The Newsweek article quotes Gavin saying he and others were convinced Satoshi was a single person, based on how his code was written.

I  believe it was a single person as well. The kind of genius expressed in the original Satoshi article and then implemented doesn't get invented in committee. Even if you had 10 men the equal of Satoshi and put them together on a project to create bitcoin working together, you'd find them bogged down and disagreeing with each other. They'd never get it done. Some things just need to be done by an anti-social "jerk" working in a closet, or they never get done at all. Looks like that's how bitcoin came to be.

Meh, I'd be willing to bet the "journalist" conjured up his quote regarding Bitcoin, because if you take that out of the story then it's just another IT guy with part of his name as Satoshi Nakamoto, and the whole thing falls apart. She's obviously gone to some effort to find a link. My guess is she fell flat and made it up to rescue her time investment (several months it seems).

It was a team that ultimately developed bitcoin.  Nakamoto created Bitcoins, not the idea of cryptocurrency.  After Nakamoto created bitcoins, Gavin and others made edits to make it work.

Who's 'we'?  As I said earlier, it was just a white paper, a concept, an idea to begin with, something so trivial that spending 1000 bitcoins on a pizza seemed amazing when that happened (wow you can actually buy something like a pizza with it :O).
He would have no reason to hide at the beginning. Are you suggesting the real Satoshi had a time machine, could see just how Bitcoin was going to become huge, went back in time and decided to use an alias?

I don't know if this is really the guy, but the originator being an individual called Satoshi Nakamoto is just as plausable as a secret alias individual or collective imho.

I want to go on record as saying that this is a bait article. They are monitoring the house to see what happens, then we will get another article detailing what would happen to Satoshi if he were ever uncovered. It's a fake.
