Considering how many Bitcoin believers (maximalists) there are, with their specific beliefs of how cryptocurrency should behave, it's becoming more evident that Bitcoin is a religion. After all, this popular movement of decentralized finance has impacted our lives one way or the other. The world has its eyes on the direction of Bitcoin as a digital currency which determines the path forward of Blockchain technology. According to Google, the term "Religion" means the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. This becomes true especially when many Bitcoin followers believe that Satoshi is some sort of "god". Hence, if Satoshi would reveal himself to the public, many people will follow him. Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this?

We may be an organization, a community with the same belief about Bitcoin but we don't worship it nor Satoshi Nakamoto so I don't think we can call Bitcoin a religion. You may call it a currency that connects people but it is not something that we worship, and BTW, if that will happen with Satoshi, I guess he will never ever introduce himself.

I obviously take offence to the insinuation people have a different personal vod. On topic - religion spreads by brainwashing. Bitcoin has not been around long enough to be generational or a fable.

Religion is like a belief in spiritual aspect. Somehow affects people's tradition and culture. And I think its far from considering bitcoin as a religion. Especially we don't worship Satoshi. Satoshi is a human, not a God. He's no different from us. The thing that make him kinda special is he is the proponent of bitcoin but that doesn't mean he can be considered as a god or something. This isn't a cult or something...

I don't think that Bitcoin (and the community surrounding it) is a religion, however, it could be considered a cult when it comes to some of the more "devoted" users. I don't think that the community at large cares too much about Satoshi himself, at least in the sense that they would follow him in a cult of personality. I personally don't really care about the man behind Bitcoin, I'm glad that he made it, but it's nothing that I would consider following a person over. It's a great creation that requires a ton of technical expertise, but you don't really see a cult for someone like Einstein, do you? The only thing I could agree with you about is that Bitcoin is a cult for some, but for the majority of people and users within the community, it isn't important enough in their lives.

It can't be a religion, however it can be just a belief toward technology. But, If Bitcoin value can be controlled by few party then it is a bad belief for anyone. It's getting worse if people start worshiping Satoshi and consider him as a God, Satoshi just a "thing" with a great mind to invent Bitcoin which aims to create much changes to life.

Sathosi don't have any super power that can control the world, he just a bitcoin creator. The stronggest asset that have growing value is gold. Who create the gold? That is the only one God. Bitcoin is not a religion but it is a currency which unite many people in different country here.

@Abiky i am curious to know what you think about stocks then. Are they religion to you?
If Bitcoin price is supposedly driven by mass psychology , do you think stock prices aren't ?
And what about real estates, one of the most traditional and "religious" investment?

I do not believe in any religion that is currently in the world, religion makes people weak and tends to rely on gods. Religion spreads faith in gods, patriarchs, buddhas .. And you will be saved, that is stupid and unscientific. I only believe in the real values of life that are ahead of us, not in a distant perspective that a certain religion draws. So I like bitcoin just because it's a breakthrough technology, I'm not blind and not a bitcoin fanatic if it's not valuable for life.

Believing in something or an idea is not equivalent to a religion. Do you believe in yourself? Does it mean you are therefore a religion? Granting that when you believe in something, there can be some similarities when you are a member of a certain religion but those similarities ends in there. and not unless you are the one running your own religion, here in Bitcoin you have the chance of making some money because Bitcoin can also be considered as an investment and that is something you can never found in any religion.
This kind of shallow definition of a religion can make any membership to any club, organization, association or any group for that matter also a religion. Religion is much more than that as it involves spiritual concepts and ideas...are we spiritual here in Bitcoin? Nah, I don't think so.

I think you are an atheism , is not that simple! Relegion is pretty sensitive to be discussed. your imajination is to excessive. this is just a example : if someone give me 10$ million, will I believe that he was a God? of course not. Bitcoin or the cryptocurrencies are enough to only changed the world financial system by the Goverments, it mean bitcoin is only money and the religion it's only a path to guid the peoples to make a good things.

According to Mr. G: - a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
- a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
Isn't it?

Bitcoin is not a religion, but bitcoin is something about a way for people to create a new way to make money. That will be a mistake that makes Satoshi Nakamoto as a "GOD" because Satoshi is a human who created bitcoin and makes bitcoin to be known as a new electronic money system. Bitcoin itself helps people to solve their financial problem, and many people already prove about that.

According to Google, the term "Religion" means the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
The reason is why we wouldn't consider bitcoin as a "Religion", there is no "superhuman controlling power" of bitcoin. Bitcoin is a power, but who is controlling? Control isn't native behavior of bitcoin and that's why called it decentralized system. Satoshi just create it, he never control it or anyone else. Bitcoin is a power by itself, there is no controller and based on this calculation we can call bitcoin a "community" instead of "Religion". Community is appropriate for bitcoin and day by day its expanding.

Believing in Satoshi Nakamoto's creations does not mean you are worshipping him or anything else and it only needs some common sense to understand it, for example, if a person believes in what his/her boss said and those under the boss believes it does not mean that they are worshipping their boss, they are only obeying him in the term of believinbg if you get what I mean.

He basically stated his opinion and asked us what we thought about it which in no way means that he is running out of topics. However, I do not agree with his opinion at all since Satoshi is a human being and is no God. So many people have already treated certain people as Gods which is completely nonsensical and we need to get rid of this bullshit tradition asap.

that is the weirdest comment i have ever read in this forum! when you click the buttons on your keyboard you believe that they do a certain action. for example when you click the key with letter "c" on it you expect it to type "c" on your screen. that doesn't mean computer is a religion because you expect it to behave in a certain way and doesn't make you a computer maximalist! bitcoin is the same, it is expected to behave in a certain way (decentralized, no censorship, boarderless, immutable,...) that doesn't change anything about whoever wants these things to remain the same.

The people are rather supporting the technology that Satoshi created, which is key to what is going on with this Bitcoin community. Satoshi Nakamoto wanted to add an alternative payment option other than fiat currencies and centralized payment options that cannot be manipulated or used for political agendas and also corrupting the global financial system. <Example : Printing money like toilet paper and/or out of thin air like fractional reserve banking practices.> People wanted a better payment system without the corruption and with total transparency.

We can't connect Bitcoin with religion on so many grounds. We all know the function of Bitcoin and it's too far from any religious group's role. There are believers of Bitcoin but they believe it in a business form. We could consider them a community that has one goal and one purpose in crypto.

no, bitcoin can not be considered a religion. if it could then basically everything else like USD, JPY, EUR, GBP,... could also be considered a "religion" but then again you are bending the meaning of the word to brand bitcoin with it.
there are certain people who choose to treat bitcoin in their own ways, worship Satoshi, the developers,... as god(s) and do weird things like that but it is their own choice, and doesn't change the nature of bitcoin as a decentralized currency.

I don't know what to say but that this is one of the most foolish things about Bitcoin that I have heard. Bitcoin can not be likened to religion because their both have different features, while religion is an all encompassing phrase bitcoin on the other hand is one phase, religion is the way of worshiping God/gods while bitcoin just concentrate on financial autonomy and to say santoshi will be followed or worshipped is he come public may not be true. The only thing I can likened bitcoin to is (fraternity).

Yes, both of crypto and religion are do not exist because they are not in physical form. But, IMO crypto can be mentioned / categorized as religion because crypto can be use for transaction meanwhile religion is a people's belief. It can't be use, right ? So they are different league.

How on earth can we equate Bitcoin to religion? either in terms of worship or reverence, they aren't likened to be same. We all know Religion could change ones mindset or humans life entirely to a different form, but aren't seeing Bitcoin to be one of such. We all believe in cryptocurrency for the freedom we get from holding it, use it without the government consent, and free ourselves from slavery.

