At the moment the daemon stores ALL the blockchain in memory, so memory usage is above 3.5 Gb.
I guess that's the main reason for a 64bit only binary. I am not in touch with the dev team but there is an issue in github about this, so I guess sooner or later this will be fixed. Well, in fact this must be fixed, otherwise you will need a lot of ram to run a node.

This is a problem for many reasons but for instance you can't run a node on a cheap VPS, what makes running a node more expensive than running a bitcoin node. Also if you want to build a store around BCN you need a daemon adding more costs to your basic infrastructure.

Maybe the devs have something to say about this ?
Or are they hiding on a dark dark corner of the deep deep web ?
We can use tor you know ...

Ups, so I also need more than 3,5GB RAM to run this? So the RAM must be at least the size of the Blockchain? Is the Blockchain allready above 3,5GB? Damn, I guess I need to buy a new PC...
Edit: Now I borrowed a Laptop with 64Bit and an OS called "Windows8" which is even more strange than Linux. Whatever, the main point is: the "Bytecoind" is running and sychronizing. At the beginning there was a message, I could choose something. But I did´t get it at all, so I pressed ENTER-key. Hopefully I did not mess it up.

LOL, looks like mr. Jameson Lopp thinks MRO devs are not qualified enough: https://twitter.com/lopp/status/472360292807364609

On the other hand, Bytecoin users may sleep well - BCN devs are all right. Grin

Secondly, what is this idea of top-secret keys no one has heard of?

Several forks of bytecoin have been launched - this type of keys would have surely been mentioned somewhere already.

The basics of the whole philosophy of cryptonote and bytecoin is decentralization and anonimity - there cannot be such a thing as a secret key to destroy coins.

THIS. WTF is going on. How can someone just have his one billion coins deleted by the devs?

Nobody ever destroyed any old bytecoins.. my coins are more than year old and are safe, Ive just rechecked them.

the devs never communicate with the community, just with the team leaders (something like pools).. and the leaders have to pass the info to their group members.

looks like somebodys trolling you.. there are no news about burning, there are no such secret keys to destroy bytecoins.

Since when have you been maining BCN? And the main question: what for? Are there any other "deep web" services (except Anonimous hosting and Library Unicorn)that we don't know about?

And if it's not trolling again, could you provide some proof that you have old coins? What are those "teams"? Is there any principle behind them? How do you communicate with your "team"?

I have about 500 millions.. i learned about bytecoin from a colleague who was already on my team, so i started to mine.. sometimes i switched to other currencies, sometimes didnt mine anything

there were already services where you could spend some bytecoins but just like team websites there were all on deep web.. those teams are the info sources on the news from other teams and the devs

i cant show you those but will try to find something as a proof

500M... Not that much for a year of mining.
Why had nobody ever heard about Bytecoin? Why was it a secret all along? Have you ever told about it to other people (friends, family)?

This so called “teams” are not communicating between each other at all? There was something about the community meet ups on the old bytecoin website.

What are you going to do with all the coins? Everyone are afraid of dump… Are you still mining?

Weirdos detected. Again someone decided to pump BCN exchange rate.

Idd.

First, all coins got destroyed, then suddenly some old_bcn_deep_web_community_member arrives. Too many coincidences in a row.

This so called “teams” are not communicating between each other at all? There was something about the community meet ups on the old bytecoin website.

What are you going to do with all the coins? Everyone are afraid of dump… Are you still mining?

There was no secrets, those group are just.. isolated and have their own interests

here is a link to cryptonote tor website: http://ol346fucnsjru223.onion/ it seems like the devs abandoned it so i dont think it will harm anybody

our team doesnt want to dump anything because this coin is so unique to kill it like that.. and there is no single holder for a centralized dump

i dont mine bytecoin anymore but have some interest in other cryptonote coins because they look promising

Yeeeeeeaaaaaa, right. Some guy comes, linking some poorly (to say the least) made website, talking shit about "teams" and we suppose to believe that?

Old fat troll.

This cryptonote's website look similar to cryptonote.org. It has a little bit more scientific language and a lot of formulas, but the content is almost the same as the current website. What's more, there is a CryptoNote whitepaper dated back from December 2012. Hm.

Yes, copyright is from 2013. Apparently they’ve abandoned it and created a new one, more public oriented.

The question is why all that was happening in Tor network? All this looks too shady to me, I’m on the havanabob side - trolls are amongst us.

I've scanned through this cryptonote pdf from 2012. The content is different from the "cryptonote v2", which looks like a more sophisticated version with broader explanation, more schemes and formulas. The author is also Nick van Saberhagen, and the public key is the same as on current CryptoNote's website. Theoretically, this all can be true, which is intruguing. I have one question though, who on Earth puts "v1" on the first version of the whitepaper when there is no second version yet?
