Since the question of the op is to convert to either gold or bitcoin and then keep it there for 10 years I will choose gold because I have not an idea of what value bitcoin will have in the long term, but if I could convert it back to fiat when there were price increases and then buy when the price is lower I will choose bitcoin.

i remember in until 2015, bitcoin prices is not going up more than $450, but in 2016 we can see that bitcoin prices have a good price and still getting up until now. i think keep bitcoin for 10 years is a good idea and i will do this and if i have more money, surely i will buy gold too as gold is a good investment too.

Actually, if you want a long-term investment, gold is better because the prices are more stable and slowly increase over decades. Bitcoin is affected by many factors so that its prices are likely to be fluctuating every year. However, if I have to choose between Bitcoin and gold, I will choose Bitcoin since it is more potential and include many technological benefits

Well, no doubt we are all wanting that to happen. It's the time element that is necessary for long term investors like us, we see the progress of bitcoin as it continue to increase and that convince us it will deliver a good price in the future.

Bitcoin and gold are both good investment but bitcoin on the recent market performance outplayed gold in terms of value appreciation, therefore for now bitcoin is very popular for us.

No. In my opinion, Bitcoin is more suited to short-term and medium-term investment, with frequent profit booking. Holding your coins for 10 or 15 years is extremely risky. There is a chance that Bitcoin will become obsolete by then.

No doubt that bitcoin is much profitable than gold but think twice before to convert your all money into bitcoin .
Because here problem is not of trust of bitcoin .
Here main matter is what is behavior of your country's government for the bitcoin flow  , If your country government have positive view toward bitcoin then without any tension you should convert all of your  fiat into bitcoin .
But if your country's government view toward bitcoin is small bit doubtful then spend only small fraction of your money bitcoin .

Gold is good investment also you can always get money whenever you want because pawnshop is everywhere especially during emergency time while we also need bitcoin in doing online shopping so less hassle for us and transferring money to our loveones.

we don't need both in our life. more clear, we don't need any of them. we just choose gold and/or bitcoin as a mean of storing value and for investment purposes. if you don't have any of those, then nothing will be lost. problem with cashing out gold in pawnshops for example is that they require to scan your id and note all your personal information. if you don't have any problems with that, then it's of course all fine, but i am sure there are many people around that don't like the idea of having an entity being in control of that precious information.

It does not make sense to me, I thought we are all believers here especially in the crypto currencies as a whole. Bitcoin is best as investment and currency and I have no problem with others not appreciating it.

you miss the complete point. i meant that we don't need any of them in our life as in we don't depend on them. nothing will happen in our lives when we don't have bitcoin or gold in our portfolio. not that we shouldn't invest or be in this whole crypto world.

But that is the issue, even in your own answer you respond to my reply that the future of bitcoin may be brighter, the keyword here is may, gold has a long history of being a reliable way to store your wealth while bitcoin is new and we don’t know if in ten years is going to be worth a few thousands or just a few cents.

Each investment has to bear some risk. Bitcoin is a much better investment tool when compared to the price increase of gold and bitcoin. When you hold the money in gold it is guaranteed that it will gain value over the years. But it is not possible to say that for bitcoin. I am very regret to lose this opportunity if the bitcoin reaches $ 10000. So it would be more sensible to take gold with the rest of the bitcoin with the half of money.

but in modern time where the new generation's trend is toward online buying  and selling and they are also giving preference to online business, therefore cryoto currency is becoming important for us just like fiat currency and in the world of crypto currency bitcoin is the number one crypto currency of the world.

For those people that will make their decisions wiser, they will choose bitcoin. The market of gold is quite slow in progress and those people that can have it are just for those who can afford it. And with bitcoin even this is still young crypto many of us are treating it as a modern gold or virtual gold which has a lot of potentials and benefits.

For me, a small investment in bitcoin is OK and more profitable. But if you want to invest very high amount then probably Gold is much better as it is reliable and stable, So there is less chances of being at the losing side in case of gold.

Underperforming in what way? If I look at the charts starting from the year 2000 till where we are standing today, then it has gone up from ~$230 to ~$1200 right now. That's not really what I consider to be underperforming, unless you were talking about something else.

On the other hand, gold has in fact been a valuable store of value for thousands of years, but was there enough competition during these times among different means of preserving value? I guess there was none, that's why today it is different from what it has been in the past

Bitcoin is a far better store of value tool than Gold if you ask me. One of the main benefits is that you can hide it without anyone noticing. With Gold you either need to buy a massive save, or walk your Gold into a bank vault where you rely on a third party to take care of everything. You can transfer it instantly to anywhere in the world which isn't possible with Gold that people hold in physical form. And there are more benefits of course. That's why I certainly hope that Bitcoin will turn out to be a better overall store of value tool (for me it definitely is), but it will be difficult to convince the massive amount of stubborn people that still think Bitcoin isn't real because they can't hold it in their hands.