I don't think that people are worshiping Satoshi as per definition of a "God". And then there's no one to control everything, unlike in Roman Catholic religion that you have a central figure. Probably best describe as cult, with large followers around. But I don't know if there are people with excessive admiration of Satoshi. He created a invention, but that's about it, he left and we didn't know what had happen to him. Maybe those maximalist just wanted to stay with Satoshi's true vision of Bitcoin being a option for payment scheme without any third party involved.

Hardcore enthusiasm on crypto currency especially with Bitcoin cannot be a religion for the fact that its only created by humans. For me, religion is something that we can associate spiritually and a divine belief within ourselves. Bitcoin doesn't trigger that feeling and sense of spirituality and therefore cannot be considered a religion.

Well, some people say money is a religion, so if you like Bitcoin as a new form of money, if you think about it all the time and you even, as mentioned, believe in maximalism and even hyperBitcoinization, then I guess, yeah, it's a practical religion for you! But I think in general most of us here are just normal dudes trying out a new tech, and we want to be in on the thing before it becomes mainstream. But I know I check for Bitcoin news more often than I go to pray, so...

You already answered your question by quoting Google. There's no "superhuman controlling power" with Bitcoin, its technology, its usage or its creator. And we are not Bitcoin "followers", we just use the technology smart non-superhuman people gave us. But you may have a point. Bitcoin is money, and people who considered money as something that controls them considers money as their God. So yes, it can be a religion to some.

If that were the case then all the famous sports, music and other stars were like gods. We can believe in love, our famous sport club, our partner, political leader etc. but that does not mean we believe in religion. Religion is focused on inner, spiritual values and here we are talking about bitcoin only.

And I don't think they will do a silly things to Satoshi or to the developer of bitcoin and worshiping them. According to Google, the term "Religion" means the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. This becomes true especially when many Bitcoin followers believe that Satoshi is some sort of "god". Hence, if Satoshi would reveal himself to the public, many people will follow him.
there certainly are people who think Satoshi is a know-it-all and his design was flawless but i don't think the number of these "fnatics" are that many, enough to make "bitcoin" into a religion. this is like the same old question of "is bitcoin a criminal money" that is asked by some people who saw something when they were in the darknet and thought that is all bitcoin is. but these cases don't define bitcoin! there are also idiots who think earth is flat but that doesn't change the round shape of earth

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? The truth is everyone loves to associate with greatness. The remarkable performance of the bitcoin has given room for a huge followership over time.Although many may say there is nothing Devine about bitcoin, I think the fact that it has changed lives and pioneered a new way of transacting is responsible for the massive loyalty many have towards the bitcoin network.. Although I won't like to refer to bitcoin as a religion just yet, it's almost impossible to outline the Effect bitcoin has on the society..

No one has ever compared Bitcoin with religion. Once there was one similar topic, but the question was not so directly raised there. Everyone here indicated that religion has nothing to do with Bitcoin, and I agree with this statement. We should not idolize bitcoin. We see that Bitcoin is created by man. This is enough for them to have nothing in common.

I had some courses on Religious Studies, and I'd like to point out that some think that religion does not even require a divine being (it's a disputable question). If we are thinking about Bitcoin religion, Satoshi will most likely be not God, but more of a prophet. The place of God should be taken by Bitcoin itself. Some people believe in Bitcoin more than rationally. They are affectionate about the price dynamics; they sympathize other 'believers' and hate those who fight it. The problem here, though, is that God or whatever takes God's place should be distantiated from humans and out of their direct control. Bitcoin exists, and there is nothing to believe or not believe about it. And essentially it is controlled by humanity. This means that making a religion out of it is barely possible. A quasi-religious cult - now, that seems plausible.

No, not at all. Having beliefs in bitcoin does not mean we can considering bitcoin as a religion and satoshi is god, it cannot be used as a religion at all. Just like when you trade, gamble or whatever it is that at least you have to have the beliefs to choose, can it be used as a religion? No, beliefs in bitcoin is our full support for blockchain technology which believes that this technology will continue to grow in the world, but that it cannot be a religion and I don't think bitcoin is religion, if that happens I don't know what will happen later, because there are so many conversations and problems about bitcoin, I just hope that bitcoin is accepted in the world as a legitimate payment instrument.

Religion is far beyond what we experience with cryptocurrency. When compared to a religious existence bitcoin is nothing big, the technology that makes the market strong at any instance doesn't have anything to do with religion. There are people who stay away from bitcoin as they're unknown about the technology whether it is halal or not. I nsucb thinking one should not relate bitcoin to religion forever.

Nope, I consider bitcoin as a great community or organization maybe? If bitcoin was a religion then I can't join or participate here because religions are being created because of their own beliefs and desires. Bitcoin is not a belief and we can appreciate and use bitcoin for our daily life, we can see it as true money.
Bitcoin was created for the advancement and the development of society, religion is not about that. Satoshi is the master or the creator of bitcoin but he/she is not a God. There's a lot of inventors and a mad scientist who make science a wonderful thing but they're not considered as Gods of Earth, simple logic. I'm also aware that some of the modern technology is destroying religion, like devices that make people see the truth about it. Bitcoin is a technology and its blockchain was a wonderful creation that is considered as a powerful tool today.

Religion is shit which is not helpful or useful for anyone in this forum. Just to categorize the people it is been used and being used so far but bitcoin is the way to settle yourself and way to make money and etc. This is the things we have open opportunity for all the people who do hard work on this. I hope you are Islamic guy by talking about their facts. Please be anonymous do not show your anything here bro.

It never crossed my mind for Bitcoin to be a religion, others could treat it as a religion but I don't think the majority of the community would have the same mindset as these maximalist that you've mentioned. I spend a lot of time on Bitcoin but i'm not that crazy where it's starting to become a religion even if Bitcoin saved my life I would still have the same view on it.

Bitcoin and religion - these concepts are not only incompatible, but, in my opinion, have nothing in common. Bitcoin is a digital technology, a clear invention of man, a type of cashless funds. Why worship the product of human thought activity? It is not necessary to recognize that Bitcoin controls us and we are subject to it.

Well, the human being has a natural tendency to incur all kinds of excesses, impulses, emotions and fanaticisms, but that does not mean that everything that develops a certain obsession can be called "religion", and this is especially so true in the case of bitcoin, because what people really want is not the possession of bitcoin itself as a cryptographic unit, but the potential economic power that means its possession.

When Benjamin Franklin studied electricity and shared it to the world, did it became a religion? When Einstein developed the theory of relativity, did he became God?
I will not make Satoshi be compared like a God. Yes he did discovered something really great but I am following bitcoin for its future usage. If he suddenly rose out of nowhere then thank God he is still alive and I will only be following his statements on why he did it or whatever his theory is making such a great technology or its real purpose.

When I first read this thread I laughed a little bit but then I came across this comment and agree completely. I think we can choose to worship whomever we want but to call it an outright religion isn't necessarily true

No, bitcoin is not a religion, though there could be parallels with religion in how some investors behave. For example, this forum has a hierarchy with rules and expectations. The community has its own goals with expectations of behaviors. If people fall short of these expectations, they can get scolded and excommunicated.

I agree with you. How can bitcoin be a religion when we are only believing it because of its covenience and the potential it brings. It's a big difference from worshipping gods and goddesses. And even is satoshi a great genius for his discovery, it's not enough to praise him and believed him like a god.

