I'm still concerned about difficulty oscillating between extremes. The network gets 'stuck' for several minutes on a high difficulty block, then once that is solved difficulty rapidly decreases, then increases again, before the cycle repeats.

Here's an example. Note that in a ~40 minute period the difficulty spectrum ranges between 0.00057377 and 1.17507307, which is a massive (2047 times) difference. Also note that the network mints nothing for ~16 mins, then spits out 23 blocks in ~3 mins. I guess it tends to average out over time, but it makes mining difficult - no blocks for some time, then a flurry of found blocks, with associated orphans because of low difficulty...

Code:
12:23:56 1.17507307

I downloaded some programs yesterday, including the galaxycoin wallet. I left the wallet on for some time and it never started working. But I noticed something odd on my computer and ran a Spybot search and destroy scan. It found malware called 2urface in the registry. The Trojan had not been spotted by Avast.

I don't know which program it came from and I am not trying to play games with the price, since I own quite a few glx. Still, I would recommend anyone who downloaded the wallet from mega in the last few days to run a Spybot scan.

It very well may be the thing came from another program, I downloaded a disk defrag at the same time that kept asking again and again for full control of the computer even though it was not running.

So the problem probably is not the galaxycoin wallet, but better safe than sorry.

So sorry you appear to have a virus,

However, I can confirm it is not from the glx wallet,

The wallet was compiled on a fresh windows 7 vps,

Also, here are the virus total results:

My wallet is stuck syncing at block 330082. Has somebody uploaded a wallet.dat file somewhere that I can download?
Or another solution for the problem.

It's not the wallet.dat you need. Wink That's your coins, the block chain is some of the other files in the "datadir".

We could provide you with the block chain, if so needed, don't know where to host it, though.

how much speed are you getting.i am getting only 8khash/s Angry.but i get 40mhash/s for bitcoin mining.

Are you CPU mining? The chance of winning a block with that level of hashing is very, very slim. (And pretty much impossible for Bitcoin)

I recommend you use a pool. There are some listed in the OP of this thread, although I'm not sure if they are still active.

You should be aware that in the long term, CPU mining a SHA256 coin (eg Bitcoin) or scrypt coin (eg Galaxycoin) with a CPU is probably going to result in a net loss; you will spend more on electricity than value you mine.

The difficulty oscillation is probably a side effect from multipools jumping in, now perhaps with ASICs etc.
I also observe frequent orphaning of long chains on the network, perhaps due to very large hashpower being used for short periods. Confuses pool software a lot.

Something needs to be done to smooth difficulty changes and long orphan chains. Sadly, changes like this require forking the chain.

Is anyone doing any work on this coin?
Why is the price so low?
It was one of the better original cryptocurrencies.
Should a person buy, or is it just kept alive for miners to dump?

Wow.. your name works so well with your questions..
I'm still here.

Hello!

ha, I honestly did not notice the ice coincidence until your post. I used the name no ice please for another topic. ice can stand for immigration and customs enforcement,  a thuggish mallpolicesque band of simple idiots.

I like galaxycoin and hope it does well. You should talk with the developer of hobonickels, tranz, and ask him for fresh ideas. hbn is down at the moment but he is an extremely good dev, I think he helped the bottlecaps dev recently.

anyway, your name is fine with ice, cube45 would be cool too though.

I'll chat with em,

Unfortunately I'm a bit busy developing multipool software for zimstake right now.

Confirm. Old transactions have been deposited and new one is passed to Cryptsy smoothly right now.

Great work!

Hmm, when we thought we had it all figured out.  Undecided

SolidStateSurvivor,
Did you 5/21 transfer go through yet? I have a few on 6/1 past 42k confirms now still in pending with no recent updates to my ticket by Cryptsy. (I wonder if they might be working on other tickets with larger confirm amounts such as another of mine with a different coin now over 100k confirms and not yet showing in pending.)
