any traces of the Mintcoin wallet so nobody can see it was installed. Make sure you copy the correct file if you have any other cryptos installed.

When all is said and done, reinstall the Mintcoin wallet, let it sync up and then overwrite new wallet.dat file with your old one. Restart and your coins will be there if you did everything correctly. Most you would need to do is a "rescan" and we can walk you through that if needed. Just remember, the wallet.dat IS your money, don't loose it!

The bootstrap is in my daemon folder but it is doing nothing. I'm still 700+ days away from sync

It should if the wallet is installed on that drive and the drive has the same letter assigned to it in the new computer. If it was C: it will need to be C: on the new computer along with the original, functioning operating system and you can access it normally. If not, use this procedure on any PC:

Download and install the wallet on another computer, let it sync or download the bootstrap and when its all caught up, close it then over write the wallet.dat the new install created with your old one from the other, broken PC. Reopen the wallet and your coins should be there. The wallet.dat file contains all the info needed to access your coins including your password. Do not loose it!

I'm always several thousand blocks behind when I start the wallet the next day. I don't see this with other wallets. What causes so many transactions to take place on the Mintcoin network?

One block is generated every 30 seconds.

I wouldn't mind if it ran at less than 100 MB, like, say, the Curecoin wallet does, but over 1500 MB is ridiculous.