I don't think that bitcoin is considered to be a religion. Satoshi as a God? But on another note, we never considered Satoshi as a God but just a brilliant mind who invented the "father of cryptocurrency," which is bitcoin. So nope, bitcoin is not to be categorized as religion. Just my thoughts.

...We should not idolize bitcoin. We see that Bitcoin is created by man. This is enough for them to have nothing in common.
Even if Bitcoin was created by a human, there seems to be idolatry in Satoshi. The creator of Bitcoin itself, has been largely admired by many people worldwide. We now see many project supporters who will die until the end, defending the true cause of Satoshi based on its original whitepaper. Differing cryptocurrency projects like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV have their ambitions in becoming the "original Bitcoin" (as per the whitepaper). On the other hand, Bitcoin maximalists believe that there should be one cryptocurrency in existence. Given that Satoshi is a very bright individual, many crypto enthusiasts seem to have considered him/she/they as a "god". Those who cannot follow the Bitcoin whitepaper at its entirety, are considered "anti-Bitcoin" to most of them. Nonetheless, I believe that Bitcoin is a religion in many ways. But not everyone thinks the same depending on their point of view. What matters is that Bitcoin is a useful decentralized cryptocurrency for the world, rather than just a movement. Just my opinion

If Satoshi comes out and reveal himself he will be having a fan following and he is still a tech god and financial genius as he created a market which is worth multi billions and will be a trillion dollar market by the next rally but with every religion, the main attraction for everyone is the money flowing through it and in that sense too you can call bitcoin a religion We should not idolize bitcoin. We see that Bitcoin is created by man. This is enough for them to have nothing in common.
If that is the case, hope you have heard about Edmund Creffield, Charles Manson, David Koresh and you can list a lot of people who was considered as God by a rather large group, well Jesus was a man too .

You have a broad mind, OP. Believing in bitcoin and condescent with Nakamoto doesn't mean we consider bitcoin as a religion and doesn't mean Satoshi is our GOD. I do have my own religion and own beliefs. Bitcoin is just like some other assets that we carefully treat and care. It doesn't make any sense that we consider it as a Religion if we are a believer of bitcoin. We are the patronizers.

We are the same think of, ain't really get the point of the idea of asking this to the forum. How could Bitcoin become a religion? Although we have an independent community as the forum itself only had the .05% population of Bitcoin enthusiast, it doesn't mean we are considered as a religion. You have to make sure to understand the meaning of religion first and recognize the difference of it to a community, organizations, and finance.

Rather than worshipping Satoshi, almost everyone admires and supports his work of art, which introduced a revolutionary payment system method. Well we cannot escape extremist who literally worships 'Satoshi' but stating that the whole bitcoin work is a religion is too far fetched. I never considered a piece of technology escalating to being worshipped by some. No, bitcoin is not a religion, though there could be parallels with religion in how some investors behave. For example, this forum has a hierarchy with rules and expectations. The community has its own goals with expectations of behaviors. If people fall short of these expectations, they can get scolded and excommunicated.
Bitcoin can never be a religion. It is a revolutionary piece of technology wherein people are obsessed knowing the true identity of its creator. Although there may be some similarities (like you mentioned), there are still factors to be considered especially that bitcoin has only been in existence less than 15 years.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? I will not consider bitcoin as a religion or satoshi as a god, because I already have a religion and already have a god, I will not look for another god. for me bitcoin is a currency that can give me benefits by means of trading and investing. in my opinion satoshi is an organization that establishes crypto currencies and they hide so that their identity is not revealed. the biggest problem at the moment is that governments in various countries do not accept bitcoin as a payment tool because this cryptocurrency or bitcoin is not clear which company founded bitcoin and where it is, that's why bitcoin is difficult to accept as legitimate payment.

Religion comes when there are a number of casts into the community. Here in the decentralised community everyone belongs to the same cast known as "Blockchain Tecnhonlogy" so there is no question which arise between religion. I think bitcoins should not be considered a religion and instead we can commonly trust the decentralised markets and have faith in them similar like we have faith in god. "Satoshi" is our common god in here who has created a beautiful algorithm of the bitcoins and he owns immense respect for it. Religion brings terror which may not end up good so bitcoins should always be kept far away from religion.

Don't think bitcoin it is ideal to see bitcoin as a god not to even think of it being a religion. Nobody would worship bitcoin for sure, just because we are impressed by Satoshi for developing the blockchain technology which have also given birth to so many things does not mean everybody would follow his directions and command if he appears. I am sure most people may not believe in some of his policies regarding bitcoin so how do you expect all of us to follow him and see him as a god.

No, Bitcoin is not refer any religion. It's a community based online forum where people buy, sell or trade by using it to exchange it by various money and it depends on their consent. Actually, Bitcoin is a consent based crypto currency as I think and it is used in various purposes. So, it can be said that Bitcoin isn't considered a religion.

On the other hand, Bitcoin maximalists believe that there should be one cryptocurrency in existence.
Bitcoin maximalists mostly aren't that rational, especially not when it comes to BSV minions. Even if Bitcoin scales for the entire world, people will still use other crypto currencies just because they can, or offer more upwards potential. What's the difference between those who say Bitcoin should be the only currency or governments saying there should only be fiat and nothing else? Nonetheless, I believe that Bitcoin is a religion in many ways. But not everyone thinks the same depending on their point of view. What matters is that Bitcoin is a useful decentralized cryptocurrency for the world, rather than just a movement. Just my opinion It's a subjective matter indeed. I personally don't see it as a religion myself, but have seen many in the BSV and XRP camp who do so.

Religion brings a lot of restrictions and regulations which are not at all present in the blockchain technology. Bitcoins offer various freedom and the ease to use and also it does not restrict any of the individuals may be those are rich or poor, blind or deaf, or maybe any one. Bitcoins should never be considered as a religion. Bitcoins are something unique in themselves and I agree with you that we should not idolize bitcoins. Bitcoins were created by the humanity for the use and benefits of the humanity itself. Bitcoins could be controlled by us and it is not bitcoins which controls us. There really is nothing much common between bitcoins and religion.

Although there may be some similarities (like you mentioned), there are still factors to be considered especially that bitcoin has only been in existence less than 15 years. but bitcoin doesn't have rules? freedom is everything in cryptocurrency, so I don't think religion requirements exist in bitcoin. You don't need to be confused about this, you don't need to do any obligation like what religion has to do, just do what you want in Bitcoin. Right Bitcoin is a masterpiece of a technological development in the financial sector

Bitcoin can never be consider as religion. Why do you want to see bitcoin as a religion ? According to the dictionary definition, Religion is the belief in a reality beyond what is perceptible by the senses, and the practices associated with this belief. Or A particular system of such belief, and the rituals and practices proper to it. Bitcoin is a digital form of fiat which operates on a peer to peer decentralized system. Bitcoin do not qualify to be a belief or practices by a group of people.

Can Bitcoin be considered a religion, I think it's too much. religion is a very strong belief consists of rules guidance and obligation, but bitcoin is only limited to technology created by humans there is no guidance there to do good to fellow humans,so bitcoin doesn't qualify as a religion.

very bad if talking bitcoin as a religion. bitcoin is like a currency, bitcoin can be expressed as an asset, so I think bitcoin can be used for things that might be useful. but if it is associated with the bitcoin religion it is very far away.

A religion is someone who has a supernatural power that can change everything according to their rules/law and not with a digital currency which is made by a mere human. I think people got it the wrong way of worshipping a digital currency or a human which is not totally perfect.
Bitcoin is just a new term for money in this new era of technology. If people tend to worship Bitcoin, how about those people in the old age? Are they worshipping the golds and silver too?

