This edition of the world cup doesn't look very exciting to me. Last time, it was 14 teams, and this time it has been reduced to 10. Out of the 10 teams, five are from the South Asian region. There is hardly any diversity. And the biggest irony is that the decision to reduce the number of participants was made after Bangladesh knocked out India and Ireland destroyed Pakistan during the 2007 CWC. Since there are no minnows, the ICC hopes that the main market (India) will remain at least till the semi-final stage. Goes against the spirit of the game. They should make a rule that India will qualify to the next stage even if they lose all the matches in the group stage.

Hey with all due respect to your opinions this is the World Cup this is the biggest stage for any cricketer, and fans across the world and everyone is excited for it even those countries who’re not playing. I feel you don’t understand why ICC reduced the number of teams, I feel you should gather more knowledge on this. Also I can understand your home country is not playing, but accusing other countries will not help let’s respect all the countries.

I am not sure whether cricket is the second most playing sport in the world but it has much fan following in a few Asian countries and so is the reason there is only a limited amount of teams playing international cricket, with the huge population around those cricket watching nations in Asia it is the second most sporting event in the world.

Since there are no minnows, the ICC hopes that the main market (India) will remain at least till the semi-final stage. Goes against the spirit of the game. They should make a rule that India will qualify to the next stage even if they lose all the matches in the group stage.

I understand your opinion on the big upset by small teams, but never expect any big upset like Buster Douglas defeating Tyson in cricket, minnows will be crushed by top 5 teams and these encounters are usually uneventful where you will see big teams scoring huge runs like a practice game.

RCB almost their to take their first win after 4 matches. KKR still require 67 runs in 26 balls and 6 wickets remaining which is getting tough for them as the required run rate getting bigger and bigger. Let see if any miracle can happen.

Lol. There is a separate thread for IPL discussion which is why I don't understand why you are posting IPL related news in a thread which is clearly dedicated to the 2019 World cup(Excitement rising).

This is a good step taken by ICC to allow only top 10 teams to play the cricket world cup. Previously we saw about 14 teams used to play and those 4 , 5 teams were just newbie. The early matches of the world cup were sort of one-sided as we already knew those less strengthen teams will lose the matches easily.

I remember talking about this particular topic too recently. The IPL and big bash helped elevate the sport of Cricket to new heights making it even more entertaining and enjoyable.

People play cricket too in most of the countries including Brazil and Argentina. Brazil's first cricket match was against Argentina in 1888. Brazil ICC status is associate member since 2017 and Argentina since 1974. Problem is in those country, football is widely adopted and no to very little chance of being cricket flourished there.

People play cricket too in most of the countries including Brazil and Argentina. Brazil's first cricket match was against Argentina in 1888. It obviously makes sense that soccer is way more popular than cricket in Brazil considering the fact that it is one of the best countries in this regard producing amazing soccer stars over the years.

Wait for next 30-50 years China will join the big 3 tables ( Indian monopoly finished then lol in terms of viewership), Title would change to Big 4 (England, Aus, India, and China). Japan and Korea doing their best as well. Canada leading the way, Americans trying hard too.

In the Western national team, Players from Indian subcontinent can easily migrate if they want to and they do that on a regular basis, another way to create diversity in World cricket.

Loved by billions? I can count 1.5 billion in South Asia (India+Pakistan+Bangladesh). There may be a few million outside (mostly the Indian diaspora). Cricket is the no.1 sport only in South Asia. Even in countries such as Australia and England, its popularity is much lower than that of other sports such as football and boxing. A tournament played by just 10 countries (of that 5 in South Asia) can't be called a "world" cup. They should rename it to something like Commonwealth cricket championship.

Not sure how you come up with these numbers. I think you need to do some research before brining out some of your opinion.

And no one is here saying that cricket is no 1 in the world. We all are saying it's the number 2 sports :-D

By the way, boxing is not that much popular in the countries you mentioned. Not sure about Australia but in England, I think I know better about here. I am not only talking about England but the entire United Kingdom FYI.

Its good to see that you now moved on from your previous accusations and talking about Cricket now.

I suggest you should check the links which already posted in this thread by other posters. this would clear your confusion about Cricket popularity around the World. It ranks 2nd in the world.

I agree In England and Australia cricket is not the most popular sport despite being a national sport but its arguably in 2 and 3rd spot when competing with Football and Netball/NRL respectively. Having said that you might wanna check Cricket craze during Ashes too.

In case you don't know there are almost 90+ countries who play cricket as an Associate member, but they are yet to qualify for Full Member. Recently Afganistan and Ireland promoted as a Full member. I am sure you know what's the condition of Afganistan. its war-torn country and not very rich but still they managed to qualify for Full membership. only because of their dedication and love for the game. if they can then everybody can.

If you think ICC doing nothing for World Cricket then that might be news for you that ICC already Gave 20-20 status to All Associate Members.

I am very exited to see a world cup match Between india vs Pakistan  which is start at 16th june. Pakistan national selection committee has invited 23 players to complete a fitness test ahead of the announcement of their squad for the World Cup, beginning May 30 in England.every Cricket lover waiting to see this match.
