Most San Franciscans are proud of the city; it's a beautiful chunk of real estate, nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of the planet.  I think there's just a sentiment that it's such a beautiful place it deserves the use of it's full name.  No shortcuts or laziness allowed when invoking it's name.  And don't get me wrong, it's more of a light-hearted, humorous debate than it is derisiveness.  Almost a way for locals to laugh at themselves for "taking themselves so seriously."

I haven't been there since, well, last century, but when I was there I did have a good time. My first girlfriend ever was from San Anselmo. I stayed in a crackhead part of the city with her for 1 night. We of course went to Haight/Ashbury, because thats the most important thing you should do if you were me. Went to the the Amoeba Records there. It was weird seeing the homeless hippie kids begging for money on the street, trying to save up to buy some ecstasy or whatever.

I did go to a rave in Oakland. The original venue was cancelled and in its place you were supposed to call a phone number (this was pre-cell phones mind you) to find out where the new venue was (in this case, Oakland). My girlfriend's parents nearly threw a fit when they found out we were - gasp - going to Oakland for a - double-gasp - RAVE. But we ended up having a good, clean time!

The place was still raided by cops a few hours in, but they didn't shut it down. Just checked a few peoples' pupils for dilation - not ours. Not that it mattered because it was an acid drum n bass party and they didn't even have E. So we were sober. LOL.

Anyway, probably the most enchanting part of it was driving over the Golden State Bridge... Now that's a trip. Don't even need drugs to enjoy it.

Lol, Marin County is such a bubble.  I went to school with the children of Rock&Roll superstars and Hollywood actors, and you wouldn't believe what a sheltered life it was considering the "progressive" reputation of the county.  Hell, I thought the Grateful Dead was a bluegrass band until I was 17.  The fact that Mickey Hart had built a rifle range on his property just outside of town only fed that misconception.

I'm confident the 9ers will win, but I have a feeling the Packers are going to make a closer game of it this time around.  They aren't likely to repeat the embarrassment of their last meeting. 

I picked the Titans to cover the spread in this weeks poll.  I don't think the Chiefs can repeat the trouncing they gave to the Texans.  Andy Reid is a great coach.  He knows how to maximize the talent of his players but a good strategy can compensate for pure talent.  I expect the Titans defense can keep it a one-score game.

Honestly never heard of that slight on san fransisco.  I used it more lazily as it's more shorthand to me.  What is the reason behind the slight and why residents dont like the shorthand?

San Francisco has had a few nicknames over the centuries but none that have really endeared themselves to the locals.  In fact "Frisco" is probably the oldest and yet, the one most despised by locals.  "San Fran" is not the worst one, but it just sounds funny.  I haven't lived in San Francisco proper since I was 7 years old, but I've spent most of my life within an hour's drive.  To us locals, it's "San Francisco" or simply "The City."  "SF" is a common abbreviation in writing, but hardly ever used in conversation.

I'm really hoping that my futures bets on the Chiefs and Packers come through for me. I am thinking about hedging on the Titans as they are the dark horse and I do think they can cause an upset so I have taken them early on to cover the spread. If Titans win, then I think 49ers win.

I was relieved when the Titans knocked out the Ravens, I really didn't want it to be a repeat of Super Bowl 47.  But now, I'm thinking that it's the Titans that scare me the most.  One of the things that sets the 49ers apart is their strategic planning, but Vrabel has shown in recent weeks the he can strategize with the best of them.  The titans have been pretty darn impressive, I can see them upsetting the Chiefs this weekend.

As far as San Fran(cisco) and who they should fear from the AFC its without a doubt the mahomes led KC.  If he didnt get hurt earlier KC wouldn't be seen by the end of the year as an underdog type team.  They beat teams pretty easily.  Their offense can explode (obviously) so no lead is safe as long as time is on the board.  Tennessee yes is the months darling but if you can get a solid lead on them they dont have that explosiveness kc has....but henry must be stopped first.

I have hedged my futures bets on the Chiefs and Packers by taking the Titans at the money line against the Chiefs later today as I think they are a huge chance at causing another upset and if they do then I think they will win the SB so I also put some money on them to win the SB at +750.

I'm super pumped for today, don't believe Titans and Green Bay can pull upsets but regardless i took both teams to cover their respective spreads in a small parlay. For the weekly poll i went with Packers +7.5 but with that scary pass rushing defense 49ers have i'm not sure it will stand.

I do not believe that either but out of the two I really think Tennessee has a better chance, SF looks too strong and I do not see any weakness in their team so I took them for the weekly pool.

Tennessee has a chance but they need to make that an ugly game, they cannot let KC and their receivers run circles around them or they will lose that game, they need to get physical with them and not let them run their routes, they need to short-circuit the timing of that offence, they will also need that Tannehill has a good game, so far they did not needed a good performance from him but KC will score 30+ points easily and even if Henry has a monster game he cannot do everything by himself.