The move for the decentrazation is huge and also bitcoin has truly changed the way we perform transactions. Yes the idea has changed our perception about some things however bitcoin is driven by technology and not blind fellowship some religion preaches. Satoshi should not be seen as a god either but a genius that is changing the world.

Believing to bitcoin doesn't translate to worshipping it. Besides Satoshi is not a God his a human so I don't think it fair to consider Bitcoin as a religion.

LOL, If people worship Bitcoin why don't they worship money first? Money has a lot of use than Bitcoin in the real world and you can also buy Bitcoin using fiat money if that makes sense. Well said, that is absolutely correct, Bitcoin has no connection with or something related to religion and if religion is all about money the world will surely be in chaos right now. And if people will worship Bitcoin why don't they worship the one who created the internet first? without the internet, there will be no Bitcoin trading or any transactions be made if you know what I mean.

No of course not 🤣 Seems funny though thinking about it , a religion is something that answers our questions like : When did world Start , what would happen in the future , who are we a part of , who is watching over us etc..etc.. I cannot imagine Bitcoins answering questions like :- The bulls are watching over you , if you be a good boy/girl you will soon see some hike 😌 Well not every definition on Google is true , some are deeper within us .🤣

A religion is a believe that others have about a specific spiritual being. Bitcoin cannot be considered as a religion but rather a currency. Even if people believe in it and are ready to die for it, it is not a religion.

When Satoshi put forth the innovation he was clear that there is no discrimination in its usage. Every level of people needs to use it, and the same is being made possible throughout. If bitcoin is considered a religion there will be some discrepancies and with that people will stop using bitcoin. Upon the same it should never be relative to any religion or should be considered a religion.

Not a religion, maybe a cult, as a religion should include the worship of a god, a mystical force, a supreme creator, not just a man like Satoshi Nakamoto. Even in old Persia, king Xerxes, the god-king, wasn't the central personality of the local religion. Even the god-king was subordinate to something bigger and more complex.

Completely agree with all you guy. To say frankly, it's quite nonsense to consider bitcoin a "RELIGION" compared to inherent definition of religion. If human beings worship bitcoin or the one who invented it, i mean Satoshi Nakamoto as a God, so maybe many sorts of things in the world are able to become a religion, such as gold, silver, internet, and so on. Anyway, Satoshi Nakamoto, who invented bitcoin, is a genius and should be considered one of the greatest inventor in this century, not a God. In conclusion, bitcoin is not suitable to call as a religion.

In a way, Bitcoin has a set of laws in which it works. It abides by the blockchain and a general consensus for transactions. The cryptocurrency also has a tremendous community which supports it and is constantly being improved within the ecosystem. When you think about all of the developers, investors, miners, and entrepreneurs that utilize Bitcoin in their daily business, and the fact that it is decentralized, Bitcoin can and probably will be considered a "religion" by some people.

In my opinion, this is not a very good comparison. There is nothing in common between bitcoin and religion. Religious leaders may even even rebel for such a comparison, and they will be completely right. To compare an obvious product of human activity, its technical invention with religion, is completely inappropriate.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? Have you visited this " Politics & Society " section? See: Why do Atheists Hate Religion? Why so many people say "Muslims are terrorists" Should we say that?religion is the kind of subject that never ends well... so do not push bitcoin into the religious world. Well let me give you a different scenario. For the sake of an example let's assume that you are one of the Los Angeles Lakers' fans and all of you "believe" in your team that they will be champions once again will that make your Lakers team a religion to yourself? Of course not even if you believe and worship your team it doesn't make them your religion it doesn't give you the belif that something up above is higher from us, and it doesn't make us believe that something is right or wrong on how the world needs to work. Believing on a material thing is entirely different on believing in faith.

While many idolize and believe in the creator of Bitcoin's ideas and goals, this does not necessarily make him/her a "god-like" figure, or give him/her the ability to organize a religion around the BTC community. Yes, the definition of religion loosely encompasses the characteristic's of Bitcoin's followers. However, if you want to tackle this question legitimately, it is more important to ask what is required for a religion to actually become a religion. These things include: - Distinct legal existence -Recognized creed and form of worship -Formal code of doctrine and discipline -Literature of its own -Established places of worship So, is Bitcoin a religion? No. But who knows, maybe one day it can become one

There are no GODs between Bitcoin or any other Cryptocurrency so why should it be considered Religion lmao? Religion is when there are gods in between and where u pray for them.... And you are just not praying for Bitcoin, you are waiting for something to happen just like Price being pumped or not.

I think not. bitcoin and religion are very different concepts. Rather, on the contrary, the less religious a society is, the more developed and supportive it is to cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is a science, and religion is a drag on it.

Like they will worship their Almighty Satoshi? There is no way that a tech can be considered religion. Religion is based on spiritual beings. But a long time a ago, I encountered a thread on this forum that they are a religion surrounding bitcoin but I know that it is a entire scam when on the details that they will need all the members to donate satoshis on them.

yes that was right . they worship the good ol satoshi nakamoto and they worship bitcoin because we cannot deny that bitcoin was too useful and it provides people a source of income . all bitcoin users have a solid faith in bitcoin . we trust bitcoin no matter what happens to its price because this was the only way to feel confident despite the hardships that we have experience .

Or you don't worship any businesses that you've set up just because it enabled you to buy a car or ay for whatever lifestyle you're living. The connection is laughable at the very least.

First of all, I do not believe or see bitcoin is a god or Satoshi is! and there is no point of believing that. and by the way, if you are following bitcoin as a religion then maybe you can not use altcoins as they will be considered different religions too. but for me, I like to play with many different and even many new altcoins in the market. for me, they are just a bunch of numbers which does not make sense and people let me exchange them for money.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with religion. This is a product of new blockchein technology, a product of human invention. There is no deity and nothing supernatural here. How can you call Bitcoin religion? This is just stupid.
Exactly, religion and bitcoin are two different thing and should not be compared just because some people were believing in bitcoin. Well its not because they think btc can save them after life but because of the potential earnings they can get once the value skyrocket.

If bitcoin is a religion, then fiat money is also a religion. Fiat money is paper and you believe you can walk into a chop, give the owner the piece of paper you hold and you get something in return, this means you believe in fiat money too to get what you desire. Bitcoin is just an online money which people are happy using especially based on the fact that its beyond the control of government. People want it to become the number currency and thats is why we all want it to be adopted as soon as possible.

If Satoshi comes out and reveal himself he will be having a fan following and he is still a tech god and financial genius as he created a market which is worth multi billions and will be a trillion dollar market by the next rally but with every religion, the main attraction for everyone is the money flowing through it and in that sense too you can call bitcoin a religion I'm sure that most people will follow Satoshi simply because he/she is a genius. There's no doubt about it. Not to mention, Satoshi has a hefty sum of Bitcoin that’s worth a ton of money these days. Additionally, he/she will gather fame and extreme popularity around the world once he/she discloses himself/herself to the public. Bitcoin believers would follow Satoshi's footsteps every way, probably associating him as a sort of "god". If there's already a "Church of Cannabis" ( see here), there could be a "Church of Bitcoin" someday. This may sound silly but given how many things or individuals people idolize these days, anything's possible. All in all, Bitcoin surely makes us united as crypto enthusiasts by liberating our economy for the first time in history. If it wasn't for this invention, we wouldn't had been able to transact without barriers in the free world. Just my opinion

Having a lot of believers doesn't mean it can be considered a Religion. Besides, Satoshi Nakamoto is a human, his not a God how come it can be considered a religion. A lot has been drawn to bitcoin nowadays because a lot is getting a good sum of money from bitcoin.

