I’m suggesting you should buy Ethereum or maybe Bitcoin. Bitcoin is good, but mainly I will go for Ethereum. There are reasons why I’m saying you should go for Ethereum. A year profit is still depending on the market trend and due its volatility.
For having assurance that we can generate profits in a certain for that long, we just invest the most and leading coins in the market. Of course we look into BTC and ETH as the most trusted and growing coins in the market. But if you'll buying from ICO or IEO, there is no justification with that and were just afraid that it will end into nothing.

1000 $ in my opinion the amount is very large and my suggestion is, 50% you have to invest in bitcoin and the rest you have to divide by 3 coins like ETH and other coins that you think have potential and can be profitable in 1 year.
