This sounds great.If I had steady hands I would try this but since I'm happy with the results so far with my OC (850MHz is stable for my miner,anything above that and I get shares not being submitted-unstable connection to the pool,no HW errors,low rejects rate at 1GHz) so I'm not too worried about getting the best out of it (I'm trying to sell off my HD6950 but without an anti-static bag I can't sell it as I need to find someone selling one that can fit it in) Smiley

Would you mind posting some stats on your accepted pool hash rates at the different speeds you're testing please?

Could this be done via graphite pencil mod?

Possibly, though the pencil mod will decrease resistance, whereas we want the opposite (on the particular resistors I'm looking at). It might be possible to target a different resistor. What this mod is doing is setting vid1 = 1 (solder part) and vid0 = 1 (voltage=1 part). Vid0 and vid1 are connected to a 2-bit VID buck converter, which selects between four output lines (set0, set1, set2, set3). On my miners, the resistance of the resistors connected to these lines are 33, 30, 27, and 36 K (this is different than gridseed's PCB spec!). By default vid0 = 0 and vid1 = 0, so you get 33 K. I experimented with all four vid0/vid1 values and found that power usage (and thus core voltage) is proportional to resistance.

it has the spec for a 1 chip and 8 chip miner the 1 chip has the formulea and ref on it assuming sames applies to the gridseed 5 chip version.
seems there the potentail for the same mod as wiht the antminers same formuela as well. its just tracking it down on the board. it appears you could get up to 1.2v wiht the right resistor mod. and if the resistors are the same as the antminer there are fing tiny tiny, 603 series(??) smd resistors - dropped a few on the table never to be found again. ill wait though got my smd re work station arriving shortly Smiley

so it would appear that you are bridging the equiv of one of the jumpers but which one? from the example in the diagram im assuming its R2 appears R1 is the equiv r23 above jp7 10K. this is the opposite in the antminer though! although quick calcs show that if r1 and r2 both equal 10K then Vout =1.2v which seems to be a general safe standard for Vout any higher poses risks as the chips are rated fro 1.2v - read it somewhere maybe spec for antminer chips or something not sure, but better to be safe than sorry. So i assume if you trace your bridge to the resistor you could swap it out for a 10k resistor - providing r1 is 10k to start with. challage is finding the r1 and r2 equiv....

Andareed: did you measure the voltage output of the regulator to find out how much did this increase the voltage to? Just curious as to how much this mod changes the voltage.

Increases from 1.15v to 1.25v

You'll need a tiny bit of airflow, most people report the devices are unstable when they get hand warm. Replace the factory heat pads with quality ones or solder the fan to 5V from USB.

Excellent! I knew there had to be a further hardware mod 'jumper' to get stable operation at 1.25V without converting over to a different mining program. I'm using cpuminer and am quite satisfied with it since I have a very small farm anyway.
One thing that still bugs me though is having to reset the USB ports every 24+/- hours.
Anyway, I can make the jumper mods easily as I own a professional Weller soldering station with adjustable temp, very fine tip assortment, de-soldering etc. So no problems making the mods.

I wonder though, have either of you chaps tried seeing if any of the existing header's pins correspond to either of those two jumper points? Or is that header simply a serial port connection. I haven't studied the schematic yet so I realize this may be a stupid question.  Cheesy

Anyway, I'm very interested in this mod for my own miners. Having done years of laboratory level R&D in electronics, this stuff is a piece of cake!

Have the two jumpers stabilized the GS units well enough to overclock above 950 yet?
Man, if we can get these little buggers running at 500KH/s, that would be fantastic!
But, 400KH/s ain't nothin to laugh at either Wink

Hey sandor, i am wondering whats the diff doing the hardware mod vs the software mod you are coming out with?

both are able to be overclocked to 950 stable. Does the software update somehow increase voltage? Just curious to see if i should perform the hardware mod

If you run Windows, you can use the batch file and information I posted here to avoid unplugging/plugging the USB cable every 24 hours. It basically automates the task for you. I don't know if this can be done with *nix, I have no experience with that.