In my opinion, bitcoin can’t be considered a religion because it’s an internet money and it’s fairly new to be considered as one. Maybe you can call the group of maximalist as a cult because it has a supreme leader who made all the rules in the name of Satoshi Nakamoto if he is just one person. For me, I consider it as a group of people who believes that our monetary system can be change to just one currency. I’m using some of my bitcoin to play some games and hodl majority of it.

In any case, I don’t think Bitcoin is a religion. It’s not something people are born into, for one, which is a hallmark of any religion. It’s not something that requires worship, for another. It is something which requires critical thought, but it’s the only religion I’ve ever seen without a single leader, but instead numerous people who lead in different directions. At present it is facing a schism which could be detrimental to its future, don't involve bitcoin with religion.

I do not think Bitcoin is religion can be considered as. Religion is a different matter, religion is a place of faith. Religion refers to an entire life system. I think Bitcoin should not be considered as a religion. Yes, Bitcoin is now a popular cryptocurrency and much more influential. Most people prefer Bitcoin to a higher price because Bitcoin is the best from other cryptocurrencies. And people are now benefitting using Bitcoin, but still, it is not right to consider Bitcoin as a religion. Religion and Bitcoin are two different things. Religion is the place of belief and the life system of creation, and Bitcoin is a valuable cryptocurrency.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? i do not see the relevance of this comparison its two very different things to begin with. Have you heard of a Bitcoin Church? none right.?

It's funny to think about this topic but there's a possibility on it for what I've know only idiots will worship Satoshi for making Bitcoin and because of the they're earning but if you're mind is still normal you would only think of satoshi as a modern genius maybe like a modern Tesla who created electricity that we all using but satoshi only create a p2p network and through him a lot of new projects that exist today using the blockchain to control or be used to run their platforms.
Maybe a modern revolutionary is one of a great description.

You never knew how twisted the mind of human is. Though, I do not think Bitcoin can be considered a religion. There are fanatics and extremist in both sides (bears/bulls the heck there is also sheeps). I do agree that there maybe some cult since there are factions regarding their stance on Bitcoin either in development and in the market. And I won't be surprised if oneday, someone will go outside this forum and teach about Satoshi being a god,

To some extent, I would say that many, if not all btc users believe in the idea behind it and we all believe that it will go very high in terms of its value but to see it as a religion, I don't think so. Frankly speaking, I hardly hear people discuss Satoshi as a person. All we do care about, mostly is the value and so there is nothing like a religion in btc.

Because Bitcoin has become popular and globalized this as well as religions when transmitting the faith to people but when Bitcoin sharply reduced people leaving it this way against religion when believing them forever. Therefore, I think Bitcoin is just the big attraction of the era of booming information technology for those who want to get rich quick. It is more materialistic than religious belief.

I think there are many enthusiasts who love everything about bitcoin, in fact there should be anonymous associations where their usual subject is bitcoin, and their meetings are to exchange, it is not far from being a religion for many, but I think that Religions are for a Celestial Being with God Heavenly Father.
However there are many who have even invented bitcoin prayers to do well, which seems to me exaggerated but they really exist, and around the world there are people who are advocates of Bitcoin at all costs, so much so that they make it a religion if we take it to the diplomatic plane. In my country due to the high inflation that occurs, many bitcoin followers work either doing some trading and based on projects where they earn altcoins and pass them to bitcoin, it is very common to see them as small associations where they take it as seriously as a religion, of course, this is because of the magnitude of the situation that exists.

I don’t think this is a religion now because we don’t worship bitcoin, we just want the price to go up and make money. We are thankful to the work of Satoshi Nakamoto but i don’t worship him because i don’t know who he is and he might be a member of a terrorist so worshiping him is not a good one.

Although I have resisted thinking that my attachment to issues related to bitcoin have nothing to do with a religious issue, to be honest sometimes I think that deep down there is much of that in my expectations regarding bitcoin. Having lost hope in today's society, the emergence of bitcoin has given me a new motivation, and I have even come to think that my only hope for a better future, for "saving my soul" is in bitcoin, because in fact, if the bitcoin fails I will fail, and if the bitcoin advances, I will advance.
If that is not a "religion", I do not know what else it can be.

But I don't think Satoshi is a terrorist. If he is, I think he will not be releasing this in the public since this can just be their way to send money to each other. If he is, then I guess his plan is to just make the price go up and that's it. They have a medium of trading they can use to maybe buy firearms but as I said, I don't think he is. All I know is that a lot of people are earning a lot of money from cryptocurrencies and I know that I don't worshipped or look at Bitcoin as a religion.

Why do we have to see Satoshi as God just because of his invention to technology, precisely, in the field of online payment. Amazon, facebook and a lot of invention has more useful than a mere bitcoin and their founders are known public but we don't deem it as a religion ,hence don't see any reason we should ascribe religion to Bitcoin and make Satoshi as a divine being.

Wait I just thought of something, WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE CHURCH OF NOT PAY TAX? unless it is bitcoin transaction fees. Canada allows Muslims to drive motorbikes with no helmets because it will mess up there turban thing. What if in our religion it was against the law to hold fiat and we were allowed to sell booze and weed and people had to accept of CHURCH OF NOT PAY TAX money supply, because we said so.

It is ridiculous to link crypto-currency with religion. IMO, we should not limit the usage of crypto to any particular religious or ethnic group. Satoshi invented Bitcoin, so that it can be used as a decentralized currency by everyone with basic computer knowledge and mathematical skills. It is not incompatible with any of the mainstream religions or sects.

A very silly question if bitcoin is used as a religion? Bitcoin is not worshiped but is sought and owned or bought and then sold to get benefits that can change the economy or our lives get better, and it is also based on efforts and hard work and strong patience to produce maximum profits. and I don't understand the meaning of bitcoin as a religion?

Its not a silly question imo but its a legit and good question because bitcoin nowadays is really mistaken as a religion because people hail and worshiped it . they think bitcoin is too good because it provides them income and a good service as well . people slowly gains a faith and trust on bitcoin . they need it so that they can hodl longer I don't understand the meaning of bitcoin as a religion?
The answer is already laid above . bitcoin literally was not really a religion but its likely simmillar to religion

Yes it’s true that bitcoin has a lot of believers right now but it doesn’t mean that we can consider it as a religion. Besides, Satoshi Nakamoto is not a God so I think it’s not right that we consider it as a religion.
From the early days we've got more very few religions, further more and more religion came into existence from the one that are ages old. This happens when a certain group form a community and follow something different from the parent religion. This way I believe there is possibility for a new religion to come into existence in future if bitcoiners come together praising Satoshi as God. Possibilities were low, still can happen as people have begun to relate bitcoin with religion.

Who does consider Satoshi Nakamoto as God? An idol maybe because of what he do but not God. I dont even know people who take the same. Also , people dont believe in any unknown force bacause bitcoin has its blockchain and datas that can be refered into.

You can't rule out anything. There are new religious movements in every nook and corner of the world, which worship certain individuals as re-incarnations of god. For example, Jim Jones claimed that he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and he had tens of thousands of followers. So I can't rule out a possibility in which someone in the near future creates a new religious sect with Satoshi as the god.

It does not barely mean that because people believe into Bitcoin is that it will already be considered as a religion because it is a two different things. Bitcoin is a part now of our technology and religion is into spiritual aspects so it is really to far to connect Bitcoin as a rising up religion because it is not. There are cases that meanings must not be taken literally because it depends on the situation.

