I completely agree with that, anyone who sees what's happening without than the price volatility would see the real status of adoption in the market.
We will feel that the big adoption is already here if we can easily spend our crypto currencies like we are spending fiat for our daily needs.

For now, crypto particularly bitcoin is not yet widely use for daily needs, it's more widely use for online transactions such as gambling, buying things online, and the likes, but for business like restaurant, electric provider and communication, it's not widely accepted yet. Like Paypal balance is a digital currency and bitcoin is a crypto currency. Relate the two examples and you will see how they are different.
Mass adoption is actually growing. If you look back 6/7 years ago, people rarely talked about crypto currencies. But look at it now. It is always on the media spotlight. There are many angles to look from and it encompasses Bitcoin as a single cryptocurrency, altcoins, and probably the underlying technology they offers. In the case of Bitcoin, by comparing its current state to what it was years ago we can say to an extent that it has grown as more and more investors keeps going for it more than most altcoins; thus per say, it has been adopted.
In the case of altcoins, there have been ups and downs coupled with scams etc, thus making it impossible to figure out which altcoin is really doing well or not, or which altcoin that has really been adopted into real world uses; on this I can only say few altcoins have been adopted into existing systems but I can't count that as a success owing to the number of them existing.
Then on the other hand is the underlying technology, wherein owing to decentralization most platforms are now seeing the need to incorporate blockchain as it holds a vital stand in what the future offers.
So, I think to an extent, we are growing.

Facebook is not a threat to the market as they are launching a stable coin, meaning, it's not for investment like BTC where we are expecting its value to grow. Mass adoption is growing slowing, and just like they said, slow and steady wins the race, I think this is the nature of this space now. However, when you check many news channels, be it on Telegram or twitter etc, you will see traces of various platforms adopting blockchain or certian cryptocurrencies they think will work perfect for them. I agree the current crypto projects are growing due to the increasing line of the requirements for the mass adoption. Mass adoption of Bitcoin is so far growing as it has been recognized now by some popular companies and establishments. Mass adoption of it on my country is so far stuck, there were plenty of establishments accepting it when it reached ATH last 2017 but since its value went down so those who used it also went down. If I were to count who uses BTC as payment, it'll probably won't reach 10 in my area. BTC is stable nowadays so I guess it is still good. As for altcoins, no sign of adoption at all.

Based on my place, it is decreasing. Why? I haven't seen any establishment these days that accepts Bitcoin as their mode of payment. I used to see establishments that accept BTC as a payment mode years ago and I feel proud whenever I see one. Unfortunately, those stores who took the initiative and accept BTC as payment most probably gave up because of the lower rate of the cryptocurrencies nowadays.

I think price volatility is one of the main obstacles that prevent mass adoption of cryptocurrencies for those stores, not lower rate. So we need to come up with a more stable asset, and they could use Tether. the dollar seems like the most stable option right now, which does not live with the underlying principles this type of technology was founded upon. Seems like one of the only solutions would be for a cryptocurrency’s value to be proportional to an underlying asset, like Tether with USD.

However I think centralized entities cannot help stabilize decentralized things, maybe just ruin them. But adoption is the only thing that will make crypto less volatile, and governments can help by passing regulations against scammers and force exchanges to have solid teams and keep liquidity and so on, as major price fluctuation comes from major scams or major exchanges and whales.

Altcoins have not gone mainstream, not yet. They are still too young and have a long way to go. I think it is good for us. First we should make some profits and then enjoy commerce. In future, things will be different and as you said, adoption has already begun.
