Can't find a link to a snapshot.
Been holding a good hoard of zeit for 51 weeks now. Spent most of februari trying to sync up the new wallet.

This 1 adress rule for proof of knightship is just great.

You are right, the OP is not updated with the most recent version (kiklo is it possible to do that?).
it just took me few seconds of searching in kiklo's post history to get the most recent version tough.
Here you go:

Zeit Wallet Install Instructions for New Users
Latest Version  2.0.1.5 Gauntlet

Download New Wallets from  http://www.zeit-coin.net
You need Winrar to unzip the wallet, download winrar at
http://rarlabs.com/download.htm

From Here you have 2 Choices,
Option 1: Just start the new zeitcoin-qt.exe and let it sync from scratch , (take 2 or 3 days), if it pauses during the sync, you can just leave it , or restart it and it will jump over the slow spots.

Option 2: Fast Way (15 minutes) if you don't want to wait for the Blockchain to sync from the beginning.
Go to Any of the Following Links to get a copy of the Zeitcoin Blockchain from Feb 14th, 2015.

https://mega.co.nz/#!7JwFWazC!kdPDb-USzYdnIMlUCjWn_TnflWbsVmLbetNWK9rIWeo

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3a3l0akth7dpoeg/ZeitCoin-Blockchain.zip?dl=0

Make sure Zeitcoin is closed
Then Unpack and copy & replace the files from Zeitcoin-Blockchain into
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Zeitcoin
Then open Zeitcoin and it will start syncing the BlockChain from the Feb 14th, 2015 instead of the start.

 Cool

FYI:
Zeit Wallet Upgrade Instructions for Anyone on an older version before 2.0.1.5

Ray, Kiklo, (Ebolansk?)

Just in case this ISN'T just fudding by the powers that be, maybe we should have some kind of response ready?

The research focus revolves around the threat of embedding decentralized chunks of malware on the blockchain by either hosting it or referencing it with cascaded pointers. Transactions and data are encrypted throughout the blockchain networks using different versions of public/private key encryption. Could malware survive eternally inside crypto-transactions? A proof of concept will be explained highlighting the concerns revolving around the “abuse and bloating” of the blockchain while comparing it to previous malware hosting and deployment models.

Why didn't you follow the instructions on the official website or download the bootstrap?
There isn't any 1 address rule. It's the easiest way for us, but you can give us more than 1 addresses.

Visit:
http://www.zeit-coin.net for bootstrap download. (Copy bootstrap.dat into your zeitcoin directory)
or
http://www.zeit-coin.net/update for snapshot versions. (direct link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/52j5voifa7g5ge6/ZeitCoin-Blockchain.zip) (faster than bootstrap import)

Cheers,
Ray

Yes, it is possible. You can store everything in the blockchain in different ways. But you need a software to activate the malware on your device or computer.
You can store virus signatures, pictures, audio files, compiled code etc. That's no secret - it's the chain's nature.

A possible way to do that: http://www.cryptograffiti.info/
All you need to know is the blockhigh where it starts/ends (pointer).

Why didn't you follow the instructions on the official website

Because I'm not windows compatible and neither is most of my hardware.
I never thought it would take multiple weeks to sync up.

Anyway it worked, only 10 days left to sync.

What kind of PC hardware isn't windows compatible?

It's the same procedure with every other os.
Downloading from the beginning doesn't take multiple weeks.

Here's a short overview:
Complete chain download: 3-6 days. (multiple wallet restarts required because of the max orphan memory value [default: 750])
Bootstrap import: 10-24h. (multiple restarts, same known issue as above)
Chain Snapshot: 0h + [rest time]

The maximum orphan block value is a security feature of many coins including bitcoin.
Some coins have a -maxorphanblocks parameter. Changing that value isn't recommendable.

^^
No, I haven't noticed any increased rate of orphans. Staking as normally. Probably it has to do with how much coins you have in a single chunk, with very little chunks being more probable to produce orphans. A good remedy is to group coins into bigger blocks with coin control option - once the block is mature, you will get your stake faster than with several smaller blocks.

You cannot remove them. It's how POS works. Everything seems OK.

I think I accidentally unlocked my second wallet on another PC that day. That will do it every time.  Wink

Caution. Please - never use the same wallet on different devices. They will drift and you will lose coins.
Sharing a wallet among multiple computers ends up going badly.
After 100 addresses, a wallet generates 100 further random addresses. You can use ONE wallet on an external device - but never copy the wallet to different devices.  Wink

That's good to know.

So, been away for a couple months. Looks like there's been a couple wallet updates so I'll have to upgrade when I get home.

And only 4 more days before I miss my chance to be a knight!  Shocked

And liking the price appreciation so far. Smiley

What else I miss?

When you get multiple orphans like that and the client is not in sync.
IMO, you were heading off on separate fork, you were out of sync because no one else matches the fork you are on, if that happens close your wallet and then you restart it , it will line up with the correct path.
If this happens alot to you, the best option would be to Encrypt your wallet and only Unlock it to stake when the Wallet is completely synced (green checkmark at the bottom right) , this will cut down on your orphans.

Getting orphans is normal, but the out of sync part added means that you can't mint until it is in sync.
For people that only open the zeit wallet occasionally , it will cut down on the network orphans , if you wait until synced before unlocking the wallet to stake.

@Ray,
The dropbox link for the download is still good,
the Mega link changed at the last update to
https://mega.co.nz/#!7JwFWazC!kdPDb-USzYdnIMlUCjWn_TnflWbsVmLbetNWK9rIWeo
dropping the mediafire , they had upload issues.

Didn't know that either. Is it something particular to ZEIT or it applies to most of qt-wallets?

Applies to all wallets, because transactions may not be recorded in the other wallet.
Example: You sent out some coins from your wallet on the home PC.
The outgoing transactions was recorded by the network but is not recorded on the wallet on the laptop.
Then you try to sent some coins out from your laptop and the network denies them , because the network sees they were already sent.

That's not the problem, kiklo.

If you send coins with computer 1, computer 2 does not know a possible new generated change (back) address. After some time, you have 2 different wallets with a different coin amount and many different key pairs. It ends up in chaos.
A wallet is a container for many private and public keys - like a key chain. Amount of coins is a summation of all addresses.

Just the opposite:
NXT has one private and one public key. You can use it where ever you want - simultaneously.

Or just use an electrum style deterministic wallet, and then you don't have to worry about this issue either...

Ok,
But won't 1 side effect be what was in my example or am I off base with that train of thought?