I think Satoshi Nakamoto is not GOD or God, which is indeed he who created bitcoin and he is genius and intelligent but he cannot be considered a god so even though Satoshi Nakamoto published himself he would not be called a god or god, people only looked he is a very genius person who can make bitcoin and all cryptocurrency, which is very popular throughout the world

Yeah, Bitcoin is not a religion, and it cannot be. But maybe in the future, some people use bitcoin as religion, and they worship bitcoin as their god because they thought bitcoin help them to solve the problem Let bitcoin like it's way and help us to make money and no need to think about Bitcoin can be considered as a religion because we already have religion for our life.

Agreed. Bitcoin has many uses and purposes, but being a religion is not one of them. A religion can be defined as a belief in something that is super-natural, which has the power to control something. There is nothing super-natural regarding Bitcoin, unless you can prove that Satoshi Nakamoto is an alien, who invented Bitcoin while he was cruising in his space-shuttle.

I do not think Bitcoin can be considered as a religion. Religion is a place of faith and Bitcoin is a dominant currency. I do not think Bitcoin should be considered as a religion. Religion is a life system by great creation that people believe and try to live like that. On the other hand, Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that people use for their different purposes.
Thank You

You think so, this is beyond human reason, I believe that Satoshi Nakamoto is a genius to create bitcoin, and I think if it is associated with the religion of bitcoin it is very far. Bitcoin is not a religion and it should not be considered as a religion. Did you ever though of USD or Fiat be a religion ? No. So why would anyone take bitcoin as a religion ?

People sometimes tend to worship things without even knowing about it, Look at the fans of celebrities and sports teams who sometimes cry, refuse to eat and in some cases commit suicide when their teams lose a crucial match. I think in recent times, Bitcoin has followers like these celebs and sports teams.

I have spend nearly 4 years in bitcoin field, but i never heard to anyone who said that bitcoin is religion, only you are one who using this word for bitcoin. Hundred times, we use it that bitcoin is currency and it has no physical appearance, so just use it and try to earn profit from it.

Exactly. This same situation happened with cannabis though, as now there a Church of Cannabis see here. Imagine, if someone came up with a "Bitcoin Church" and proclaimed that Satoshi was some sort of a "god". It sounds crazy, but it's widely possible these days. After all, in the US, there's freedom of worship. Which means, that anyone can worship anything and create a religion out of it. Nonetheless, many people nowadays (including me) are curious to know who Satoshi is. If his/her/their identity gets revealed, I believe that many will follow him because of his "glorious" creation (which is Bitcoin and the Blockchain). And once that happens, we might see Bitcoin Churches appearing at different regions of the world. Just my thoughts

Now if we relate it to religion automatically after few years time people will start worshiping it as a God as it has got some similarities of just can be viewed and one cannot touch and feel. Also religious fight too can explode in the name of bitcoin. One need to be so clear that it is just an asset that has got multiple usage.

What nonsense? What is the religion, the maximum why it can be called religion is because everyone who is here does not believe in God, but has a cryptocurrency. Because I think that this is the economy and not a religion.
Certainly it cannot be equated with a religion that is believed to be that which is related to God, because bitcoin is a digital currency that is 100% business, which is related to profit or loss. From these thoughts it is clear to see bitcoin from the business side, which can be a profitable profession if it gets more profit, but it can also be a side business if investment is done with ease and long-term HODL. The main goal is profit.

Agree, bitcoin has created a very strong community and has attracted a lot of fans over the years through the actions and profits it brings but everything should stop at a good investment, should not continue to consider it as a religion. Because this is a very inappropriate definition when religion refers to a supernatural force, a spiritual element, a symbol of the spirit, and bitcoin really can't reach that level, it lacks so many things, a little profit and thinks it's religious, it's really funny.

Well, no one knows who Satoshi is (which fits your description quite nicely). He/she can't be viewed or felt physically. Given how brilliant the inventor of Bitcoin is, there's no doubt that many people will follow him/her if he/she reveals himself/herself to the public. Sure, Bitcoin is good for making profits and using it as an alternative store of value like Gold. But, there's something more to it than meets the eye. The inception of Bitcoin has changed our lives one way to the other. The years that have passed since then, has made us stronger as a community. There are many Bitcoin evangelists out there, spreading the word about this exciting revolution of money. Which, in some sense, Bitcoin could be considered as a religion (in my opinion). Nonetheless, religion or not, Bitcoin surely had an impact in our lives in many ways. Hence, if Bitcoin didn't emerge back in 2009, we wouldn't have been independent from traditional Fiat as we are nowadays.

your perception is wrong, Bitcoin today, turned into a primary need, the BTC community is not a religion, but the popularity of BTC today is very high. and the world's enthusiasm for crypto is huge. we don't worship BTC. we only use BTC as a primary need to fulfill our daily needs.

If you consider belief as religion then you really hit the point but the main problem is whether the other crypto believers really consider it as religion? It will depend on how you define religion by yourself, as in my part I am only a crypto believer who really support the continuous grow of crypto currency.
And to my definition of religion, my belief in crypto currencies are too far to compare it as religion. Though the crypto community is keep on evolving but it doesn't mean that we are a religion already. And I didn't consider Satoshi as "God" even if he/she was the creator of bitcoin.

Anything can be considered a religion. To do this, just enough of your faith and the faith of others in the subject that you will worship. It can be bitcoin or a teddy bear. Already there are many religious sects and cults that worship all garbage. The question is whether in the 21st century, in the heyday of technical progress, is it necessary to create any religious cults? It smells like an anachronism. It is better to just enjoy all the benefits that progress gives us and create new ones.

I think that faith and religion are not the same. We can have faith in bitcoin, love, sport club etc. but religion is different. Religion is connected with spirituality, holy boolsm, doctrine about salvation etc. From this viewpoint bitcoin is not religion but we can have faith in btc

First of all, I don't want to create a debate about this matter. I just feel to give my "two cents" for this topic. Blockchain and Cryptocurrency is a great discovery and invention but I don't think we should worship him as "god". We believe in Cryptocurrency but not to the extent that we will be create a religion and make Satoshi Nakamoto a "god". There are great inventions also and great inventors who are known, why we don't consider them a sort of "god"? One answer will be appropriate I think. It is because we already know that it will not be appropriate and would be an insult to our One and Only True God.

I understand your viewpoint. However, religious people will certainly blame you and the guy who asked if BTC could be considered something like a religion. As for me, Bitcoin can become an addiction for some people.

so that means if I follow bitcoin I will be a bitcoin! and what if I secretly trade altcoins too? will I be punished or will be guilty of any kind. I don't know how it works but seems impractical concept too me. I can't change a religion whenever I want but I can change cryptocurrencies whenever I want. does being Religion provides any additional benefits to my life or does it provides any security to my coins.

Bitcoin has a large user community and plenty of developers who have been keeping it healthy and strong. There is a strong base of businesses and corporations which support Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Overall, many people support Bitcoin on forums and on the Bitcoin and BTC subreddits.

I think bitcoin is very far from what is religion. Because religion is a matter of connection to god, and bitcoin is a way of investment. If you love crypto whether you have faith in it, you are only called crypto enthusiast, not a person who worship crypto.

Have faith in bitcoin but also have bigger faith in God as he created everything. I am not a religious person but I don't consider bitcoin as religion, for one simple explanation, bitcoin is money, and I don't worship money.
I'll respect whatever you think about the topic as when it comes to religion, it's a never ending debate.

Bitcoin is a Cryptocurrency where we can access thru the internet. We may have faith in Bitcoin, but treating it as an religion is not one of the things that we should do. Bitcoin has united a lot of people who are willing to learn about Blockchain and other Cryptocurrencies available in the industry and i guess that is the best way how Bitcoin works, we support it that way.

