Man City and Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal for Julian Alvarez worth up to £81m (€95m).

Talks have been progressing well between the clubs over the last 24 hours. Atletico will pay £64m up front (€75m) with a further £17m of potential add-ons (€20m), which will be a record sale for City.

It represents a huge profit on the £14m the Premier League champions paid River Plate for the Argentina forward in January 2022.

Personal terms still have to be agreed, although this is not expected to be a problem.

Alvarez has made 103 appearances for City since arriving at the Etihad Stadium two and a half years ago, scoring 36 goals.

The Argentine international won two Premier League titles, as well as the FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup titles all in 2023.

During his time at City, he also won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, as well as the Copa America earlier this year.

This is what we have been waiting for. I really see a different Atletico this season. They are really shopping on a large scale in this transfer window. And I think this is the best player that Atletico Madrid can finally get. We have seen the qualities of Julian Alvarez. He is a player who actually deserves to be the main player at a club. In Man City he may not be able to take on that role because of Haaland. But at Atletico Madrid I think Julian Alvarez will immediately become the most important player there. Im more interested in Atletico Madrid. I really want them to be a formidable side next season so that La Liga will be more competitive. Madrid have made their signing and look stronger than before. Barcelona have not made any signings yet aside from getting a new Manager. I'm afraid that might not be enough for the upcoming season. They can't go into the season with a team full of academy players. I understand that they need academy players but they also need fresh signings like a RW and a DM.

Next season Real Madrid will still have a chance to win back-to-back champions by winning La Liga. Last season they didn't have a pure striker but they won the league and UCL. This season they have one of the best pure strikers in the world right now. There is no doubt about the quality of El Real's squad this season. But I think Atletico Madrid will be a very tough opponent. They now have Conor Gallagher and he is a box-to-box midfielder that is needed in Atletico's game tactics. Barcelona is still in financial crisis and their failure to recruit Dani Olmo and Nico Williams makes me skeptical and put them in third place as favorites to win.

Even though Real Madrid has a luxurious squad, that doesn't mean it will be easy for Real Madrid to win trophies. Because of course, other teams in LaLiga will also make great efforts to be able to provide tough resistance when they play against Real Madrid later.  Many people are against Julian Alvarez move to Atletico Madrid, saying the guy's impatient because he seems more playing time but doesn't get it at City thanks to Haaland but I don't see it that way. I just feel the guy is looking for where he can add value to not just the team but to himself.
 You'd wanna argue that he doesn't need to stress himself much being that he has achieved everything most young players will only dream of but then again, when you aren't the first choice striker in your country and play second fiddle at your club, it won't matter if you've achieved a lot, you'd still feel insufficient and would go for places that will value you but where I'm a bit worried is if he goes to Atletico Madrid, will his desires be met? being that there's Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix and the rest. Won't it be like going from the frying pan to the fire?

I see Atletico Madrid seriously preparing this season well by successfully bringing in several players, especially after losing Marota they immediately looked for a replacement. Last season Atletico Madrid actually also had a good squad as evidenced by their success in winning several times against Real Madrid, it's just that they were inconsistent which resulted in them finishing below Girona. Most of Barcelona's fans don't even like this transfer. Also, i think it's another wasteful transfer, and what the hell is going on with Deco. I'd prefer the club to sign Nico Williams instead of him. We have Fermin Lopez, and I'm so sorry for him. It seems like Fermin is gonna lose his spot after Olmo comes to the club. Also, I'm not a fan of this transfer too. Barcelona needs Nico, and not him.

Many culers are now blaming Deco for his incompetence. Almost all of Barcelona fans want Nico instead of Olmo, and this is because they have no good left winger. It surprised me to see if Barcelona still pushes to get Olmo instead of Nico.

I think the same way you do. If Alvarez plays as well as he did in Manchester City, he can put Atletico Madrid in the championship race. Of course, Morata showed his best performance last year, but I think Alvarez is a better quality striker and a younger striker. His youth and productivity will contribute a lot to Atletico Madrid.

I think Alvarez was over priced and paying that much for him is too much but it seems Athletico Madrid are desperately in needs of his services and it was why they had to pay that much even though they had to pay £65m upfront. I think the £64m should be enough to buy him.

He is a very talented young player that really deserves enough playing time so it is right for him to seek a move out elsewhere to get enough playing time. This will help propel his career more because he’s not a second choice player that he’s been used for at Manchester City. He is a great striker and for all the many times he has come in as substitute for Manchester City, he always change the game in their favour and brings victory to the team.
