By the way, West Indies are at the last spot in the  World Test Championship points table and they desperately needs a win but for that they need to uplift their performance to the highest level.

Last test was a slower one while the teams made fewer runs leading to a draw but today South Africa may seem to get all out in first day. Except Kyle Verreynne, all of the South African batsmen are out in low runs and Verreynne alone can't do much if his partner all gets out. Unfortunately, Bedingham was also trapped by the West Indies bowlers for 28 off 54 balls. Bedingham also failed completely to get through the long innings. No batsman of the South African team has been able to create a good position in the first innings of this Test match so far. Today is the day one of the test match between West Indies and South Africa. In the first innings, the batting of the South African team is so poor that no one can’t even believe it.

Now, they have only one weapon that could allow them to come back in the game as well which is their spinners, Keshav Maharaj is the last hope for South Africa. Sadly, in this series Shamsi is missing from the South African squad otherwise the chances for South Africa would be higher. However, the first innings performance was so bad but hopefully, if they perform well in the second innings then it may be better..

I don't expect a good performance from West Indies in Test format. There is no doubt that this team is very good in T20 format. The team's performance in ODI and Test formats has been erratic. It is their luck if they play well in Test matches.

A few days ago we saw England losing all three matches in the 3-match Test series. England won each match easily. South Africa could also have won the first match against the West Indies, had the match not been delayed due to rain. In the second match, I consider South Africa as the favourite. The chances of West Indies winning are very low.

This is why I have been advocating for a three tier division in test cricket. It can be implemented like this:

Division1: India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand
Division2: West Indies, Ireland, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland
Division3: Zimbabwe, Netherlands, Nepal, Namibia, USA, Canada

There will be a total of 18 teams. Teams should face other teams within their division 80% of the time, while 10% each should be spend on playing teams from other two divisions.

I agree with you. If we divide it into three tiers, we will probably not see one-sided matches anymore. Every match will be very competitive. Because the teams are almost equally strong. But the ICC will probably never do that. Because when relatively small teams play against big teams, the players of the smaller teams gain experience. Chances of performing better in the future also increase. Perhaps this is why the ICC will never take this decision.

However, now South Africa has collected 156 runs with the loss of 9 wickets. Dane Piedt remained unbeaten with 36 runs and Burger 27 runs. If South Africa can somehow manage to score 200 runs then I would say South Africa have a chance to win the match.

The pairing of Verreynne and Bedingham did not last long. South Africa lost 9 wickets before collecting 100 runs. Every batsman in the South African squad played very badly. Dortmund lost wickets so quickly because the top order players did not bat responsibly. Even then, the South African team managed to collect 160 runs till the end. The way South Africa batted, 160 runs is not a bad collection for them. Dane Piedt scored 38 runs for South Africa. Dane Piedt was unbeaten with 38 runs.

South Africa lost wickets very quickly due to Shamar Joseph's brilliant bowling. Shamar Joseph bowled 14 overs and conceded only 33 runs and took 5 wickets. Jayden Seales also picked up three wickets. If the South African bowlers bowl well, the match will become enjoyable.

As Temba Bavuma said before the match, he doesn’t have to play T20, he is happy with test matches and he is focusing on it. But today in the first innings, we have seen the real and the big giant dismissal here of Temba Bavuma, the captain of the South Africa team (both in ODI and test matches).

The nightmare for Temba Bavuma is Joseph from today and I am sure, in the next innings, when Temba Bavuma face him then he will be very nervous and play with a lot more concentration.

That's right that South Africa is more stronger than West Indies and they have proven it because we can see that South Africa made only 160 runs in the first inning and they destroyed by two bowlers first is Shamar Joseph who collected 5 wickets and other one is Jayden Seales who collected 3 wickets. Well the bowling of West Indies was impressive but when we they started their batting they were not able to hold the wickets. And they have lost 7 wickets at 97 runs. And the South African hero is Wiaan Mulder who has collected 4 wickets and I hope he will collect more and West Indies will not cross 120 runs. So there are many chances that Srilanka will win this test match easily.

Basically I was also thinking that South Africa may lose this match because they made only 160 runs in the first inning and I was thinking that in the first inning West Indies will give a 160 runs lead to South Africa team. But I was wrong because I forgot that there is West Indies on opposite sides and we can't expect a good performance from them. And they do so. They have made 97 runs and they have lost 7 wickets and I don't think so that West Indies will give any lead to South Africa team they will remain in trail. West Indies luckily drawn the last match just due to rain but this match is looking in the hand of South Africa.

Well, this won't be fair with the teams like Afghanistan who may argue that they are better than the Pakistan team. Similarly, the USA can argue that they are better than West Indies and Ireland. At times we may see very poor performances by South African and Pakistani teams that won't deserve them to be in the division 1.

Also if this is implemented, then there would be another race of moving up the division and ICC just can't only put countries in specific divisions, there needs to be a new point system which enables teams to move up and down the division, which means a new headache for ICC  .
A new Pandora's box will open if ICC tries to implement something like this.

At least in test format, Afghanistan is way behind Pakistan. And when was the last time that USA even played the longer format of the game? For moving up and down the division, there should be a promotion-relegation system. The existing system has failed completely. There are teams like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe who take their test status for granted, and they never even try to compete in a meaningful way when they play against the other teams. Only a system where the status is not permanent can being out a change to this.

It is a completely bowling friendly pitch. The batsmen are not able to make any advantage on this pitch. South Africa's batsmen batted very badly. However, after losing 9 wickets for 97 runs, the South African team was able to collect up to 160 runs. South Africa are not playing well, and now we are not seeing good batting from the West Indies batsmen either. At the end of the first day, West Indies managed to collect 97 runs after losing 7 wickets.

Like South Africa, West Indies also lost wickets very quickly. Jason Holder remains unbeaten with 33 runs. Besides, Carty got out after collecting 26 runs. And no batsman could bat better. Failed to score even 10 runs. Wiaan Mulder bowled just 6 overs and took four wickets. Burger also picked up two wickets. West Indies players are likely to lose all wickets before reaching 140 runs.

West Indies still trails by 63 runs, with just 3 wickets in hand. The 7th wicket partnership between Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie added a few valuable runs, but by the end of the day Motie was nabbed by Keshav Maharaj. And before that Nandre Burger and Wiaan Mulder comlpletely wrecked the West Indians to leave them at 56/6. The wicket of Motie was crucial. Had he survived for 4 more balls, then West Indies could have ended the day on a neutral note. But his wicket gave the momentum back to the Proteas.

An impressive display of bowling from both sides on day one of the 2nd test match between South Africa and West Indies. WI's fast bowlers did an excellent job restricting SA to 160 runs, but their batting also collapsed and they are 97/7 after the 1st day of play. Shamar Joseph took 5 wickets while Mulder took 4 wickets on day one. The match is beautifully set up for a result. At the moment, I think, the game is evenly balanced between the two teams. I will give South Africa some advantage because of their home condition and the fact that WI will have to bat in the 4th innings.

And in this match he has given West Indies a rare opportunity to go for another test win against a quality opponent. But now it is in doubt, as a result of the West Indian batting collapse. Anyway, second day is going to be crucial.

None of the Batsmen from the West indies team were able to make any respectable scores.  Only Jason Holder seems to show any resistance to the West Indies bowlers and is not out at 33 runs. West Indies got the advantage in this match but their batsmen just wasted this opportunity.