In fact, not all religion are connected with God. Some religion believes in Heaven or ultimate being. Yes, many people have faith in bitcoin but worship is connected with religion, with our spirituality, and bitcoin is about money and investment. Of course still is possible that someone can officially register bitcoin church as Satoshi like new God or Jesus

Youade a very clear point bitcoin is a currency and God is a creator and religion is the way to worship God and calling bitcoin a religion then before you know it people start worshiping bitcoin and start making some image as a symbol. But in all there is a difference between bitcoin and religion.

Oh no, a religion is a group of people who have come together and have a belief in a supreme God or an extraordinary being. Bitcoin is simply a cryptocurrency backed by block chain technology and does not have any spiritual being.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? Religion is a cultural system of designated behaviors and practices, morals, worldviews, texts, sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that relates humanity to supernatural, transcendental, or spiritual elements. However, there is no scholarly consensus over what precisely constitutes a religion. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion ) I think that no one considers Satoshi as a God (at least never in any source, on the forum or in personal communication, I haven't come across the fact that he was equated with God). Religion is something else. After all, no one called, for example, Etienne Lenoir a God for the fact that he designed the first reliably working internal combustion engine. Yes, Satoshi (whether it is one person or the development team) created something extraordinary, but this can in no way cause him to be treated like God, and Bitcoin, like religion.

The question is what you say, is it true that bitcoin is considered a religion? it all depends on the criteria of each person who can make it happen. if we are crazy about bitcoin, it can make us glorify bitcoin compared to others. but I think many are more rational in uncovering this, and making bitcoin an addition or main job in giving a better life, and it doesn't violate.

It's very personal, and much depends on what to consider as "religion." Btc can be called a religion in the same sense money is called a religion. If bitcoin is one of the many forms of money (goods are money, stocks are money, property is money), then it can be considered as "religion" to the same extent money is religion. But btc is just a storage value/payment means/investment tool. There's not too much fundamental differences, but they are. The nature is the same however.

In my opinion, it is even silly to talk about this topic. Believers may even be offended by such a comparison. Religion is characterized by faith in the creation of man by the highest divine powers. What does Bitcoin have to do with it - the result of the introduction of the new technology of human hands?

How is the use of Bitcoin be compared or be considered as a religion? People spending their whole time to monitor or invest in Bitcoin does not qualify it as a religion. If I may ask, do you really understand what religion is and the characteristics of a religion ?? How can a digital asset and currency be considered as a religion??

in my opinion you are misinterpreting because religion is a human belief in a supreme god who is not against digital currencies (cryptocurrency) please differentiate it and if indeed Satoshi Nakamoto opens himself to the public then people will only admire him as a person who brought great changes to the world like Albert Einstein

God is everything and we can’t worship the wrong one especially the money. We have faith with bitcoin but it can’t be a religion. Maybe bitcoin created a huge group of people but the purpose is not to worship but to enjoy its technology, to transact to one and another, and to earn money as well. Bitcoin is the top coin but its not good to worship it, better to love and support bitcoin.

I've seen how many people desire to follow Satoshi's footsteps every way. Several competing crypto projects have been on a debate regarding following "Satoshi's Vision" proposed on the original Bitcoin whitepaper (like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV). Other people have been desperate trying to find out who Satoshi is. Given that the creator of Bitcoin is still a mystery person which cannot be seen (similar to a god), but it still has many followers/believers, there's a possibility that Bitcoin is a religion after all. The genius inventor of Bitcoin if unmasked, could bring an uprising towards the entire crypto industry. Still, I could be wrong after all. But, knowing that now there's a "Church of Cannabis", makes me wonder whenever a "Church of Bitcoin" or a "Church of Satoshi" would exist someday. There's even a "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" nowadays ( see here). Hence, anything's possible in this uncertain world. Just my opinion

That's the same of some Environmentalists believing the earth as being a living organism, with its own rules which we must obey.

Yes, religion is a belief that has existed since we were born who was convinced to determine us in the next world. bitcoin is just an advance in digital technology that can help our lives better, especially in the fields of finance or economics. I do not agree if bitcoin is treated as a religion that must be worshiped and that is the same as Mushrik and is strictly forbidden by my religion.

Science and technology can become a religion https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/ScientismWhen you talk about algorithms, you are talking about mathematics. Mathematics has a very close relation with philosophy for centuries, mathematicians were at the same time philosophers until the last century, as good as each major logician was a philosopher, phylosophy has a very close relation with religion

This topic sounds just too ridiculous to me, but hey, you never know with humans, they are full of surprise i tell you i won't be surprise to see some people already see Mr Satoshi as a being worthy of worship, lol! people are so easily manipulated just like btc or those who hodls shit load of btc can manipulate the market to suit their personal interest, Why would any sane person want to see btc as a religion? i mean if there are actually such people around, what do they do? buy some btc and put it in their wallet and then print out the details in a sheet of white paper, place it in a corner of their room or wherever and sing some praise song? Ridiculous! @OP hope you are not getting any funny ideas because that is a waste of time and very ridiculous act btc is meant to be traded not to be taken as a religion just my 50cent

Anything can be worshipped by people who strongly believed it is superior to him or anything miraculously related. So the answer is yes. But if its bitcoin then it's insanity just like how first people worshipped stones and some artifacts. But it's nothing to be shocked of because there are a lot of them that you can see in the internet.

This is as ridiculous as saying that the Euro or the USD can be considered as a religion. Users who are in favor of crypto-currency can be classified as having a unique political ideology. IMO, most of the Bitcoin users are Libertarian as far as their political leaning is considered. But in this case the political ideology does not have any links with any religious group.

This topic is shit. Bitcoin is just a digital asset and not something you need to praise for. It is also ironic to combine technology and religion. Me as an intellect will be more into technology rather than stupid religions that all going to do is to praise a fictional character from a book made from centuries ago.

It will be very Absurd for anyone to consider btc as a religion, that will be a very bad idea to even think it let alone put it into practice, it is okey to find the technology fascinating and intriguing but taking it up as a religion is unnecessarily, the world is full of different individuals with different ideas and views so you never know, i won't rule out the possibility because people do weird stuff all the time.

I think that is a wrong perception. We want earn more bitcoin because it is money. Sathosi don't have any super power that can control the world, he just a bitcoin creator. The stronggest asset that have growing value is gold. Who create the gold? That is the only one God. Bitcoin is not a religion but it is a currency which unite many people in different country here. Very well said, some people are having wrong perception about bitcoin to the point they wanted to relate it to become a religion. Satoshi is a human who was able to create a currency that helped many people but he is nothing compared to god thus bitcoin cannot be considered a religion.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? We might say that we do follow satoshi due to his innovative invention but we wont really come to a point on where we do already treat its as a religion. Its a different story comparing between religion and simply a community that do support Bitcoin.Theres no divine intervention on this matter so I don't see any relation at all. In the strictest sense of the word, bitcoin or being a part of the world of cryptocurrency can never be considered or be compared to that of following a deity or a God. Yes, of course, there can be some similarities of expression of human emotions like fanaticism, loyalty, positivism, joyfulness but those are not exclusively expressed on to something but generally on anything in our human experiences. Nobody is treating bitcoin as a god even if there are certainly many people who seems to be guided by money all their lives.

That is so much love for bitcoin if people will consider it as a religion, they are out of their mind if they think that way. Bitcoin is just digital money or crypto money, nothing special to it as without people it has no value, but religion is a growth of people who believe there is God who created them, bitcoin is not a creator, satoshi created it. Appropriate to say, that crypto are religion and their God is satoshi.

