Well I had full intentions of modding mine tonight until I opened it up and saw the size of the resistors. For reference I put a grain of rice by the resistors.  It's 7 resistors long.  I am going to have to look into a different tip on the soldering iron and maybe a jig or something.

Grain of rice for reference.

1050 MHz doesn't seem to be that stable, but at least it submits some shares.

So if you can solder the risks are very minimal considering you can unsolder the bridge if you need to.  I am running my test seed at the moment with BFGMiner, There should be no problems doing this mod with that right?

So I'm getting one of these babies in pretty soon, what's the best miner soft to use.

I've seen on crypto blog that with BFG you don't need to replace any driver just plug in and mine,

can you confirm that?

so many here seem to prefer cpuminer but being able to use cgwatcher seems appealing!

I'm going to wait to find out if either of the moder's mods goes pop pop fizz fizz...and if they do, it ain't gonna be no relief!
But it won't be a chunk of cash bitten out of my ass either!
I'm pretty sure the mods are safe but the most important thing about this mod is higher stable hash rates!
I'm gonna give it a couple weeks before I dive in and mod my own pods.

Did the mod with 2 solder bridges as shown above, freq 950 stable at 403-408 kh/s with two units out of the rest.  Will wait 24hrs for longer results but I am pretty happy with the mod.  Using OC Cpuminer, thanks again for the mod tip.

Yep that is the guide I used. You still need the basic normal drivers that are not included in windows.  I did it because I wanted to know the hash rate, adn CPUMiner was not showing that without switching drivers at that time I believe.

Yeah you are absolutely right. Pencil trick just makes things worse. Even with 850mhz and voltage=1 now I get a lot of HW errors. Time to break out the eraser!

Edit: Erased and back to normal. Zero HW errors @ 850mhz. Damn - now to find someone who can solder a bridge that tiny.

It was really annoying to do. What I did was get a gob onto the general bridge area, and then ran the solder tip (I have a fairly fine tip) along both sides of the bridge to collect any stray solder.

EDIT: Going to try using this to solder the bridge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151169919397

How did this paste work out for you?

If any of you soldering experts out there would like to make a couple of extra $ and you live in the NYC/NJ metro area, please PM me.  I'd be willing to pay for your time/expertise to hardware mod 1 or more of my miners.

Seems like these GC3355 have no problems taking 1.4v, which is .2v over the maximum rated voltage. Grin

so all these stats are pretty meaningless without screen shots of the hasrate provided on the pool. i can overclock my gridseed to 800khs and only a 12 hardware errors over a 17 hour period. but my pool stats my has rate is 240. accepted shares are quite high though and the rejects - pool end - is not too bad about 3% the accepted share rate. i even managed to clock mine to 1.2 Mhs the other day it was running stable over night no hardware erros but again pool hash rate was down to about 230. the % of rejects was quite low to about 2-3%. and thios is without and hardcore hardware mods. so ill also wait to see how things pan out. Plus i dont get how the 4 different resistor values from basically shorting 2 jumpers. surely if jumper 1 and 2 (vid0 vid1) is shorted there total reistance should be a result of vid1 shorted and vid0 shorted, depending where there are in serail or parrell, itd be vid1 + vid0 (serial ) or 1/ ( 1/vid1+ 1/vid0 ) ) - for parell. Or am i missing something. at the moment i dont want to stop my grid from mining to check the layout of the tracks. ill wait till my next one arrives.

I do believe that a resistor swap will help though but need to examine it more though.

Oh and i also believe the reissotrs are SMD series 0403 - whihc aint a problem as i have a smd work station, hot air rework and soldering iron.

EDIT. DUH - sorry back tracked a bit :

Could this be done via graphite pencil mod?

Possibly, though the pencil mod will decrease resistance, whereas we want the opposite (on the particular resistors I'm looking at). It might be possible to target a different resistor. What this mod is doing is setting vid1 = 1 (solder part) and vid0 = 1 (voltage=1 part). Vid0 and vid1 are connected to a 2-bit VID buck converter, which selects between four output lines (set0, set1, set2, set3). On my miners, the resistance of the resistors connected to these lines are 33, 30, 27, and 36 K (this is different than gridseed's PCB spec!). By default vid0 = 0 and vid1 = 0, so you get 33 K. I experimented with all four vid0/vid1 values and found that power usage (and thus core voltage) is proportional to resistance.

ding penny drops now i see it the combo. intresting enough on the 8 chip sycmatic i have SET3 36K, set2 33k, set1 30k , set0 27k (R66,R64,R63,R139 respectively) whihc are labeled as Not connceted expect set3.

Let me know if you want to ship them to Maryland.
I can do the solder bridges easily on all of them for you.
$25 each - including solder Wink

Hey, and what is your OC setting?
What are the resulting hash rates?
What value resistors did you use and where?
Tahks!

I performed the mod last night and i've ran it for 10 hours now...

It seems that YES it has no hardware errors running at a higher frequency, but the shares submitted noted on cgminer is significantly less then my other miners that are running on 850. They are running on the same instance/window if your wondering..

Anyone experiencing the same thing?

exactly  i get the same only i have no hardware mod - see my previous post. higher frequency generates a higher 5s hash rate and avg hash rate but an overall submitted to the pool hash rate is lower. NOTE say again i have no solder mod on mine - just improved cooling.

from the gridseed gc3355 datasheet :

CLUS_ADDR=0xE
REG ADDR
(8 bits)

0x0

[30]pll_BS
0 PLL Band Select
1: High band, 500MHz<=Fvco<=1GHz
0: Low band, 300MHz<=Fvco<=600MHz

the default is 0 so it might requirw a software mod to modify the reg addr to the higher band? or is it already enabled? thought of this as i recall the the PLL voltage being modifed somewhere.. stab in dark maybe.........

There are SMD jumpers available however I'm not sure how small jumper we would need. One test miner should be with me by thursday. I can't wait to test it out Smiley

series 0403.
according to the parts list i got hold of.

Thanks for that, so windows just finds the adequate drivers? or install the drivers that come with the Gridseed first?
