You're right about the fighting for the number spot on capital which will happen next but if the ethereum team provide the Casper and the shards which was the solution to the problem affecting ethereum market there will be no fight for the number 2 spot. However, concerning the OP statement, ripple will never be the number 1 coin this year or in future because ripple was supported by the government, banking sectors etc  and it current pump in price was due to manipulation and newest deal signed by the team. Mind you, nothing last forever.

Ripple has a large community and sometimes we are seeing very good price rises but I dont think that any altcoin can pass bitcoin, everything started with btc and it deserves first place at the market so I dont think this can be.

It was really surprising that Ripple have manage to surpass Ethereum recently for being the 2nd topmost crypto but I think surpassing Bitcoin as already something. Bitcoin is a way bigger crypto than ripple and keep in mind that bull run has not yet taking over the market and just imagine how strong will Bitcoin again be once recovery occured. But who knows, what we should focus at this moment is holding and avoiding to panic.

In my opinion, that's a clear question that anyone can answer if XRP will indeed become the number one crypto in the future. If we look at where it is now in relation to Bitcoin's position, ethereum is really way too far from even getting close to bitcoin's market cap and we know bitcoin already existed a decade ago.

i am an avid hodler of Ripple and i believe that this currency can go far. It has a lot of potential and can outgrow current rankings. Now to answer your question, i do not think that it can happen by the end of the year nor in the next year. This is just my personal speculation but things can happen anytime and we are not sure where can this lead us.

Ripple for me is a good coin and starts to show its integrity as a coin that has good quality coins and is stable in price.
Although the value of the Ripple price is not too high the value of the price is gradually increasing in value, it makes many people believe in Ripple and choose to invest with Ripple.

That is right but I think let suppose that if ETH recovered, it will not be a fight anymore.
The recovery is not impossible because we have seen such situation in other coins before as well so it would recover soon.

I am not sure about the end of this year but soon it will be rocking. It is maintaining 3rd position from last few months and it has moved to second position now (although it is not the first time that xrp is at 2nd position, xrp is unable to maintain 2nd position), it will take some time for xrp to cross the gap of 77 Billion dollars with BTC to reach at the top position. Upward movement from xrp and downward movement from BTC will be helpful to be number one crypto currency by minimizing CMC distance.

Bitcoin maximalists will hardly sit and watch any other coin become the number coin especially with the accusations that it is a centralized coin and really has not place in the crypto space. While I think it will come close to being no. 1, especially as it's overthrown ETH on the no. 2 spot.

Never make such emotional statements again. The current market cap of XRP is temporarily overtaking ETH, and to surpass the BTC is unlikely because the BTC market cap is huge, up to $ 96 billion while the XRP is just $ 19 billion. , so XRP passing BTC in 2018 is never going to happen.

I doubt of such thing to happen. Ripple have made something surprising this year. Despite of the negativity in the market, it has manage to surpass ethereum for being next to Bitcoin. But replacing Bitcoin as the topmost crypto would be a huge thing, meaning, such thing could not be possible since Bitcoin is way bigger than ETH, and XRP.

XRP will not be able to shift bitcoin into number 1 coins in the marketcap because bitcoin is the initial history of cryptocurrency, when we talk about digital assets, what we have in mind is bitcoin is not XRP or ETH, even though XRP is able to shift ETH in number 2, but no able to shift bitcoin, many investors are turning to XRP because the price of coins is still cheap.
