He gave two signs he is Satoshi.
"I'm not involved" ( but was )
"Free lunch" ( a typical libertarian expression )

Why is "Free lunch"  a typical libertarian expression. I thought it was more leftish...

Due to Milton Friedman's book "there is no such thing as a free lunch"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmqoCHR14n8

Thanks. I watched the video - that was may point.

To make it more close to this thread: Satoshi offered a kind of (sustainable) "free lunch" to the world and an now the world is preparing to "thank" him. No wonder that were 200,000 applicants for the trip to Mars...

But in the end this community is also part of the world, so how this story will turn out it's up to us too.

There are some things that still don't make sense

--AP Report--
"I got nothing to do with it," he said, repeatedly.

Several times during the interview with AP, Nakamoto mistakenly referred to the currency as "bitcom," and as a single company, which it is not. He said he's never heard of Gavin Andresen, a leading bitcoin developer who told Newsweek he'd worked closely with the person or entity known as "Satoshi Nakamoto" in developing the system, but that they never met in person or spoke on the phone.

"Peer-to-peer can be anything," he said. "That's just a matter of address. What the hell? It doesn't make sense to me."

Asked if he was technically able to come up with the idea for bitcoin, Nakamoto responded: "Capability? Yes, but any programmer could do that."

----------------

Is it weird that he seems to go from stumbling idiot who doesn't even know what a 'bitcoin' is, and keeps mistakenly calling it bitcom… to someone that feels they would have the understanding enough to even answer the question of "would you be able to technically come up with the idea for bitcoin"

Does his response to that question not imply he knows what bitcoin is and understands how it technically works?    Or am I missing where the AP reporter may have enlightened him to what bitcoin is and how it works… and THEN asked the question on whether he was technically able to come up with the idea?

Any chance the AP reporter recorded the full 2 hour interview?  I would love to hear the entire thing!  Grin

NSA paper, 1996: "How To Make A Mint: The Cryptography of Anonymous Electronic Cash". One referenced crypto expert is named Tatsuaki Okamoto.

It's apparent Satoshi calls them idiots.

I think the question was either poorly presented, or misinterpreted.

It all depends on how much he knows about Bitcoin. If someone asked, "Can you create a virtual currency?" I'd say sure, and do some sort of centralized value db, and some functions for moving values around.

How did this dude get the exclusive 2 hour dinner date with Satoshi? https://twitter.com/rnakashi   He's been tweeting about Bitcoin for a while now.

Yes, I'm behind, having mostly read only this thread and what was linked from within, plus a couple extra hops on my own accord.

Because both of them are Japanese.
Probably half of interview was done in Japanese, or at least, some off the record chat.

Quote
“I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it

I find the second half of the sentence to be extremely odd.

He either misspoke or the reporter heard him incorrectly.

It sounds like a perfectly rational answer IF she was asking about his government work. No longer involved in it (retired) and can't discuss it (signed nda type agreements).

Can I just bump and pat myself on the back?

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/bitcoin-blunder-satoshi-nakamoto-denies-all-involvement-with-cryptocurrency-9176107.html

Quote
After eating his lunch and sitting down with the reporter and a copy of the story Nakamoto said that one key piece of evidence from the story, in which he is confronted about his involvement with Bitcoin and responds, “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it”, was incorrect, as he was only referring to his work in engineering

Also:
It all depends on how she phrased it/asked him. You know she wanted this story - badly.

Quote
The 4,500 word article was positioned as a flagship story to welcome the magazine back to newsstands after it ceased printing in 2012.

She wanted this story REAL bad to make a name for herself. Too bad.