Pretty exciting weekend!  Many local businesses are jumping on the 49ers' bandwagon.  It's starting to look a bit like "49ers Christmas" around here.

If the Titans can force the Chiefs to make mistakes, and exploit them for points, then they do have a chance.  The Chiefs are unstoppable when they're in the zone, so the Titans have to keep them struggling to get into the zone.  If there's an upset this weekend I think it'll be Titans.  Their run game is going to be a big factor, but that also requires the defense to keep the Chiefs from running away with the score.  I don't expect the Titans to win, but I picked them to cover.

These matches are getting harder each week as spreads are only down to a touchdown. Chiefs looked shaky last week but still manage to pull things back very quickly. I'm still riding the Titans' spread here since they've been on a good run. Home advantage doesnt feel like its a factor at this point I just hope they could keep up against the Chiefs' offense or at least hold them off within a single possession.

I don't expect the Titans to win, but I picked them to cover.  

I'm thinking the same thing Chiefs win but Titans get the spread.

I can't believe that last play by the Chiefs, how did Mahomes break them tackles, they looked weak from the Titans and now they have given up the lead and its also the first time that they have given up a TD this season with under 2 minutes to go all season.

Well I'll tell you one thing, Vegas knew something for the half time spread to be at 4 and as you know that's exactly what the spread was 4 points. That is why I have serious doubts that these games are for real when we see easy TD's being scored. Mahomes should never of scored that TD as them Titans tackles looked staged to me, you don't miss easy tackles like that period.

9ers look good so far.  I think 9ers should cover easy here.  Could see a blowout honestly.  That would make for the best superbowl anyway, green bay would get slaughter by kc.  The 9ers d versus KCs offense would be fun to watch.

This might be 49ers easiest game of the season so far, absolute cakewalk. Mostert with 160 rush yards and 3 TDs. 
Coleman's injury seems like a serious one though...

I don't think ill be watching the second half it's not even remotely competitive game at this point, divisional round was so much better/interesting, i expected more from the Titans too.

As a Niner's fan, I wholly understand your desires, and reject them for the sake of my blood pressure.  The Ravens scared me the most, they would have made a close game of it.  The Patriots would have made it a really fun game, too.  The Kansas City Chiefs don't scare me the same way.  Obviously they're an explosive team and no lead is safe when Mahomes is on the field.  But I'm confident the Niners can win it, early odds put them as 1.5 point favorites.

It is really interesting that some of the scariest teams during this post season were teams that preferred to run the ball but it is understandable, General Managers are so worried about defending the pass they are drafting lighter and faster linebackers and some teams have decided to take advantage of this by having big offensive linemen and run the ball, if SF can do this to KC then they will surely win the SB since the best defence against Mahomes is to have him sitting on the bench without getting any offensive rhythm.

However while Mahomes and KC are a huge threat now this is only because he is still playing under his rookie contract once KC needs to pay him what he is really worth they will need to get rid of some of their offensive weapons or they will have to deal with one of the worst defences on the league.

Honestly I if i was a 49ers fan I'd rather see baltimore over kansas city in the superbowl.  For some wierd reason everyone has kicked kc to the curb.  Dude had a knee blowout and is wrecking people right now.  Kansas city right now is the last team anyone wants to face because if they are up 14 to 21 points do you feel like that lead is safe?

Instead of hedging my bet on the Chiefs I should of just stuck with my first bet and that is for the Chiefs to win the SB so now I'm hoping they do as I had the Packers and Titans but now they are out. I could hedge my bet again with the 49ers as they are slight dogs however there isn't much value at +105 so I'll just let the Chiefs ride. I like prop bets so I might take a couple for the game.

I think the odds for Superbowl are set about right. Will be decided by a few details (penalties, TO, broken coverage) and whatever team is showing up more; hard to tell who that will be. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 49ers, allthough I could live with the Chiefs as well, since I would be happy for Andy Reid to finally get his well deserved ring.


Just read that their will be some tests of potential rule changes at the ProBowl and one of them gets me excited to some extent:

The scoring team, Team A, will have the following options:

1. Team A may elect to give Team B the ball at Team B's 25-yard line, beginning a new series of downs with a first-and-10.

2. Team A may elect to take the ball at its own 25-yard line for a fourth-and-15 play. If Team A is successful in making a first down, Team A will maintain possession and a new series of downs will continue as normal. If Team A is unsuccessful in making a first down, the result will be a turnover on downs and Team B will take possession at the dead-ball spot.

This could make for some nice drama With the rule changes, the percentage of successful onside kicks has dropped to <10% and I would think that a 4th&15 has higher chances of being converted succesfully. Field-position wise, after converting that 4th&15, you should start somewhere there, where a succesful onside kick would let you start too - or even better. What do you guys think about that ?
