This is a common misconception when people try to buy crypto for the first time.  The sad truth is that fiat is really crappy for buying things online.  Fiat is easily reversed and online fraud is rampant.  That makes selling Bitcoin for fiat online a very risky venture.  This means those who accept fiat for BTC must be extremely careful to make sure the fiat is legitimately being spent by it's owner and will not be reversed which leads to additional delays and verification processes that can be a pain.

From the perspective of the one spending fiat it makes it seem like crypto is hard to buy, but in reality it is your dirty fiat money that is hard to spend.

I mean anyone can open an account on localbitcoins and place a buy order, there is no big science on that move. The problem is to give the first steps when no one is there to show you the way. Just like anything in life.

Finally. Fiat is dirty money. I realised that for internet trading fiat money could endup withdrawn, it takes a lot of time to process transaction and it has many flaws. I started to use Bitcoin and few other alternative (like liberty reserve or perfect money). It made my job a lot easyer while at that time I was doing web design, gfx and programming so I was in a field where people who I was trading with knew for Bitcoin. Note that was around 2010 in the early days I didn't know too much about BTC except that it was open source, decentralized and possible to mine and I was happy with that.

All in all, fiat is the one that causes problems not the crypto because once you have crypto transactions are very easy and secure.

KYC was to be expected with how the crypto market as a whole literally exploded. I remember back in 2015 and even a part of 2016 I could buy €10,000 worth of Bitcoin every 24 hours and have it be sent to my wallet instantly.

Currently the process is still instant (actually, near instant since they batch transactions which could take a couple of minutes), but the difference is that you need to verify yourself right now.

That being said, looking at how people have no problems sending all their private information to garbage ICOs, they also won't have any problem sending all that personal information to compliant exchanges.

TBH, buying crypto is only difficult for people who aren't really fully interested in it. But IMO, it's one of the major components holding the currency back. If you want to buy gold or real estate, you have options such as ETFs which make it easier for common investors.

i'm not saying I fully agree with an ETF for Bitcoin (as I think it kind of defeats the purpose of Bitcoin). But if adoption is the only metric to be cared about, then the Winklevil were on to something.

Fiat still dominates the world so all we can do is go with it and deal with it. I would suggest you buy through big name exchanges because there is a bigger chance that the exchange will most likely not do you harm without a hint. One KYC verification can move you through cryptocurrency. For me, that's one of the way investments go.

It is not at all hard to buy crypto.  You can simply register on an exchange and then buy crypto through it.  There are tutorials for that as well that you can see and follow for free. However,  in order to be able to estimate the buying price so as to make good profit,  you will have to do some analysis and research.

that would still require you to convert your fiat to some other digital form (crypto token) then use that to enter that platform to trade. so the step one is still the same and that means it is changing nothing apart from introducing a nice platform for traders who want to do some decentralized trading while having anything but fiat.

Buying cryptocurrrency wasn't meant to be through third-party (like centralized exchange) in the first place. It should be peer-to-peer. Third-party platforms are pure abomination to cryptocurrrency.
A serious Crypto developer should consider developing algorithm that bans or destroys any centralized exchange that tries to list his Coins.
If you can't build exchange that is decentralized or hard to stop, don't build at all.

You forgot to add localbitcoins, site that exist for years, if you don't wish to buy bitcoins or some other crypto without any traces with hard cash you can do that with localbitcoins, just find the closest seller.
I don't get this headline, op wasn't here years ago when buying bitcoins was possible only on few places, cashing out was also tricky, depending from place you live. I think it’s depending on what country you live in; I have never used Bitcoins atm or have been buying Bitcoins face to face. But most countries you just need a visa or MasterCard to buy Bitcoins, you can also do money bank money transferee.

Coinbase is one of the simplest apps to use in the universe.

I'll agree many sellers have now started accepting bitcoins, and even some big brands have allowed it in their stores. I don't understand what you mean it's hard to learn about buying bitcoins?. There're tons of guides already on the internet, we have an active beginner section you can visit it to learn more. Also you don't need to buy bitcoins in full, you can buy as low as 1$ worth bitcoins. No one considers bitcoins dirty money, it's a ploy by banks to keep people away from bitcoins.

This is a digital currency, it's like fiat or like money which is acceptable as a payment.
I don't consider it a dirty money because this is more transparent than fiat, we have a public ledger which is the blockchain and I believe this is very helpful for the government, especially the Anti Money Laundering Council, to track transactions, they just need to properly regulate crypto to ease their job.

It would definitely be difficult for a low iq person to buy some, it's not the same as buying a product on amazon. It was a lot easier for me to set up a margin trading account than to buy some bitcoin. And being a prideful person who doesn't like giving up unecessary personal information, when it comes back that I have been declined and they want more info I didn't say it, but my thought was "F U!" It may not be the exchanges fault, I couldn't care less who made the rules, the point is there are too many hoops to jump through to buy it. I don't want to send selfies to someone on local bitcoin, I don't want to meet some stranger I don't know and exchange cash for bitcoin, nor do I wish to wire money to someone I don't know. I also don't want to pay 6 to 8k per bitcoin to avoid all this hassle just to get less than $500 worth. Firstly you are not going to get bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies on the streets for sale, we need to learn how we can buy them.
Also it is not that difficult to buy bitcoins instead if you manage good relation with the dealers than you can actually buy bitcoins anytime.

My opinion, i don't think it is too difficult to find where to buy it, if so, what are exchanges for? But I think the reason for some people not to easily trust or let go of their hard earned money for a certain cryptocurrency is they are not really sure of the would be status of the coins they wanna buy. like they have to think 100x to make sure they have chosen the right one to invest their money in.
