@Royse guess you are talking about this post? @eaLiTy you might wanna Click thisYh this was the post. Thanks bud. @eaLiTy, feel free to read those references. Cricket is not only popular in India but in the whole world. Over 2 Billion people loves cricket. Not a small number :-) What i was trying to tell is that the huge popularity of the sport is because of the huge population in these countries, like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and their combined population will be around 1.8 Billion, add Srilanka and Afghanistan combined you will get over 2 Billion people , it was just a jab i intended in my last post, the reality i know is that i have being to some European countries where they have not heard about the sport of cricket, it is very popular in common wealth countries and only these countries are playing cricket in international level too, in layman terms which ever countries the British conquered during their reign, they play cricket , i did not dispute about the popularity of the sport and i know very well how popular it is in Asian countries and GCC where you will see many tournaments on a weekly basis. @JSRAW, cheers mate.

Okay let's not make this post talking back and forth about the popularity, who play and who do not play types of arguable comments. In this forum, the cricket community is very small. Honestly speaking there are only few of us. I think I can count them easily and call their names however I am sure there will be more in the future. Let's enjoy the matches and move on.
To me, the popularity or anything else about cricket does not matter. I love cricket, I go crazy when my team wins, hit sixes, hit fours, takes wickets. That's matter for me. And I will be doing whatever I can do in my power to give my time and wealth to this sports.
Cheers :-)

Now a days i watch cricket when ever i get time, there was a time when i used to watch every ball being bowled and i remember almost all the matches i watched and a time where i used to spend the entire day in the cricket ground playing all day long but with time and age some things change for the better and that is life.

@eaLiTy @Sithara007 100% agreed with you on this that the majority of cricket viewers belongs to South Asia but I don't see any wrong in this. Our discussion should focus on what ICC doing for World cricket, as of now they are going slow but they indeed trying hard in this regard. I somehow agree with the @Sithara007 point of view because I am in favor of more countries participating in the Cricket World Cup but not accusations and name changing of World Cup lol. @Royse bhai got tired repeating the same argument, again and again, As long as we are discussing cricket related issue within a healthy and respectful manner then it's all fine.

My opinion is that it's too early to pick a team. Hard to have the outright. I had a quick look in bet365 and according to them Oz has the most chances although I don't think they will be correct.
I guess there are good chances for India and England.
I respect your opinion, but i think South Africa is best team and also Australia, May be you are disagree with my opinion, but as you said it is too early to judge which team will be better but i think after 4 or 5 matches then we quickly judge which team will be nearest to win the world cup, but my vote for South Africa.

The population doesn't matter much. It's the number of countries which is going to matter. Let's compare: Cricket world cup: 10 countries Hockey world cup: 16 countries Football world cup: 48 countries (from 2026) Olympics: 206 countries Basketball: 32 countries Boxing: 85 countries Rugby 7s: 24 countries Volleyball: 24 countries Baseball: 16 countries Handball: 24 countries Taekwondo: 177 countries Just look at the above list, and it is clear that cricket is one of the least popular sports in the world. Just because cricket is played by the Indians and the Indian diaspora, it does not qualify as a global sport. And one more thing. The link that you had given has no source. How this 2.5 billion figure is reached? South Asia may contribute to 1 billion and Indian diaspora another 10 million. At the most cricket may have 1.1 billion fans. It has zero fans in nations such as China, Japan, Korea, Brazil, USA, Russia.etc.

Really, zero? Brazil is playing cricket and an associate member of ICC. Maybe the popularity is very low but still they are playing. Regarding world cup, there are some more countries playing cricket regularly and one of the popular game in their country too but they are not qualified. ICC declared that top 10 teams will play the world cup. Otherwise, it could have 14 too. Check the list of popular sportsman and you will end up finding a lot of cricketers too. As per ESPN top 20 famous athletes- Virat Kohli is at number 7 Dhoni at 13 Yuvraj at 18 Including CR7, Lebron James, Messi, Neymar respectively in 1-4th position.

Do you people even think before posting such nonsensical bullshit? Do you even realise how much cricketers earn? I have travelled around the world and I know how popular Cricket is. There are many links like the one that I just provided that state how Cricket is the 2nd most popular sport in the world. Also, I don't really care whether you are willing to accept the truth or not.