No, of course, it can't be a considered as a religion.
I mean is there a usd or fiat religion? Not everything people believe in would happen to become a religion.

You are completely right. Religion is related to spirituality and faith in God while for bitcoin we could say that it is related to faith in money and wealth. Religion and Bitcoin are 2 completely different things and although we can believe in both it is not the same thing to believe in something spiritual or something material. By faith in religion, we gain spiritual values and through faith in btcoin we hope to get something material.

Exactly. The same way people are now worshiping Cannabis (see the Church of Cannabis on Google), the same way they can do so with Bitcoin. Of course, this may sound crazy but the fact is that people tend to worship different things in life. They're now even worshiping the "Spaghetti Monster" when "Spaghetti" is something edible (unlike Bitcoin). I believe that if people start worshiping Bitcoin, then they will certainly idolize Satoshi in many ways (once his identity is discovered, of course). Knowing that Bitcoin's creator is a mystery and a pure genious, should be more than enough for some people to follow it as a "god". Bitcoin unites us as a brotherhood, in the same way as any religion known today. We as followers of Satoshi and Bitcoin, believe that crypto is meant to be decentralized and censorship-resistant. Anything outside this scope, would be considered an aberration. Nonetheless, it depends on an individual's views whenever he/she considers Bitcoin as a religion or not. The most important thing is that, Bitcoin keeps us united as a community of crypto enthusiasts worldwide with the ideal of becoming "liberated" from the current corrupt financial system (which involves Fiat currency backed by governments and Banks worldwide). Hence, Satoshi's Vision will carry on for many generations. Just my opinion

still happens. just check apple fanboism, many people wrote about this already. after jobs elon musk is the new pope of capital for many. their followers don't need to recognize it as religious but they act the same way. They're now even worshiping the "Spaghetti Monster"
nah.. Spaghetti Monster is a satire. I believe that if people start worshiping Bitcoin, then they will certainly idolize Satoshi in many ways (once his identity is discovered, of course). they do well some people see more as a political position, some have a realistic relationship with crypto. but some are really crazy and worship the coin, the devs, they hate the other coins... please, don't cross the line, folks.

I understand that we have our own individual beliefs but for me it is a big no, Bitcoin is only a technology that created by human and it is very amazing creation considering that people can benefits on this but it can never ever considered as a religion. Religion is a spiritual relationship with human and god.

Bitcoin should not be considered a religion because the stock also has many investors, but it is still not considered a religion. Bitcoin is like a small community where the set is investing in choosing Bitcoin as the preferred investment option. The community will be where you find people who share ideas and support Bitcoin.

Maybe, we can refer it only as a means of payment but we should make it as our God. Actually, when Spaniards conquered the world, they have 3 goals or 3G's. And gold is differ from God. Imagine, even before they have already segregation of God in Gold. And I knew that it is just like the current scenario for bitcoin.

well, of course this will be very different. basically bitcoin has many functions but not for this. we believe in bitcoin, but that is in transaction and business matters. however, I don't think about this at all.

I agree, we don't worship Satoshi Nakamoto because he is also a human like us, he is not a prophet or God. He is the one who invented bitcoin but he is unworthy to be called a God and considered the community who supports bitcoin a religion.

I don't understand why anyone would want to consider bitcoin a religion except you want to feel cool about yourself, thinking less of those who don't own bitcoin and it won't be cool. Let's treat bitcoin as a digital asset which it is.

yes, it is true that Satoshi Nakamoto and religion are two different things, and it doesn,t mean if you believe in bitcoin then you become a follower of the Satoshi religion. In my opinion religion is something about relation between human and the creator, while the bitcoin found by Satoshi is a digital currency, if used properly it will certainly benefit.

I will never consider Bitcoin as a religion, and everyone here should do the same, Bitcoin is considered a technology breakthrough and very much attached to profit and material things, this was created by human or group of human and it's creation is a manifesto that God is great for giving us a mind that can do great wonders.

What is this thread all about? I don't really know what is the meaning of this. Bitcoin? Really so that's our what? Our deity? Considering of believing on it on a currency does not makes us on a cult or something that makes bitcoin maximalists on a new religion or sect. Bitcoin is a currency, a digital currency and most certainly not a religion.

Agree. There's only one God and there's no doubt about it. However, not all people think the same way. I've seen many Bitcoin maximalists trying to follow Satoshi's footsteps in every way. They went on to the extreme saying that if a cryptocurrency adopts SegWit or Lightning Network is is not the original Bitcoin at all. As a result, several contending cryptocurrencies have emerged such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. While this seems more like politics, than a religion itself, the fact that most people view Satoshi as a "god" classifies it as a religion (according to my point of view). Nonetheless, religion or not, Bitcoin surely is a movement that aims to transform finance for the better. It keeps us united every step of the way, regardless of our differences. As a community, we thrive to make the world a better place by embracing decentralization every step of the way. Just my opinion

That's a correct explanation, anything that benefits you doesn't mean that you should worship it because creations are not meant to be worshipped and your worship should be done solely to the one who created you and the entire multiverse. Bitcoin and its blockchain technology is really great and beneficial for most of us in this industry and Satoshi Nakamoto has really done an awesome technology that will soon be adopted by most of the people in the world in my own opinion.

To call bitcoin a religion is too loud a statement I believe. It seems to me that people who consider Satoshi to God, not so much. Everyone else thinks he is a genius, the Creator of such a great technology that can change the world. But I don't think they worship him.

I think it is a big deal for everyone who has been working in crypto currency. Making Bitcoin as a religion is a crazy things yes we know that worshipping on a particular things can consider a religious activity. For me I would never ever treated Bitcoin as our God nor Religion.
By the way I think is not the right place for this kind of topic It is more serious. however thanks for sharing your ideas and opinion.

In what way can it be considered as a religion? Bitcoin was created as an innovation to our rapid improving technology. Fiat can be replaced and use bitcoin. Same as telephone and smartphones now it brought more convenience because of the improved technology. Religion is forcing someone to believe something and worship it even if it's not true.

Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin with the intention of revolutionizing the way of payment through a well decentralized platform where users will take total charge over their own transactions without the interruption of any authoritative middle men. Bitcoin is seen by different people in different perspective depending on the what the user wish to do with it. Bitcoin is now seen as an asset, currency, investment etc.

These are insane people, and nothing can help them to be cured. Those, who work with Bitcoin take it as an asset or business. Bitcoin has nothing common with religion. Of course, some crypto fans that soo nothing but BTC exist, but these are just poor guys who need help.
I know. That's why I brought the subject for discussion since there are some people who seem to be quite obsessed with Bitcoin lately. They believe that Satoshi is some sort of "god", following his/her footsteps in every way. Cryptocurrencies that don't follow the original Bitcoin whitepaper, are considered to be an aberration or cancer to them. That's why, we've seen Roger Ver thinking that Bitcoin Cash is the original Bitcoin, and now Craig Wright has started doing the same with his Bitcoin SV project. Each forked version of Bitcoin has its followers and respective ideals. Of course, this could be seen more as politics than a religion itself. But, the mere reason that people are following someone who's identity is not known yet, makes it a religion in my opinion. As for me, I believe that Bitcoin is just new kind of money that will truly revolutionize our economy one way or another. Satoshi is just a human being, who created Bitcoin with many flaws (he's not perfect). Despite not being known yet, many people have joined together in order to make crypto and Blockchain a better place. Nonetheless, Bitcoin will survive as an asset and a store of value for many generations. Just my opinion
