It was Justin Langer who first spotted the issues with Maxwell. According to Langer, these issues were persisting for the last 12 months, and he was hesitant at firs about talking about it to him. Luckily, both Langer (coach) and his teammates have been supportive of Maxwell and hopefully he will be able to make a quick comeback to international cricket.

I have never heard about any international cricketer taking break from the game due to mental health issues, apart from that of Mark Vermeulen (Zimbabwe). You mean Maxwell. Don't think Langer faced any such issues  Smiley. Anyway, I am confident that Maxwell decided to take this drastic step right now in order to prepare himself for the upcoming T-20 World Cup next year which is a great call.

After Shakib's ban another news coming out that Glenn Maxwell known as "The big show" has taken a break from the Cricket due to his Mental problems. i have never seen him angry or sad in the cricket field. it tells us about the pressure in International game or "grass is always greener on the other side".

Aussie cricket star Glenn Maxwell takes break from game for mental health reasons

Maxwell is really good and energetic guy. Sad to seem him taking a break for indefinite period. He is an explosive batsman and Australia will surely need his services in the upcoming WC.

It was Justin Langer who first spotted the issues with Maxwell. According to Langer, these issues were persisting for the last 12 months, and he was hesitant at firs about talking about it to him. Luckily, both Langer (coach) and his teammates have been supportive of Langer and hopefully he will be able to make a quick comeback to international cricket.

It is good to take a break before it gets worse. You reminded me of Trott case, that was also such a shock. I thought that he might come back at one point since he was leaving too early but he didn't.

Maxwell has contributed so much to the team and it is a good think that the Australian board and officials are supportive of Maxwell's decision. The sooner the better and hopefully he will make in time before the WC happens

One thing that I have noticed is that a lot of teams are taking the T20 world cup very seriously this time. Previously it was being regarded as a minor tournament, not as important as the ODI world cup. But that situation has changed now. Pakistan got a new T20 captain last month, so that the team could get stabilized before the world cup. And India and England has included several new comers in their T20 squad to give them an opportunity before the tournament. And players such as Maxwell are taking precautions, so that their participation in the tournament is guaranteed.

Maxwell indeed took a brave call to step away from cricket, and focus on his well being hopefully he’ll be fit and back in time for the T20 World Cup. @Sithara007 never heard of Vermeulen case but this is an extreme case, and it only proves that Maxwell was right to step away before he did any damage to himself or his team mates.

One thing that I have noticed is that a lot of teams are taking the T20 world cup very seriously this time. There’s nothing surprising in this as players get more money and fame when they win the T20 World Cup, also star performers get lucrative IPL deals hence each and every player is keen to put a good show there.

There’s nothing surprising in this as players get more money and fame when they win the T20 World Cup, also star performers get lucrative IPL deals hence each and every player is keen to put a good show there.

I think that the prize money for the T20 world cup is much lower than they have for the 50-over edition. For the Cricket World Cup 2019, the prize money for the winners stood at $4,000,000. On the other hand, for the 2016 T20 World Cup, the winners received $1,600,000 (won by West Indies). I am not expecting much change for the 2020 edition, which means that the 1st prize will be less than half of what England received for winning the CWC 2019.

But it is true that those who perform well can expect lucrative deals from various T20 franchises. I am not just talking about the IPL and the BBL. Some of the other leagues (CPL, BPL, GT20, PSL, MSL.etc) are also offering heavy salaries to star players. And for players from Associate nations such as George Munsey and JJ Smit, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase their skills.

The best thing is that they identified the issue with Maxwell and they are treating him well before the T20 world cup so that he can make a return, the details of his mental issues are not public but he is going through hard times even though he was acting normal while he was having the microphone.

I have never heard about any international cricketer taking break from the game due to mental health issues, apart from that of Mark Vermeulen (Zimbabwe). In his case, it wasn't diagnosed until it became really worse. Vermeulen burnt down the Harare cricket academy in 2006, and was immediately suspended from the team. Two years before that, he was banned by the ECB.
Not heard about this incident but if he is going through depression or mental illness he should get the treatment and what is his situation now. Sad to hear that they need to wait for him to burn down something to identify his issues.

Vermeulen has always maintained that the mental issues he suffers from resulted from a blow to his head, that he received during one of the ODI matches against India (a ball from Irfan Pathan hit his head). After that he suffered from various psychiatric problems and epilepsy. Vermeulen tried hard to get back to the national team in 2013-14, but was unable to do so, due to poor form. He played one test match in 2014 against Bangladesh, but was dropped from the squad after that.