No need to get ballistic when someone post the facts. If you use such rude and arrogant language for your posts, then everyone is going to add you to their ignore lists. 1. No one really care how much your cricketers earn. The fact is that cricket is essentially an Indian sport. It has hardly any influence outside India/Indian diaspora. 2. You just proved that you have never traveled outside India. This would give a better idea about the popularity of various sports: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbes%27_list_of_the_most_valuable_sports_teamshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbes%27_list_of_the_world%27s_highest-paid_athleteshttps://www.pledgesports.org/2017/06/top-10-most-popular-sports-in-the-world-by-participation/3. Cricket is not even a part of the Olympics. So I wouldn't even consider it as a "sport".

@Pffrt Agreed Khwaja playing very good cricket for Oz and it would be a big mistake if he didn't make into World cup squad. there is cutthroat but healthy competition in OZ team for the opening pair between Khwaja, Finch, and Warner.
Chances are all of them going to make in 15 men squad easily but in playing 11 only 2 can play.

Well, Finch is also playing good and no need to mention anything about Warner. However, I still think it will be better idea to keep Khawaja on XI and option from Finch and Warner, since Khawaja is playing better than Finch of course.

If I get to choose my playing XI for oz then Warner is my go-to opener any day be it Test Cricket or ODI. I highly rate him as a batsman, arguably one of the modern great. When comparing him with Khwaja (because he's new in ODI) and Finch (He sucks at Red ball cricket, so far) Warner is miles ahead of both of them and he's a complete batsman in this era. they don't come anywhere close to him despite how good they play. The only drawback for Warner is his behavior. he's considered as the bad boy by CA and not because of Sand Paper Saga. somehow he managed to piss off very important people in Australian cricket with his rebel character. For the Indian sqaud, I hope Dhoni plays this world cup as it may be the last world cup for him after which he may choose to retire. He should be the captain instead of Virat as even though Virat has proved himself, his captaincy has not been as good as Dhonis and plus this is the World Cup and the entire team has new cricketers and I miss Ashwin's bowling. They can choose Raina too.

Dhoni is a very divisive figure and he has clear bias in favor of (ex)CSK players such as Raina, Ashwin.etc. Kohli is more or less unbiased and he cares more about the team rather than about his own individual performances.

I'm not sure his batting stats in 2nd position though. Didn't find such stuffs on the reputed sports sites. Considering Khakawa's recent performance, Finch is no for me.

I would still pick Finch over Khawaja, because IMO the former is more suited to the English conditions. Khawaja is at his best when he plays in Australia or in Asia. And Finch did reasonably well during the last two ODI series (against Pakistan and India). Anyway all three should be named in the 15 member squad, and the captain can decide the composition of the playing XI depending on the conditions.

Cricket World Cup 2019: Here's when all teams will announce their squads for mega eventIndia - (April 15)
Pakistan - (April 18)
South Africa - (April 18)
Afghanistan
Recently, Afghanistan made a decision to sack Asghar Afghan as the captain of the team and handed over the responsibilities to Gulbadin Naib before the World Cup. Afghanistan have announced their 23-member preliminary squad. Before the World Cup, Afghanistan is going to play two matches against Ireland and two against Scotland.
England
World No.1 ODI team and the host of ICC World Cup 2019, have not announced the date yet when they are going to announce the World Cup squad. Prior to the World Cup, England will play six ODI matches - one match against Ireland and also a 5-match ODI series against Pakistan. The question is whether Jofra Archer is going to be part of England's World Cup team. Archer is expected to make his debut in the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan. He caught the selectors' attention after his outstanding performances in T20 leagues across the world.
Australia
The five-time World Champion have won their last eight ODIs played in India and UAE. Kangaroos have not confirmed the date about the team announcement yet, as they are yet to analyse the form of Steve Smith and David Warner, who recently resumed international cricket after serving a 12-month ban. Australia are going to play practice matches against New Zealand and have training camp scheduled in early May.
Bangladesh - (April 15-20)
West Indies
Several players from the team are currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the final selection could be based on the players' performance in the tournament. Chris Gayle and Andre Russell - two players who have done well in the tournament, are likely to be named in the World Cup squad. Windies will play alongside Bangladesh and Ireland in a tri-series before going into the World Cup.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan team is likely to announce their squad soon after the end of their Super Provincial One Day tournament. The tournament will come to an end on April 11.

I don't think Dhoni is biased as he has chosen players like Nehra earlier who nobody could trust and Nehra proved himself. Dhoni reminds me of Kapil Dev who also used to trust the players and not think about himself. Kohli's captaincy is totally different and he still remains unsure of his selection just like Sachin was earlier "always under pressure".
