You may want to speak with the developer about it, he has asked not to announce anything until after a dev team meeting which takes place tomorrow. I've got a pool set up as well and will be opening registrations when we get the green light from the devs. See if there's still a spot for an official launch pool, I think there's 3 so far but more pools are always good as long as there's miners!

Nearly our full team has arrived in Austin, TX but we're scattered across 3 different hotels - SXSW is insanity. We have a team meeting in about 10 hours and will post updates shortly after that. If you want your pool to be included in the main post, please contact me via private message. edric's pool is locked in at #2 on the list.
During the first 8 days, each block will contain 888 OctoCoins - these represent the largest OctoCoin blocks there will ever be. As a result, we expect a lot of miners will be hitting OctoCoin early and we will make sure we are prepared. While the difficulty will start out low, it will ramp up quickly - we expect the 888 blocks to last very close to the full 8 days.

Ok guys, we are opening up our pool for registrations. The url is http://octocoinpool.tk. When we're fully up and running the pool will be DDOS protected and will have a stratum in New York, and one in Singapore. The pool will be 1% 0.5% fee for the first 8 days, PPLNS, and we're going to be doing a WEEKLY giveaway of 25% of our earnings! This pool will be one of the official launch pools so we are doing our best to make sure that the miners have zero problems! Edit: Lowered first week fees.

OctoCoin does not use the KGW.
88 second block targets, re-targeting every 888 seconds, calculated using a 40 block sample / .25 damping.
no kgw. launching in zero g! from site: "Zero G Corporation parabolic flight"

Why would you ever want to be ready? That's insane. Putting up .conf info with ports, exact .conf filename, and nodes before launch is the absolute whackiest concept ever!

The nodes should be put up at the same time as the password for the zip/rar. Most launches have their nodes ddosed when they post them beforehand.

Config info so we can be ready? PW protected pre-release wallet?
Why would you ever want to be ready? That's insane. Putting up .conf info with ports, exact .conf filename, and nodes before launch is the absolute whackiest concept ever! Main post will be updated with launch pools (all will be accepting pre-registrations) as well as port information, etc hours before launch and nodes shortly before launch. The pools that have already contacted us will all receive private, password-protected links to the source code containing identifying information ~30 minutes before launch. The remaining pools will have to download the source after launch time either via our Akamai CDN or GitHub and, assuming they are around for the launch, should all be online within minutes since all other required info will have already been provided. All wallets will be hosted on our Akamai CDN and mirrored all over the world with unlimited bandwidth - there will be no issues downloading the wallets post-launch. We will not be distributing password protected pre-release wallets - the difference in time between coming here, retrieving and entering the password, and extracting the ZIP vs just downloading the wallet at launch from our CDN would be negligible unless you are on a dial-up connection. Even if you are on dial-up, or if you want to solo-mine, you are still covered: your best bet is to register at one of the pre-launch pools when we update the main post with the info and mine there while you are downloading and configuring your wallet for solo-mining.

How could 888 blocks last 8 days if the target time for blocks is 88 seconds? It should be 21 hours, and likely less than that because earlier, low diff blocks will go fast.

Each block will contain 888 blocks until block #7855 - based on an 88 second target, that comes out to ~982 blocks/day, or 8 days of 888 OctoCoin blocks. A lot of 8s in there and perhaps my choice wording wasn't flawless - octocoin.org is the best reference for technical specifications at this point. We aren't as crazy as we look - the math is sound. Obviously once the source is released, it will be much easier for everybody to answer their own questions. I would imagine it's frustrating not having access to the source code while attempting to analyze a new cryptocurrency.