His career ended in 2015, when he was handed a life ban from the Zimbabwe Cricket, for a racist comment. The last time I heard about him was in 2016, when he was playing club cricket for the Newquay Cricket Club (Cornwall Cricket League).

That is just sad. Never heard of this player before, but this is an odd case. So many players got hit on the helmet and none of them suffered from such extreme problems which is why I don't think he is telling the full truth here.

His career ended in 2015, when he was handed a life ban from the Zimbabwe Cricket, for a racist comment. The last time I heard about him was in 2016, when he was playing club cricket for the Newquay Cricket Club (Cornwall Cricket League).
I guess his career ended the moment he completely lost it. This reminds me of Chris Benoit from the WWE who also suffered from mental health issues and killed himself and his family. This is why Maxwell is doing the right thing here.

People always have a misunderstanding about mental illness. One of my friends suffers from bipolar disorder, and at first he faced a lot of difficulty because his family members, relatives and friends could not fully understand his condition. Fortunately for him, after sometime his family members recognized that his actions are not voluntary and started sympathizing with him.

Cool. Wondered where you were since you usually are very active here. Are you planning some kind of tournament again anytime soon(Like the previous IPL and World Cup tournaments) since I enjoyed them a lot?.
Oh! yes.
I am not gonna miss IPL of-course. By the way, I am back with my usual nature. May be I will have few work to do in the next week end so possibly I will not come online for 2/3 days. But it's next week of course.

I see from tomorrow India vs Bangladesh series. I heard this news that their Shakib is ban or something? If this is true then I do not think Bangladesh will be able to give a fight against a team like India.

It is November already and in around five months the IPL13 will start. A lot of cricket is ongoing now and the cricketing calendar has got very crowded. It is difficult to track all these tournaments. After the IPL, in a few months the T20 World Cup will be starting. And immediately after that, we will be shifting to the 2019–20 Big Bash League in Australia.

The past few weeks were also pretty crowded, with the South African tour of India, Sri Lankan tour of Pakistan and Australia, T20 qualifiers and the ongoing ENG/NZ and AUS/SL series.

Cricketing calendar is always busy specially if you include the leagues matches like IPL or big bash etc. We have almost full year of cricket and there is hardly a big gap where we see no cricket being played.

A lot of the T20 leagues have sprung up all over the world and this is what made the cricketing calendar very congested. Almost every test playing nation (perhaps with the exception of Ireland and Sri Lanka) have started their own T20 leagues and even nations such as Nepal, Canada and Hong Kong have leagues ongoing in their territory. And don't forget about the T10 league (Abu Dhabi T10), which is about to start in less than two weeks from now.

Its very few days actually where there is no big leagues or any series happening in the calendar year if included that IPL or big bash. Though IPL is much bigger than Big bash. So for people who are fond of cricket would be occupied quite often and also those who want to bet will have something or other daily.

IPL itself stretches for 2 months every year, and during that time all the other international cricketing activity comes to a halt. And now they are planning to expand the IPL by increasing the number of teams from 8 to 10. The ICC is not going to be happy with it, as it leaves them with less duration to schedule the bilaterals and the global tournaments.

Shakib was banned for not informing the ICC about bookies approaching him, he was banned for technicality rather than participating in one and Bangladesh playing without their start player what chance do they have to win against India, if weather is not an issue i think about a complete domination from India  Wink.

All the countries are starting their own leagues and there are so much players needed for every tournament and it is good for cricket players who are flashy as they can make a living playing cricket around the globe and i think ICC will come up with some restrictions in the future to have some control so that International cricket will not get affected.

From what I have heard, the ICC was planning to come up with a rule limiting the participation of a player to a maximum of 2-3 T20 leagues per year. This would have been a big blow for some of the players, such as Sandeep Lamichhane, Rashid Khan and Ryan ten Doeschate. But as a result of the protests from players, they never implemented it.

Phew. I don't need to check online about any upcoming Cricket matches since I would only need to ask you. Good stuff. The year is almost over and my best Cricket memory from this year would be that insane and controversial World Cup ending.

Never knew about this. Its a good thing that the players protested since it would suck to not see players like Rashid Khan in SRH etc. ICC continues to come up with trash rules.

If the ICC does not restrict these players participating in these leagues then gradually we will see players preferring these leagues than playing for their national team and we will see a situation like football where it will be hard for them get their top players for only major international tournaments and the ICC must intervene and do something to preserve ODI as well, now they are trying their best to revive Test matches and there will be a time they will try to revive ODI in the future Cheesy.
